  1. Aredhel, That WIP is looking good *y* I'd like to build an islander land based MOC too. I actually like the not so clean white bricks on the pyramid :-) Looks more authentic. I'll keep this in mind when i start construction. I don't know if islanders would have walls. But then again i don't really know who the islanders are :-D Did you ever see islander type ppl with a walled village? I love all the skelies in the back of the pyramid. Gives it a dreary feel. Are these islanders cannibles?
  2. that's good sorry for the panic attack earlier, i got a little worried :) Mr. P
  3. Commodore? Warning!! Don't put your MOC's near water. 8-o Pirateships don't belong in water *n* You might lose some bricks or something. Or worse, Mini-figs. :'-( If you are going to put your MOC's in water, be very very very very very very very careful. Mr. P
  4. if you know what the color of the uniforms are of Swedish troops, then by all means make some blue swedes. that'd be interesting. after i build up my imperial forces, i'd like to make a dutch military force and a dutch vessel. though, i don't know what color they are at the moment :-P . if you make a moc for them, i'd check to see what color their ships are and see if you can make something of similar coloring.
  5. There's no "all of the above" option on the poll X-D Here's how i write lego: LEGO (when i'm screaming it) Lego (when i feel like being proper) lego (when i'm whispering it or being lazy) Here's how i use lego in plural: Lego's, lego's, LEGO's (when i want to type as little as possible) legos, Legos, LEGOs (when i type as little as possible and can't find the apostrophe) lego bricks (when i feel like being semi-proper) Lego bricks (when i'm really proper) lego pieces (when i don't know if i mean pieces of bricks or just bricks)
  6. Nope, they just gave me a rough estimate. It's an independant film, so i guess anything goes :-$ I don't really know, but it's definetely an independant film. I keep on seeing that it's won independant film awards and stuff. If you go to the homepage and click on Contact on the top right of the page it'll bring you here. And that's where i got the email address :)
  7. Here's a couple of pics of the whole vessel to better see the nicer sails. You probably are right Commodore. I just wanted something more realistic looking than the semi-auto missle launcher that came with it. You'll probably see different variations of this balista if i ever start making castle mocs again. Again, thanx for the compliment ppl X-D Oh yeah, Here's the Brickshelf folder: It won't be moderated right away cause i just added the pics on this post into the folder.
  8. Ok, so I'm browsing around in EB and i keep seeing pictures of this raft thing. I know i've seen the thread but i haven't felt compelled to say much about it cause ppl have already said what i would have. But i'll try to contribute. If the raft were to have some "rock" ammo for the catapults, the raft would be less sea worth and probably sink. In other words i'd loose the catapults. Also for the two "logs" it'd be cool to see the other side of the logs using 1/2 technic pins with studs on one side to mount a similar "log" pieces on the bottom side of the plate. I'd change the color of the plate from a metalic bley to a brown, tan, or black. As mentioned already, use the classic system pirate flag. I mean this in the nicest way possible Mr. Phes. :-$ Hope it'll be considered constructive criticism. Happy MOCing, Phred
  9. bonaparte, I'm very suprised that you've chosen this type of flag for your vessel. :-D What type of armament is this ship going to have? Is it going to be more like the L'Unite or the HMS Suprise or your own variation? I had gotten that information from The World of Jack Aubrey: Twelve-Pounders, Frigates, Cutlasses, and Insignia of His Majesty's Royal Navy by David Miller The book was mentioned at the Great Reference Books Thread. Edit: Kool Aid? How are they drinking your kool aid :S
  10. I'd emailed the makers of this movie about when they're going to have the movie release on DVD. Their reply was that the current plans is to have it available on DVD between June and Aug of this year. Though, they did mention that there'll be a limited supply availible |-/
  11. I agree about the decorated sails, I don't recall seeing many (if any) decorated sails on warships during that period. Is it going to be a sister ship to the HMS Suprise (originally a french vessel) in Master and Commander?
  12. If your sail material is thin enough, may I suggest that you crimp the sail between two 1X(whatever) plates for mounting the sails onto the ship, rather than having holes in your sails. My Junk has paper sails with this method and the Xebec has fabric sails. This ship looks really good so far. The only thing i don't like is that the red stripe is too high and may need to be lowered one brick or have the red stripe one plate lower in the center or something. In the center portion of the ship, the black on top of the stripe is only 1 brick high. Otherwise good job *y* I love the custom figs! *y* Very high quality 8-o They almost like they were made by TLC. The BS folder link to the L'Orient (i didn't see a link for it so i made one X-D ):
  13. I love the War Hammer idea *y* . I even made my own version ;-) The battering ram with a wolf head looks good :-) Are these viking kings going to pillage the Jelly Bean kingdom?
  14. L2K, The emporor's ship just looked more japanese than chinese, but only vaguely. In general, it seemed the japanese had only one or two masts on their vessels, while the chinese usually had at least 3. So i put the japanese off the the Chinese built junk and put the 2 chinese and 4 "chinese looking" fellows into the Junk.
  15. Thanx for the compliments! Hmm... ...i never thought of changing it. *goes to his special place and ponders*
  16. Sir Phes, You look good as a knight :-D . Also, you can't change your face *n* . We all love the "Phes" face. What about your face don't you like? BTW where did you get that MF head? Thanx, Phred
  17. Note: Reason I called it Viking MOCs is so that I can post all my Viking MOCs on this thread. Due to my limited supply of Vikings and my LOVE for Pirates *wub* , all my Viking MOCs won't be very big or worth too much discussion. Here's my first Viking MOC (sort of) *wacko* . Actually it's more of a modified Viking Longboat. I added a steering oar so that this vessel can actually turn :-D . It's on the Starboad side (or originally "Steer-board"). I also changed the way the sail was mounted onto the mast, so that it isn't bowed inward in the center of the sail. As seen a little by the next picture below, the sail looks a lot better now. *y* My favorite modification is the ballista that i made. It's a lot more realistic than the semi-auto wierd thing TLC put on it :-X . The ballista does actually shoot, though it only shoots 2 inches away (or 5 cm) X-D . Enjoy! Phred
  18. Nice idea Z *y* I just bought a few of them bricks to experiment with on PaB when i ordered from TLC. I like the design of the stern, looks very ornate and unique. It seems a little high though compared the the rest of the deck on the sides. May want to consider having taller walls at the stern and possibly a "little" deck one level higher. What's the 1x6 1 brick high arch for? Do you plan on making a bell? Phred
  19. No Prob Mr. Phes, Makes a lot more sense the way you changed it. *y* Thanx, Phred
  20. Yeah, I'm kind of curious about the same thing. I think this is how it goes: On the right of the second floor of the interior, there is where a platform that matches up with the top of the stairs on the other half (see below). It's like if you're going up the stairs and once you hit the wall, turn left and you'd reach the 2nd floor on the first picture on this post. I'm pretty sure that's how it goes. Phred
  21. Note to Mr. Phes and Mr. Tiber: If you feel this thread should be in the community thread, that
  22. If you're making a serious MOC and you'd like to use the lego string with a stud on each end. Check out Aaron Morse's Heavy Frigate. It's a good example of how extensively a person could use these strings. Here's his BS folder: Where this ship is discussed @ EB: Also, if you want to go a cheaper route X-D . My brother made a Xebec and used $2-$3 Wal-Mart string X-D . I think it looks pretty good, though this vessel didn't require the need for a rope type ladder going up the masts. Here's the BS folder: Where this ship is discussed @ EB: There are other examples of each type of string use on MOC ships; it's just that these were the first to come to mind :) . Enjoy, Phred
  23. It's a cute little fort. I like the way the balcony for the cannon is built, looks very authentic. I think there are a lot of details and functionality for such a small fort. *y* I probably wouldn't have had such a large stair case in the interior. It uses up a lot of room. Not a big deal though.
  24. Hmm. I kind of remember him. I think held him prisoner for ransom or something... ...I think i remember him now. Doesn't he have a black pipe? Also with the above image, is sort of a close up of the the gears that wind up the two anchors. The plate they're mounted on slides back and forth and can be move with the dark gray technic piece with a white light saber blade. For each gear, when they're not in use, has a small axel placed so the it stops the unused gear from spinning. This is a close up of the gear wheel that moves by the capstan above, which connects to the one of the two sliding gear wheels shown previously. That torso comes with Jabba's sail Barge. The coloring on it is very unique and kewl. X-D That's not including the 16 carronades that are on order from PaB. Also the front portion of he ship has the gun-ports 5 studs apart for the bigger cannons. The rest of the gun ports are 4 studs apart, so that also limited the amount of cannons on the gun deck. I'd be able to fit 70 cannons on there easily, but i've also got a shortage of cannons and bricks for MOC cannons. X-D Thanx for the compliment bonaparte :) . On pictures i've generally seen on ships, there is only one capstan on smaller ships (i.e. frigates). There's one picture where a ship of the line has only one capstan, and in the description of the ship, it mentions that the capstan was used for heavy lifting, and weighing anchors. So i guessed that there is probably a gear system for each anchor and the crane with one capstan. The way this ship is built, I couldn't add in the gearing for the crane. Edit: Some updated deeplinks of the stern. stern starboard port 1 starboard port 2 .
  25. Right now, Viking sets are the main sets i'm buying, with some SW and some aqua raiders. I like how how much rown and tan comes with the viking sets. By now i have WAY more rown than brown. I'm thinking, i may retire my brown bricks and use exclusively rown. Though if there were to ever be System Pirates again, those would be the main sets i'd get :'-) . mum? isn't that a british word. i don't think i've ever heard it said that way unless the person is the first or second generation in the US from europe. Though i am close to yooper country, and we have our own dialect.
