  1. I don't really understand what you are complaining about here. As far as I've understood you right, for a long time already, you've wanted to see Friends-style sets with minifigs. Now you've got them, under the Junior label. Girly sets for girls, but with minifigs, not minidolls. Right?
  2. Supported! These are absolutely fantastic. It must have been very hard to create such detailed models in minifig scale. I would definitely get two sets and create a game arcade on the second floor of one of my modulars. I would suggest you make instructions for these and start selling them.
  3. Wonderful work! I feel envious. I'm thinking about maybe getting two more sets and copying your façade, this is so much better than my own 16-wide version! I like the way you've placed the letters of the toy store and the versatility of the façade. Also the idea of an old fashioned store+warehouse+workshop is great!
  4. Nicely done and great interiors! I especially like the way you've utiliset the space below the stairs for a kitchen cupboard in the Café building. These could well be TLG modulars!
  5. The Juniors supermarket is a really nice surprise – who would have guessed that the Juniors line will provide us with something that valuable? I got two suitcases only last weekend and I'm going to modularize the building into a 32x32 supermarket, probably borrowing some features from the original and adding details. The new torsos look great, too. Definitely something to recommend to all city fans!
  6. I like this very much – very impressive! I especially like the way you make it look like two different buildings. And the way you preserved the original architecture is very impressive, too!
  7. Thanks for your kind comments, everyone! LT, unfortunately I don't have the MS or GG. But I think this will sit nicely next to DO or PS, too. Kristel and Mdgas, point taken! When I get that PAB order, I'll modify the façade too, and place some flowers at least on the third floor. The second floor is trickier because I intend to place a sign (BAGS) above the awning.
  8. Okay, so this is what I started with. One set was well enough for the 2-storey version, but I ended up getting an extra set and building a third floor. It's still a WIP, though. The window decorations are not completed; I'm waiting for a PAB order and after that, I still need some tan cheeses. The ground floor storefront is empty (or nearly empty, I've temporarily put the 31036 minibuilds there). It will ultimately be a bags & accesories store. The chewing gum machine will remain, though. From the side, you can see that the sand green facade is sort of a charade, all the other walls are white on the ground floor as well. I'm quite satisfied with the backside. The ground floor is a little plain since I want to use the back wall of the store for shelves. The second floow interior is borrowed from Olivia's house 3315. There's room for the huge TV, the sofa and some lamps on the wall. The small stand by the stairs is a 31036 original design. Sadly no room for a refigerator in the open kitchen. The bedroom is on the third floor. All the furniture is from Olivia's house 3315 except for the lamp, which is from 3136, where it featured as a (very small) street lamp. The two grey flat 1x1 round tiles will be removed after I receive one more tan grille 1x2.
  9. Well, that surely would be something! I have a bunch of 1x2s from PAB walls already, but at least for the facade those masonry bricks would be great – provided that the price is bearable. Thanks for the tip! I know too well what you are talking about... I have a corner modular, where I combine the Friends corner bakery and Olivia's house, and it's been a WIP since summer 2013...
  10. I've now come this far in py procet. My initial aim was to buy four sets, combine two of them to a 64-wide and use the extra two to build one extra floor. But I decided that two brick-brick buildings would look boring and decided to use dark red instead. The next stage will be to use the existing extra brick-brick pieces to build an additional floor above the DO and to use more dark red pieces to build a similar addition on the opposite side, making the whole building three floors high. I'm also going to have to do some bricklinking for the windows and for dark red plates. As for the blue part, I will have to get rid of the side walls now facing one another, refurbish the barbershop and place the Al's sign in the middle of the blue building. Probably not going to finish this anytime soon.
  11. Thanks! I think this will have to wait for a while. I'm going to get two DO's next week and that should keep me busy for a while. A hotel might a good idea, thanks for the tip!
  12. No problem, here it is! This is probably not the final design – when I start building, I will make alterations. There's also no interior yet.
  13. Acutally, I have. It's only in LDD form right now, but I have two Heartlake Malls waiting... My idea is to use two 16x32 and one 32x32 baseplates, creating a building with a 24x24 façade, inspired by the sporting goods store. Three stores and a staircase to the upper floor. No idea what to place up there, though. In response to your question about baseplates: yes, 8x16 is the smallest baseplate I remember seeing.
  14. This is an absolutely wonderful idea! I would never have thought of anything like this.
  15. Thanks! And yes, it's 48 wide, standing on two 32x32 baseplates. If I made my calculations right, yours is 56-wide. It looks even grander and is quite well-balanced. A great mod! I especially like the extra height of the clock tower. Makes it fit in better with the rest of the enlarged building.
  16. I dare not call this XXL, having seen what others have created. But nevertheless, this is my standalone version of the Town Hall. The TH was actually my very first modular and a good choice at the time – it was the grandest building of them all. The play features are virtually zero, which doesn't bother me at all. Later on, when I got more modular buildings, I started to feel that the Town Hall doesn't belong in the same row of buildings as all the rest. It needs to stand alone, akin to the Hill Valley courthouse that the Town Hall reminds me so much of. And with a square in front. However, I didn't get to buying a second set since there was always something more interesting, something more urgent etc. Finally, with all the rumours of the TH being retired, I decided to get the second set. So here's the façade. Looks like the CMF judge has found his way to the second floor balcony. And the flower vendor has parked his cart right outside – I wonder why. Let's see if there's something fishy going on. I wanted to add some windows to the side walls, since they aren't wall-to-wall with other buildings anymore. The window desing is simply copied from the back of the building. I left a sidewalk on these sides as well, together with some flower beds. I run out of pink flowers, that's why there's a white one in the middle of all the pink ones. There's also a double door leading straight to the great hall. The back is true to the original, with extra windows added. Looks like there's a second elevator shaft as well, since there are two sets of these small double doors. But the actual back door has been removed in favor of the double doors on the side of the building. And the (boring) interior, starting with the third floor. Basically just the original interior with minor additions. And only one elevator! The mayor's office has been extended and carpet is a little bigger. There's also a sitting area in the lobby, as well as a second desk for the clerks. Still only one elevator. The ground floor. With two elevators! My little and stupid joke... This second elevator is a fake, and is obviously used for something seedy – like smuggling. So this is where the flower vendor places all those hidden barrels of cookies and candy whenever the mayor feels like he has the munchies. The great hall is being prepared for a wedding sermony and reception, and they've ordered the largest wedding cake ever – straight from Heart Lake City (news van). Hope you like it! And don't be too upset about the cookie smuggling thing – I just had to horse around a little.
  17. Thanks Bjorkan! I worked a really long time on this MOC so it's great to see that my work is appreciated.
  18. When building the flower cart, with its built-in cookie barrel and classical style minifig face, I came to think that perhaps Jamie originally intended the cart to be a part of the actual set. And then, for reasons of cost, they decided to leave the cart out and finally made it a polybag instead. Has this idea crossed anyone else's mind?
  19. Thanks Swissbrick! The height seems quite okay now with one floor added. Now only the width of the blue building is disturbing me... By doubling the width (building a mirror-image DO) this problem will go away, too. Requires four sets. Oh my!
  20. Thanks for the pics! Would you be able to take a pic or two next to other modulars for comparison?
  21. Very nice facade, reminds me of Spanish colonial style.
  22. It's not the height as such that is the problem. It's the scale. Place DO next to the PS and realise that a terraced house, a one-family apartment, is bigger than an inner-city highrise. It just doesn't work out. The scale of the DO doesn't fit. The FB, GE and PS are all more or less comparable scalewise (well, the FB is a little off, too) and I agree the TH needs some expansion but it works out next to the rest if need be. The DO, however, looks horribly out of place next to the FB/GE/PS. It will probably fit after some extensions, though. I will buy the DO and most likely I will expand it, too. But if the series continues to go in this direction, which I believe it will, TLG is going to lose a part of the AFOL clientele. However, it might still be a good move from their perspective since these 2nd generation modulars will entice lots of younger fans, probably more than they will put off AFOLs.
  23. Thanks for the pics with the DO next to other modulars. The DO is definitely out of scale, even more so than I thought it would be. I think it calls for an expansion both sideways and up. Four sets would be enough to add another floor and make it 48 wide, thus having two 16-wide "detective offices" and a 32-wide "barber". A very expensive project. I wonder if TLG ends up losing more AFOLs than they had estimated, even if they are getting lots of KFOL customers for this set.
  24. Good for you. Now just wait for the first order to arrive and then place a new order – and get that second flower cart!
  25. They will likely combine those orders into one. What you should do is place one order now, then wait for it to ship and place another order then. That way you'll secure two promos. Has worked for me several times.
