What do you think of the LDD forum?
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I agree. There should be some generic topic well placed and able to "attract" all those little topic opened for trivial and recurrent questions. The LDD index topic need a strong revision too. Unfortunately this would require much time to invest on it, so for me it is impossible in this period. I hope this work could be made in the next future. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?

Great entry! But I see you already made this model in the past, here. So that's an update: you should modify the original post and use the post above to announce the update.

Piece Organization
Calabar replied to Lalror's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
AndyC answer well about that. I add: - at every palette update you have to look for new pieces an move that, or you'll find similar pieces in different categories. - the system that manage the palette have to be reimagined. I mean the opposite! A user with a personalized palette will be productive only working on his/her LDD. I think a better organization of the palette would be the best solution. We need more smaller groups: for example the group that contains the minifig parts is too big and confused. We need a group with minifig parts (torso, legs, hair, ...), one with minifig wears (hats, armors, cloths, ...), one with minifig hand accessories (or two, one for weapons, one for other objects), and so on... Some predefined filter inside each group could be useful too: you open a group and few buttons appears, so tou can click on them to filter objects. For example, the weapon group can have "arcs", "melee", "gunshot weampons", "sci-fi weapons", etc... -
Minifig torso with all decorations!
Calabar replied to hrontos's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Did you try to use search function of your windows explorer? Note that the file is quite big (almost 400 MB), so it should be not too difficult to find. According to the "how to enable LDD Extended Mode" guide, the user directory of LDD on MacOS should be: "/User/Library/Application Support/LEGO Company/LEGO Digital Designer/" You should find the file there. -

You mean you can't find the db.lif file? -

3D models and decorations are inside the db.lif file in the user directory. Decorations are 128x128 PNG files. -
Piece Organization
Calabar replied to Lalror's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I think TLG don't want a user can personalize the palette because want that LDD is immediately ready and easy to use, and avoid situations such as: - necessity of modify the palette after every palette update - difficulty to work on the LDD installation if not in your computer I think that a better disposition of the bricks would be the best solution. But probably the problem is that they dispose the pieces looking at the best disposition for the DBM palette, not the whole palette. -
As I told you in a private message, the rails are the problem: the traverse plates have not anti-studs on the bottom, so it is impossible to connect the baseplates. Did you have a look at my modified model?

How to make custom LDD stuff?
Calabar replied to pauldk's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Look at this recent topic. It's the same request, but regarding decorations only. The answer is valid for both decorators and 3D models. -
Oh, ok! That means I can't index these sets, because every set here have to be built using original instructions. What a pity... I liked your work very much!

Hi! You should provide a direct link to the file. The brickshelf gallery is not accessible yet, and could stay inaccessible for days! Direct links are immediately accessible, instead. And.. why not provide the whole set? O_o A set with half of the bricks can not even be considered "incomplete"...

! HELP ! What angle is it?
Calabar replied to pauldk's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I did something similar (but shorter... I only wanted to verify hundredth of degree). The strange thing is that sometimes there is no movement even with angles supported by the gui. -
! HELP ! What angle is it?
Calabar replied to pauldk's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Ooops, I mean half tenth degree, not half degree! Anyway... I made some other test. Note that I'm speaking about changing angle from LDD GUI, internal data could provide more precision. I have obtained some weird results. With the same model, in different tests I noticed that sometimes the model changed with 1/100 degree variation, other times don't change with 1/10 degree variation. Apparently the tests I made some time ago (working on a model) embrace some situations only, but not all. -

LDD shows two digit decimals, but as I told in a previous post... -
! HELP ! What angle is it?
Calabar replied to pauldk's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I forgot the model was in the index. And note that the index was written by me! Anyway, as LDD is not perfect, every model can have differences and the touch of its builder. If you have already done the model, why don't add your version to the index? There are already many duplicate models there, it is not a problem. -
New details for LDD
Calabar replied to YesMan's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Ah, ok, the decorations. That's not possible without hacking the software. Anyway, look here for some "hidden" decorations, and here for use decorations with all bricks that supports that. -

What do you mean, exactly, with "details"? -

If you want, you can share your model in the Official Lego Set made with LDD topic. The rules for porting are in the first post of the thread. -
! HELP ! What angle is it?
Calabar replied to pauldk's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I prefer to do it for you. It's faster than an explanation! .lxf file. Note that LDD works with half angles. Smaller decimals are rounded (even if the textbox shows different values). -

Eurobricks' 3rd LDD RCB
Calabar replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That's what I thought when I designed it. In this way, I postpone the decision to the next builders! And it seems they decided to leave my garage really airy on all its sides!
