Thanks for the set! I noted the low quality screenshot, so if you want I can give you some suggestion to improve it. Contact me in case! About the two points quoted, I remember the lightning can be bi-coloured. Did you try with the paint tool? About the chain, I'll try to fix it later! EDIT: Here is the file after my tests. It contains some fixes, organization in groups and a screenshot with better quality (unfortunately I can't enable advanced graphics, but the result is good enough, I think).

Most wanted bricks for next LDD update

It appears that the news on the ldraw site is dated "April 1st" too... mmm... -
Most wanted bricks for next LDD update
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
This piece appears again in a new set (one of the Monster Fighters sets, if I remember correctly), so I think we will see it in LDD soon. -
Hi Mario, Thanks for this new release. A little question about the software: can I create my part list inserting the set I have, and then select only a part of these sets to use the "Can Build?" function to build a custom set, whose brick list has been imported from a lxf or ldr file?

Probably you are right! Or perhaps there is even an old irregular post too! Anyway it seems the same set! Are you sure that 10021 is not a simple "reprint" of the original set? Is this situation we simply add the new number to the previous post.

LDD hardware support
Calabar replied to Bojan Pavsic's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
A fast and not exaustive answer. - 1800€ seems to me too much at a first glance. But I need to check every piece before say a final word. EDIT: I forgot to count the 3 monitors... - as you have choose the mainstream Intel platform, surely it would be better to wait the new Ivy Bridge cpus. - HD7850 is a very good mid-range card, but it is a bit overpriced now. Probably it should be better to wait some weeks, the release of the new Nvidia cards hopefully will lower the price of the new AMD cards. Unfortunately at the moment Nvidia don't offer a new card in that range. About GpGPU, the new nvidia are not as good as the old Fermi (5xx), while the new AMD generation cards are very good for that. - The power supply is one of the most important part (the "heart") of your computer, choose it with care. - About SSD, remember that the intel 520 has a sandforce controller (but with a custom firmware). It is good and very fast, but at this round I think Marvell controller is better. You could think even to take the SSD later when the 4th generation will come out. -

I see we agreed for many things, zinfinion, perhaps except the choice of the video card brand. About anti-aliasing, my experience is that it is not possible to enable it with advanced graphics in LDD, but I tried with MSAA only. About FXAA, it is an Nvidia technology, but it is supported bu AMD cards too, but it was not possible to force it by drivers (I don't know if recent drivers allows that now). AMD has a similar technology, MLAA, but it is slower. Now nvidia has introduced TXAA that seems very interesting, but I'd like to see real result before judging it. @Bojan Obviously if you want some suggestion about the rest of the computer, you can ask here! -

You're welcome. About the SSD, I suggest you to buy it if your budget allows you the purchase. Advantages are so huge that when you use a PC with an SSD, come back to another PC is really hard! My favourite choice is Crucial M4 with Marvell controller (or Samsung 830... pretty the same disk!) for its stability. Anyway the next generation is not too far and I think there will be some very interesting solutions in the early summer. -

1) I think a openGL professional card will not be helpful with LDD, even considering that LDD uses OpenGL. That's for two reasons: at first LDD is a consumer product, and it seems strange to me it would use special OpenGL extrensions. Also LDD is not an important 3D software, so it don't receive driver optimization for this kind of video card. Probably you will obtain best performances using a consumer video card of the same price, because it has a much powerful GPU. 2) I think it is a personal feeling. Surely the loss of "continuity" could be a little uncomfortable, and probably a single 2560x display could be better in some situations. Otherwise you could adopt an asymmetrical solution using an hight resolution main monitor and one or two standard secondary monitors on the side. 3) There is not comparison between a WD VelociRaptor and a good SSD. SSD is much better. Velociraptor could be interesting in two situations: - you need more space, and mechanic disks offers a better $/GB ratio: a 600GB velociraptor costs a little more than a 128GB new generation SSD. - you make massive write on the disk, and those writing are more sequential than random. If you need a very fast machine, you could buy an SSD for the system and a velociraptor for archive files you are working on. -

Calabar replied to SearchFunction's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi SearchFunction, welcome in the LDD forum. Compliments for your good work and thanks for sharing it. A little suggestion: It seems that the image hosting you used is very slow and the file hosting you used for sharing the lxf file makes download the file very uncomfortable. So, what do you think to use brickshelf for both images and lxf files? Brickshelf is a good free alternative and it allows to hotlink the files you upload there. -
Very strange, I was almost sure that the Constellation was already been built and indexed. Perhaps it was an irregular entry.

LDD 4.2.5 is out
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Probably it will be used in the sets that will be released this year. It will be surely added to Bricklink database soon. -
It seems there is an hole in the main windscreen! Did you try the zinfinion's technique to overlap 3-4 times the same screenshot to make transparencies more intense?

Uploading and Linking to LXF Files
Calabar replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I didn't thought the problem could be not shown folder's name! Simply sometimes could happen I have to rename a folder for better organization, and it would be very uncomfortable if that would cause the change of the links. Anyway, if the problem is related to the top folder only, it should not be a problem in the great part of the situations. Another service I've seen is good is box. Has someone the time to test it? -
Uploading and Linking to LXF Files
Calabar replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Dropbox seems very good, not only direct links but gallery too. Bot hash and filenames in the url has have interesting properties. The advantage of the filename is that you can replace the file (with a file with the same name) without changing the link, and that's very useful to avoid to edit all the posts in the forum when you update a file. The advantage of the ash is that you can change the name maintaining the same url. In DropBox it seems you can rename folders and update file without changing the link, and that seems very good. Can you test if it is really possible? Another thing: I was looking for a portable version of DropBox software, but it seems the development has been abandoned. Do you know about a working portable version? -
How can I animate Trains in LDD 4.2?
Calabar replied to Squ1DDoS's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I modified the title of the topic with one fitting the content of the topic. About SR3D, probably it requires a bit more effort to learn how it works, but there is a short guide you can download from the website for that. If you want animations, SR3D at the moment is the only useful choice (now with some limitations compared with its commercial version). -
@vynsane About upgrading sets in the official set topic made by other users, you should ask to the original builder if he want to do the work. If it is not possible to contact him or he says he don't think to make the upgrade, you can proceed, linking the original post as reference. Otherwise you can renounce or make the set from the scratch as a duplicate.

If I can give my opinion of indexer, I think in the present situation the best way is to simply replace the images: the order will be given by the index, and it is not strictly necessary inside the topic.

To avoid misunderstandings, my comments about 6385 was about the set itself and not about your model, except for that regarding the good work with baseplate. About the motorbike, if you want you could ask help to other users, that often are very available to help other builders to fix their sets. About the quality of the screenshot, perhaps you don't understand what I mean... I'll continue in private.

Good work replacing baseplate, I see you used the same technique I used for the set 6382. This station is very similar to the 6385, a sort of "enriched version". I like it very much, but I'm not totally convinced about the choice of blue for the casings. Note that without replacing the motorbike with a custom solution the set will be indexed as incomplete! Another thing. I see the quality of your screenshot is not very good, if you want I can give you some suggestion to obtain better ones.

The images was originally inserted in the post, but converted that in text links because that was oversized! (I forgot to "show" the edit reason, now fixed)
