LDD on Macbook Air and/or Macbook Pro

The question shouldn't be if a mac pro or mac air is enough good to run and work on LDD, but if the Graphic Card mounted on that is. Obviously che CPU can influence the performance, but the GPU is more important. The HD 3000 is good enough to run LDD (that is not certainly an heavy software for a powerful machine), but certainly performances on notebook with a powerful graphic card is much better. -

I think this is your best work, alienwar9. It is not only "big", but it has the right atmosphere (excellent the choice of the background) and has a certain dynamism other creations have not! Compliments, really. I'd like to see it with advanced graphics and superhight resolution (such as 4k scaled to 720p)! -
@Venari Good entry for a first work with LDD! The post is good too, the only thing I could ask you to improve is to crop the blank horizontal stripes in the image. @obsidianheart About decorations, I ever prefer a replacement is found, if possible. Especially for minifigures' faces, that without decorations seems really incomplete.

@C3POwen Could you give us some approximate indications about the time necessary for a rendering? I'd like to know: - time necessary for a rendering such as the one we see in the guide, with your PC (your processor is?) - how the size of the model influence the rendering time (using same effects, lights and resolution) - how optional effects increase the rendering time: increasing resolution and disabling antialiasing, or applying Radiosity and HDR. Another thing about the guide. Step 8.3 Instead than require the use of the regedit, you could prepare a zip containing both the MLCad.grp file and a .reg file to make the modify on the windows register.

Oh, ok, I read many complaints about the last LDD update and I thought the problem was minimal in previous versions. About the decoration and the colour interface, I think LDD should dynamically use the left sidebar to show colours and decorations. Common decorations such as faces or torso's could be grouped. For faces we could have for example: female, male old design, creatures and undead, male new design with accessories (glasses for example), male new design with smiling mouth, ecc... -

@obsidianheart Placing the brick in the copter system was easy using a simple scaffolding. Flex the Hoses around the copter propellers was another kettle of fish! Post a notice here when you'll update your post above.

1) you can replace it with 4x 72504, connecting that with an axle and not with technic pins. Tested and working perfectly. 2) It seems the right piece, but... don't flex! Only the longer 72039 seems able to flex. 3) You could try with the only flexible hose, the 76270. If necessary, "sum" it to the shorter 55668 to reach the length. The one you choose should not be the right one, 184 mm vs 200 mm. There is a brick missing in the propeller system of the copter. Look here to the file with some improvements, including groups!

@GeluNumber1 You can, using the decoration tool (a subtool of the bucket tool). Unfortunately there are some decoration unavailable in this way, due to problem with the new version of LDD. To have that decoration, you can switch to the standard mode, take the brick with the decoration and then come back to the Extended Mode. There are hidden decorations anyway, such as horse printings. To have all available decorations you can import the "all decorations" file created by Aanchir, and available in the LDD Reference Topic. -

Hi Bedjaart, and welcome. At start, a little recommendation: use the proper capitalization. Eurobricks is intended to be a forum for adult users, and a correct writing form is something is expected from an adult. I imagine you have solved this problem going to View > New Themes > LDD Standard (or a similar path... I've not LDD in front of me now). Unfortunately LDD don't connect bricks over smooth surfaces. Anyway you can place that with different methods: - using a scaffolding (usually made with tecnic pieces): connect the car to the scaffolding, then select all except the pivot and move the car to the desired point. - creating a basement where to connect the car, then removing it: use a long plate to connect a part of the baseplate with studs to the smooth part of the baseplate under the car, add some plates to reach the height of the car's bottom and then connect the car to the stand you created. - placing the baseplate under the car: place the car, then lower the level of the ground connecting a baseplate to a brick placed at ground level, then place a new brick to maintain the lowered level, then move the baseplate under the car. LDD is not able to simulate gear rotation as a real model (if not partially using a side effect of the hinge tool). If you mean you have difficulties to place gears, follow the hint of DLuders above. -
Someone some posts ago linked a guide about creating transparent backgrounds (that is very interesting for me). That guide seems to refers to MegaPOV. So it is necessary to achieve this option or it is possible with POWRay too?

With the "reverse grouping" and the hide tool there is an important trick to use. If grouping is a bit "clumsy" in LDD, hiding could be worse! If you make a mistake, you can't turn back or undo last action, so you have to start from the scratch. The trick is to create a parent group to include all other groups (or few parent groups for main parts of the model, at least). That because it is easy to hide already grouped parts simply selecting that group and then use the hide tool. Otherwise there could be the need to select many groups to achieve the same goal. hrontos, could you remember me what was the external software you used to create build instructions?

I Agree... 10 hours are absolutely too much time. Could be your machine is old or slow? Can you provide any detail? The solution proposed to divide the model in submodels is very good, and has many advantages. Not only it reduces the total computational time, but it allow to create separate instructions for each main element, such as classic lego build instructions do. You could divide the model creating one built instructions for each buildings, for each vehicle, for minifigs, etc... At the end you can put all together adding a screenshot of the whole creation (or do that in more than one step).

Eheh that's true, but I love bigger buildings! Forum rules allows images of 800x600 px or smaller (suggesting to don't go over 640x480 in the most of the situations). Look at here, 4th paragraph! (you can find the link to the "Site Guidelines" in each page of the forum) -

Like it! Perhaps the building is too small, but it is difficult to place a bigger one on that platform. For vehicles and other elements did you take inspiration from any existing set? PS: the image is too big, could you resize it?
