[WIP] Crusader Castle - Fortress of the Knights Templar
Tom_Brick posted a topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I've always been impressed by crusader castles. They are massive and they have a unique look due to the merging of European and Oriental architecture. The most famous example is of course Krak des Chevaliers, but I didn't find an angle to turn it into Lego without blowing it up to 10,000+ pieces. Instead, I took inspiration from the Fortress of the Knights Templar in Acre. I still had to shrink it a bit in order to not have it grow out of control, but I feel like I found a good compromise. I wanted it to fit onto two 32x32 baseplates which I just about managed to do. I'm close to finishing the model and I'm currently sitting at 4644 parts. I'm still looking to improve some details, the cobblestone in front of the castle is for example still very primitive and I might add more of a slope to the ground outside. Then there are still some gaps that I might be able to close better. Obviously, it's not minifig scale, that would have required a model that's at least three times as large. Also, it's not modular. While it would be easy to have removable elements, it would be difficult to build any interior at the scale I'm working at. So I saved pieces by having the caste be completely hollow on the inside. Anyway, here are some pictures of where I'm currently at. -

"Look, Ratguts, get this thing moving... NOW!" screamed the goblin wizard. He hated the smell of fish at the best of times and on hot days like these, the smell was particularly bad. And shaking about, high up on his wooden throne always made him feel sick. But the worst thing of all was incessant sound of buzzing. He hated the buzzing most of all. "Yes Boss yes," snapped the hapless driver, "I'm trying to get it to move... but if the spider ain't hungry, then he just ain't hungry!" "Well hurry up and get him hungry, or we'll see if he likes the taste of Ratguts for breakfast!" Dangling the pair of rotting fish further away from them both, and in front of where he can only assume the giant spider is looking, Ratguts encourages the cloud of flies to move in a way that attracts the spider's attention. "Woah, Boss, hold on. Here we go!" he calls out behind him as the giant spider lurches forward. "That's better," roars the wizard, holding onto the swaying throne that little bit tighter, and turning an even paler shade of olive green. "Now, head towards those human lines. We'll give them something to worry about, if my name's not Gazgob the Wizard... CHARGE!" ---------------------------------------- If there's anything about this that you like then I would love it if you would take the time to click and support! https://ideas.lego.c...rojects/134757 Please help inspire TLG and the Lego community to release more castle / medieval / fantasy themed sets! Thank you :D

Hello all There are already many great MOCs on the internet for Gundams/Mecha. I wanted to organize a thread here and collect some of the Medieval Themed (or at least styled) Mechas. I will start by sharing my own MOC, a Knight Templar Mecha (just built it this weekend). One overview photo is attached. More detailed photos can be found on my mocpages account. Here is the link to some basic photos: http://www.moc-pages.../moc.php/426034 and some better quality ones: http://www.moc-pages.../moc.php/426044 (thanks to my wife who is much better at photography) This is the first one of about three I have planned. The Templar is mainly red and black (should be red and white, but.........), I will build a Knight Hospitaller counterpart that's mainly black and white and a Teutonic Knight that's mainly white yellow (gold) and black. I wanted to stick with medieval designs initially but didn't have enough pieces for matching left and right pauldrons. Ended up borrowing some ideas/designs from the gundam MOCs. Some works that I should give credit to are in the following links (may not be original sources): - Zaku MOC that inspired left pauldron: https://www.flickr.c...akboy/165116253 - Another ZAKU MOC that is great: http://gundamfamily....og-post_56.html - I quite liked the bust design. It was learned from another MOC but I can't find the source right now. Will add it in a later post. Please leave your comment or share your favorite Medieval themed (related) mecha. It can be what-ever scale. Also, if you come across any medieval style action figures that can be adapted into a LEGO mecha, please feel free to share it here. Thanks all
