[REVIEW] 5005256 - Marvel Infinity War Minifigures (Bricktober 2018)

The final episode. The most demanded set of all Bricktober in the history. Is it the movie? Maybe. To me, more of the minifigures here that makes the difference. 5004938 - NINJAGO Minifigures 5004939 - TLBM Minifigures 5004941 - Classic Minifigures 5005257 - NINJAGO Minifigures (2018) 5005254 - Harry Potter Minifigures (2018) 5005255 - Jurassic World Minifigures (2018) Are you ready? Overview Name: 5005256 - Marvel Infinity War Minifigures Theme: Promotional \ Toys R Us (Bricktober) Year: 2018 Pieces: 22 pcs Minifigures: 4 Price: free with purchase of RM199 in Malaysia. Introduction All of them are exclusive to the set. You can find some of them outside but the printings are so different that you will like this version more than others. By going through them one by one, you will feel that it's a whole new experience of Infinity War after all. After they discontinued? Maybe they will be like SDCC exclusives? Okay, that's too much. Let's look into it. Box This box art is the nicest as Thanos is at the upper right corner showing off his fully powered Infinity Gauntlet. The most important number here is the 5005256 so that you can easily bricklink the set. LEGO version of Thanos. Clearer view without the plastic. Go protect Earth! Minifigures Wow! This is the most impressive war machine ever designed by LEGO! The accessories are still simple but the printings are exceptional! Let's look at it from the top to bottom. Helmet. It looks quite full with silver colored prints but when you open it up, you can see there are also printings at the cheek area makes it looked cooler than ever! Head. At the front is Ron Cheadle's smiling face but at the back you have a red coloured HUD printing! But here I think the red is too dark makes him looked like he had a punch in his left eye. Haha. Torso. The nanotech design looks very detailed with the chest piece that looks similar to Tony's mark 50. Back print is quite normal but the both side arm printings are phenomenal! Can we ask for side leg printings to make him complete? The left one is from the Airport battle set.You can see the new war machine prints are much denser than the previous version. The HUD prints are actually the same with Tony's version. The only difference is the colour. I think the red should be more transparent for it to look nicer. The side arm prints that is visible a little bit from the back here makes him look much nicer than the previous one. I can't take my eyes off of him. haha Here you can see the 004 indicating that this is actually Mark 4 war machine. See, the older one looks dull with nothing at the arm. Even Giant man wants the new one. Wong. The most anticipated character to appear in LEGO since the Dr Strange movie. The prints are very nice too. The red and blue colour combination of his robe makes him looks movie accurate. His Asian looking facial hair is also a nice touch to the minifigure. The 2x2 printed tile here is maybe one of the books in the library that he guards. Legs are well printed with the side ones too! Constipation at it's best. Tony Stark! He has side arm printings too! This hair captures the hair of Robert Downey Jr in the movie accurately. The grey jacket with the hood and the nanotech chest piece is also a very nice detailing to the minifigure. The startled face is also a very nice addition to this character. Wong! You are invited to my wedding. Bucky Barnes. This is him after cryo sleep and a new vibranium arm gifted by Black Panther, king of Wakanda. His beard is new and the use of gold colour for the vibranium arm makes it looks elegant! This minifigure also has side leg printings at the right side of the minifigure. The old arm was blasted by Tony so he had a new upgrade. Beard darkens in ice? I'm gonna get that arm. Conclusion I love this set so much as it completes my Marvel Infinity War collection! Everyone here is so amazingly designed, well printed and most importantly, EXCLUSIVE! Marvel fans, what are you waiting for? Review summary Design: 10/10 - Very nice design of minifigures that I have to give full marks for that. Minifigures: 10/10 - Can I be greedy to ask for the Collector to be added to this set as the fifth minifigure? Price / Value for money: 10/10 - Good luck getting them after they are discontinued. Be fast guys. Overall: 10/10 - Did I ever give full marks for any other sets? This is so awesome I have to put 10/10! I hope you enjoy reading my simple review and do express your comments below. [REVIEW] 5005257 - NINJAGO Minifigures (Bricktober 2018)

Hi, October is an awesome month for me with the introduction of bricktober minifigures promotion since 2017. To me, these exclusives are really nice to collect. Here is some recap of 2017 bricktober reviews by Eurobricks' marvellous golden reviewer @makoy. 5004938 - NINJAGO Minifigures 5004939 - TLBM Minifigures 5004941 - Classic Minifigures Okay, after reminiscing the past, let's look into 2018. Ninjago is the first bricktober released this year, followed by Harry Potter, Jurrasic World and Infinity War. Let's start. Overview Name: 5005257 - NINJAGO Minifigures Theme: Promotional \ Toys R Us (Bricktober) Year: 2018 Pieces: 25 pcs Minifigures: 4 Price: free with purchase of RM199 in Malaysia. Introduction Last year we thought that was the last bricktober but gladly they're not. Now we are pampered with more interesting minifigures with arm and leg printings. Even the fan is printed. Even me, a non-Ninjago fan, feels happy and excited about these minifigures. Box I love the words at the lower left corner. Limited Edition. Which means you won't find them elsewhere other than this box. I think they heard @makoy's suggestion last year about the minifigures being loosely placed in the box. Let's see why. There are some extension of the black mould plastic at the arm area to secure them in place. I didn't notice that at first but when I tried to take them out single handedly, I can't. Anybody reads these? Can't wait to get out of the box! Okay. Let's go to pose in front of the camera. Minifigures Harumi with the oni mask of hatred. Hmm, as a non-Ninjago fan, I've googled the name of this purple mask. I found out that this minifigure is actually a Princess and the story goes on. Minifigure wise, the print of the mask is truly amazing and two sides of the hair part (plume feather ponytail) can become details of some buildings for MOCers. She is holding two red katana, (I think they are NEW!), with an Armor Rock Shoulder Pads. Look at the printings at the side of the legs! I love them even though they are just a few crack lines there! The other minifigure that wearing this kind of mask are Ultra Violet (Oni Mask of Hatred) and Killow. To my surprise, under the mask is a biker's helmet instead of just one piece mask and I suppose the person under the mask and helmet is Princess Harumi with grey head and white band around the eyes. This minifig had the most accessories in this box. As of the prints, she is printed all over. The grey makes her looks like a statue with expressions. I suppose it's her transformation after she wears the oni mask of hatred? Overall, I really love the detailed prints on her torso, arms and legs. Ugly has a new definition now. Future Jay. So Jay the Blue ninja has grown up and become 'Jackie Chan' in the future and come to the present and for what purpose? Hmm, let's don't go to that. He has arm and side leg prints, and he seems to lose his left eye. No alternate face and a blue ninja robe. Hey Gandalf, he took your staff. 6L Bar with stop ring. Mohawk. He looks scary, with a black spiky hair, and a silver coloured baseball bat. One skull face, no alternate expressions and a highly detailed torso and jean print. The tatoos at the right arm looks amazing too! Yes. 2018 bricktober is better than 2017. So much better. Nya. The best minifigure so far for a Geisha looking girl. The prints are totally marvellous and the fan is very uniquely printed. I like the smirk as the alternate facial expression here on a kabuki-face printing. It's not about you. Conclusion As a non-ninjago fan, I truly don't appreciate this set as Ninjago characters but I still love them with so many detailed prints. This is totally worth for money as the minifigures are exclusive and can be used in so many ways. Review summary Playability: 6/10 - Play feature? I didn't see any at the box art. But you can make a minifigure sit, stand or run, so I give it a six. Design: 10/10 - Yes FULL marks for the design! Minifigures: 9/10 - Future Jay is quite simple, and Harumi is scary. Hence the one point deduction. Price / Value for money: 10/10 - Who doesn't love a free set? (I paid RM199 for the other set to get this free, but it's still worth it!) Overall: 8.5/10 - This is a very good set and I think Ninjago fan would love it. Even I liked it very much. I hope you enjoy reading my simple review and do express your comments below. [REVIEW] 5004938 - NINJAGO Minifigures (Bricktober 2017)

I have a confession to make. I am not a Bricktober guy and by that I mean I have never patronised any Bricktober sets. So, believe it or not, I got my very first Bricktober set today. Now that my confession is over, here’s my 12th RA review - set # 5004938 NINJAGO Minifigures (Bricktober 2017). Overview Name: 5004938 - NINJAGO Minifigures Theme: Promotional \ Toys R Us (Bricktober) Year: 2017 (2H) Pieces: 29 pcs Minifigures: 4 Price: free with purchase USA: Free with purchase worth 50 USD or more Canada: Free with purchase worth 75 CAD or more Europe (i.e.Germany): available at 14.99 EUR initially then became free with purchase worth 40 EUR or more Singapore: Free with purchase worth 60 SGD or more Malaysia: Free with purchase 199 MYR or more Hong Kong: Free with purchase 450 HKD or more Offers vary per country. Introduction Some people are apprehensive that this could be the last Bricktober due to the recent TRU financial restructuring. I'm not here to address that. Whether it will be the last batch of Bricktober or not, only time will tell. As for now, let me focus your attention on this little set that you can get free with purchase in most TRU around the world. Now let's begin with the front panel of the packaging. Front view The little box is protected with a slide-in plastic cover that is secured with seals at both ends. The seal goes around on top and bottom of the box. There is a potential that something inside could slip outside in case they got loose. Speaking of getting loose, you can see that the 3rd minifigure in my copy is already loosened up. Even the accessory/weapon is not attached to the minifigure hand. Fortunately, there is no missing piece in my copy. Back view The packaging seal / batch number at the back of my set is 24GH7. It's my first time seeing 2 letters in the middle. Usually it's just single letter. If someone knows what it means or if you want to know more what this is all about, there's a topic to know which plant your LEGO sets came from. I think most of the components came from Hungary and China though. Side view There are 4 Bricktober sets for 2017 and this is the first one of them all so "minifigure #1" is highlighted in white to make sure you understand there are 3 more. I think in Europe the order is different so this packaging detail could vary from region to region. On top of that, TRU and TLG really wants to make sure we understand that this set is limited edition. So much so that the top panel has the words "Limited edition, Exclusively at" in English while the side panels has the translated phrase in German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian and Mandarin. There's more space on the right panel. It would have been nice to see 1 more Asian language there like Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesia. Seriously, what else can I comment about the box.It's just a box and this is such a small set. Ok, moving on! The item below is a "Pop-up Card". It comes with the bricktober set from my local TRU. I'm just throwing this in the review because it's just display backdrop made out of laminated paper. Again, this has the words LIMITED EDITION in all caps, underline (overline?) and bold. I think this message is very clear already. The back of the card shows the schedule of the next Bricktober set. Like other Bricktober promotions, there will be new set each week. When you open it, the card has a pop-up elements, hence the name. I think it's only good for one minifigure though. I did not even try taking picture of the minifigures using this display background because it is too small. Anyway, it's free so it's fine. Minifigures I used a hobby knife to cut the seals from both ends and then freed the minifigures out of the box. As the minifigures come pre-built, this set involves no building whatsoever. It's really just a minifigure pack. We have White Nindroid, Neuro, Krux and a new Golden Ninja. One thing that I noticed immediately is the weaker clutch power of the torso and legs assembly. Let me know if your Bricktober minifigures also has a weak clutch power. It's very concerning but other than that, the quality of the minifigures are great. Front view with all accessories and head gears / hair piece White Nindroid is way overdue. Here we get the White Nindroid General. If you can't remember what they are -- the White Nindroids are part of the Nindroid Forces who protect the Realm Crystal in Ninjago Universe. I'll go in more detail about the prints later on because there are several variants of nindroids and I want to show them side by side. The next minifigure is Neuro who is the elemental master of mind. His face print is spot on from the TV show and I cannot complain about his torso print either. The hairpiece is not new. It is just an old white hairpiece with black printed on top. It's always good to get another elemental master. We may see all elemental masters released one day. Keep them coming TLG! The 3rd minifigure is called Acronix on LEGO sets but his name is Krux on the TV show. TLG messed up the names of the time twins big that from time to time I need to check if I am citing the correct name of the twins. I'll just go with Krux because I follow the TV show and I consider the names wrong on the Iron Doom set. For starter, the face print is unique for this minifigure because it is the young version of Krux. It also has a slightly different armour. The hourglass is hidden away, almost unrecognisable as hourglass unless you know it is an hourglass in the other version of this minifigure. The leg prints do not have the chains which makes this entire minifigure unique despite looking seemingly similar. Then of course we have a new Golden Ninja which I will go in detail soon. Back view with all accessories and head gears / hair piece Let's view the back of these minifigures first with accessories. Not much to say except the back of Krux's torso shows the chain, (also present in his old version). However, there is no battle damage/scratch on his right shoulder armour plate yet, since this minifigure is his young version. Front view without the accessories and head gears / hair piece. Remove all the headgears/ head wrap -- and there's a PLOT TWIST! The Golden Ninja is Kai!? I did not notice this when the images came out online. The emblem in the middle of the torso is Kai's emblem. I have written some information about these emblems just in case you're not familiar with these Ninjago emblems and symbols. I don't know if this is an alternate universe where Kai became the Golden Ninja or this version of Golden Ninja only lives within Kai's imagination. Look at the forced smile on Kai's face. No matter what the backstory is, this Kai Golden Ninja version was totally unexpected. If you don't believe it's Kai then the back printing as seen below will remove all doubt. It shows Kai's original "fire" animal symbol at the back of the minifigure. Back view without the accessories and head gears / hair piece. Only the White Nindroid has dual head printing. The rest of the head pieces don't have dual face prints. Nonetheless, excellent torso back printing for all minifigures. Golden Ninja (Kai) vs Golden Ninja (Lloyd) Don't get confused with these other minifigures below. They are not included in the set. I am just doing a comparison of other Kai and Lloyd minifigures againts Kai Golden Ninja minifigure (3rd from the left). The Lloyd Golden Ninja is 4th from the left. Kai Golden Ninja design closely resemble the Techno Robe (2nd from the left) with a mix of similar leg assembly design from Elemental Kimono Robe (1st from the left) Now let's put on Kai's hair just for the sake of comparison again. Old hair on the new face Probably the most Kai-looking face similar to the TV show. Just heads Without the torso and legs, we can focus on the minifigure heads as seen below. The most common Kai face is in the middle. On the left is the face used in Stone Armour Kai (Target exclusive) while the right one is the new head used in the new Kai Golden Ninja version. I really wish they could have removed that scar permanently already. However, without the scar, Kai's face will be very close to Lloyd's face -- and that's probably why I was confused from the beginning that it was Lloyd. With the scar covered by the head wrap, it's hard to see whether it is Lloyd or Kai. The Ninjago Movie movie had addressed this issue easily by changing Lloyd's eye colour to green which I don't mind having in future version of Lloyd so that it's easier to distinguish Lloyd from Kai. White Nindroid General vs General Cryptor Surprise surprise. It's the same old mould but the printing is not just a lazy re-colour. The details are quite different if you look closely. Starting on the armour, the print details are different. The printing on the head gear is slightly different also with different sizes of purple dots. Not much difference at the back of the head gear except the silver paint covers more area. Good vs. Bad There are many variations of nindroids torso. None of them are identical to the new white version. Even the two variants not shown here, which appears in Titanium Ninja Tumbler and Samurai X Cave Chaos sets, have different print designs. Even at the back, it's all different. Parts Here is a quick recap on what those 29 pieces are. You should could the head, torso and legs assembly separately (counted as 3 pieces per minifigure). I'm actually surprised that all the torso has unique printing and only 1 legs assembly don't have prints. It is not obvious from the picture but the swords were bent inside the packaging because they were already fully built with accessories. It's not a serious problem but just be aware they are slightly bent. Conclusion As a minifigure collector, I see this as a great way to get unique minifigures that are relevant to the story and universe of Ninjago. I was pleasantly surprised that the prints are not lazy rehash or just simple recolour. I probably wrote too much for such a small set but I am happy that I got my first Bricktober set and I hope that you will enjoy these minifigures when you decide to get this set. Review summary Playability: 7/10 - Yes, you can play with minifigures. That’s fun too. This is aimed at minifigure collectors so if you want bricks, don't look here. Design / Building Experience: N/A - Everything comes pre-assembled. Besides there's no building blocks in this set so I’ll just leave it there. Minifigures: 8.5/10 - Getting 4 minifigures is great but the weak clutch power between torso and legs bother me a bit. Could have been higher or perfect if Neuro got a new hair mould and/or Krux got a hairpiece instead of the head gear. Price / Value for money: 10/10 - I got this for free so I don’t see any reason why I should not give a perfect score for value. Overall: 8.5/10 - I’m very happy there’s already a White Nindroid. Neuro is a great addition to the list of elemental masters. New Golden Ninja is a big surprise for me. Even the young Krux got all new prints. Overall, it’s a great set that any Ninjago fan should not miss. Thanks for reading. -
[REVIEW] 5005254 - Harry Potter Minifigures (Bricktober 2018)

Hi I'm here again for a quick and simple review of the second bricktober of 2018, Harry Potter minifigures. This is another theme that I'm not familiar with but I will still try my best to review them as minifigure collectors. 5004938 - NINJAGO Minifigures 5004939 - TLBM Minifigures 5004941 - Classic Minifigures 5005257 - NINJAGO Minifigures (2018) Let's start with them. Overview Name: 5005254 - Harry Potter Minifigures Theme: Promotional \ Toys R Us (Bricktober) Year: 2018 Pieces: 25 pcs Minifigures: 4 Price: free with purchase of RM199 in Malaysia. Introduction This set is target only for Harry Potter fans specifically as they are not much appeared in other sets or only appeared in one or two old sets. Prints are detailed but not as detail as the Ninjago minifigures in my last review. However this set does attract the attention of Harry Potter fans. Box Same limited edition box, this time in dark blue and Harry Potter shooting some lightning at the top right corner. Same but a little bit different. Let's bring them out. Minifigures Madam Rolanda Hooch. She has short grey hair, and yellow eyes like a hawk with goggles. She is the teacher in Hogwarts teaching Harry and friends how to ride on a broom. Her grey hair needs a new mould as I personally don't like this hairpiece. She is wearing her black robe with a Hogwarts batch at the torso. No side printings and the interesting part of this minifigure is the alternate face with the goggle. No leg prints and carrying a broom and a tan wand. These are the other Madam Hooch that appeared in the past. Year 2002 and 2010. I feel that the 2010 version had better printing of the torso and the head. Not sure what is the reason behind the re-release of this minifigure here. (Pictures taken from Bricklink) New Students in Hogwarts. Money can't buy everything. Horace Slughorn. He is a potions master hence the green bottle of juice in his hand here. He is retired and recruited by Dumbledore hence the wrinkles on his face of retirement. His torso is well printed with a bow tie, and back is simple printing of the buttons. No side printings and he is with an ordinary grey hair. I suppose this is the first time he appeared as a minifigure as I can't find any in bricklink. Wrong wizard. Professor Dolores Umbridge. She wears a nice pink outfit with a cat badge on her torso. I suppose she likes cats very much. She is holding a brown wand and a teacup which I suppose it is a new cup in LEGO. Her hair is nice in brown and the legs are printed as well as the side. So this is how high heels looks like in LEGO minifigure! She has a smiling face and looks a bit scary when she gets angry. These are other versions of her. The microfig is very nicely printed (Every microfig is nice to me, haha). I feel the 2007 version's hair is nicer and if anyone have both can swap it and you are welcome to show us in the comments area. Torso print I think the latest one is nicer. (Pictures taken from Bricklink) Beauty and the Beast. Boggart snape. They say Boggart is a shapeshifter who can take shape of whatever it thinks will frighten us most. However this Boggart actually brighten up this set. I love his bag, his torso and the continuity of the scarf part to the torso print with a cat biting a mouse. To me, this is the best minifigure in this set. This is the previous version of him. Awfully looking torso print and face and the hair is totally bad. However the glow in the dark head is quite interesting part here. (Pictures taken from Bricklink) In the movie, the Boggart comes with a crow on his hat. Here we have a hat but no crow. However there is a hole there and we can actually snatch that crow and put it there to complete the minifigure. Not bad at all. Conclusion As a non-Harry Potter fan, I really have a hard time appreciating them. Maybe someday after I watch the movie I will love them better. However for Harry Potter fans out there, this is a must get set as the minifigures are upgraded version of old uglier version! Slughorn is exclusive! Review summary Playability: 6/10 - Same as Ninjago. Design: 8/10 - I think I'm spoilt by the legs and side printings of the Ninjago Bricktober 2018 minifigures. Minifigures: 8/10 - As I said, I barely know them but after comparing them to their older version, they are certainly better. (Except for Madam Hooch) Price / Value for money: 8/10 - Worthy for Harry Potter fans. Overall: 7.5/10 - Maybe a Harry Potter fan will rate this higher. Should I go watch the movies? I did the review of the Ninjago Minifigures Bricktober 2017 set last week so if you have not read that, go ahead and read it. As a moderate fan of Superhero movies and comics, I like Batman. I can tell you upfront that I'm not the biggest fan but I can tell you right away that I really like this set when it was first announced. So, let's not waste more time and go straight to my 13th RA review, set # 5004939 The LEGO Batman Movie Minifigures (Bricktober 2017). Overview Name: 5004939 - The LEGO Batman Movie Minifigures Theme: Promotional \ Toys R Us (Bricktober) Year: 2017 (2H) Pieces: 27 pcs Minifigures: 4 Price: free with purchase USA: Free with purchase worth 50 USD or more Canada: Free with purchase worth 75 CAD or more Europe (i.e.Germany): available at 14.99 EUR initially then became free with purchase worth 40 EUR or more Singapore: Free with purchase worth 60 SGD or more Malaysia: Free with purchase 199 MYR or more Hong Kong: Free with purchase 450 HKD or more Offers vary per country. It could also vary in different stores in the USA. Introduction If you read my first review on this year's Bricktober, you'll know that this year has a lot of very interesting minifigures. I'm going to switch gear to my superhero thinking hat now so let's begin with the front panel of the packaging. Front view Just like the Ninjago set, the little box is protected with a slide-in plastic cover that is secured with seals at both ends. The TLBM set contains some small elements that may detach from the minifigure accidentally and could slip outside the case due to their small size. So when you get your copy, pay attention to the 1x2 money tile and gold sword. Ensure they are in the package. Unlike the previous set that I got, these minifigures are snuggly fit inside their own chambers inside the packaging. I also noticed that this packaging has less words in front than the Ninjago package. Apart from the recommended age of "6+" and "Limited Edition Exclusively at Toys R Us" words, there is no other printed words. Back view There are 2 more corporate logos included at the back, reminding everyone that this is a licensed property of both DC and Warner Bros. Like the previous set, the packaging seal / batch number at the back of my set is 24GH7 even though there is one country missing in the source of components -- Hungary. Components were sourced from Denmark, the Czech Republic, Mexico and China. Side view This is the 2nd set for Bricktober 2017 therefore the "minifigure #2" is highlighted in white at the top side of the box. This is true to my region as different markets may have different order of release. Again folks, this set is "Limited edition, Exclusively at Toys R Us" as seen from all sides of the packaging. As with the previous set, those words are translated from English to German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian and Mandarin (Chinese). In Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong, there is a free pop-up card laminated paper backdrop that comes free with each Bricktober set. I am not sure if the item below is also available in US/UK/EU because it really varies per market. You can see the front of the card below. The information printed on the back is the same as the previous one. Below is how the pop-up card looks like with the minifigures Minifigures I used a hobby knife to cut the seals from both ends and then I freed the minifigures out of the box. Voila! We get 4 minifigures out of the box. From left to right, these Batman minifigures are officially named Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman, Easter Bunny Batman, Wizbat and Baturion. They all came pre-built so there is no building needed. I reported the weak clutch power in the Ninjago set last week for which I was truly disappointed. For this set, I have a mixed result as far as my copy is concerned. Only the Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman has a much weaker clutch power. The Easter Bunny Batman has a weak clutch power due to the utility belt in the middle of the torso and legs assembly. When I remove the utility belt and put together the torso and legs assembly together, the clutch power is remarkably stronger than any of these Batman minifigures. The Wizbat is given to have a weaker clutch power because it is connected to a slope piece. However, once I connect it to other legs assembly, a normal clutch power is there. Baturion is also weaker than typical but not as weak as the Dollar Bill Tuxedo batman. Front view with all accessories and head gears / hair piece There are a number of different batsuits that are yet to be released so when these four were announced I was really excited, specially for the blue bunny. The prints are all unique. Having Bunny headgear in a new colour alone is something to be excited about, at least to those who collect all the animal costumed characters. Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman comes in green torso and legs assembly with dollar bill printed all over it - front, back and sides. He even has a gold necklace, a black undershirt and black necktie. A 100 bill 1x2 tile also comes as additional accessory. I think this tuxedo is something that a pimp will wear but I really don't know anyone in real life so who am I to speak. Next is the Easter Bunny Batman which comes in Bright Light Blue. LEGO officially calls this colour Light Royal Blue so there is something royal to this Blue Easter Bunny. It has pink basket (soft rubbery material), a dark azure egg, and a white utility belt (new colour). Wizbat is a ridiculous rendition of a wizard Batman. He has a bat bling bling (amulet) and a bat staff. His bat robe has batman symbol printed in front of the dark blue torso and slope piece. It also comes with a dark blue cape and high round collar. Last one is Baturion which is essentially a Centurion Batman, hence the name. I have to be blunt though. I don't like the ancient Roman army in general. I didn't collect the Roman soldier minifigures and I don't care much about them so my opinion on Baturion is just neutral. I do appreciate the design. It is an excellent minifigure. It has a curved rectangular shield in black with batman logo (new colour & print), a unique torso, new dual moulded legs with new printing, as well as a new roman soldier helmet in black with dark red plume fused together. It also comes with a gold sword. It's really a loaded minifigure and I can see why many people will like it. Back view with all accessories and head gears / hair piece The back view shows the back printing of the Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman and Easter Bunny Batman. The material used in Wizbat and Baturion cape is the spongy stretchable type, but there is also a classic cloth used for the high round collar of Wizbat. As you can see from the picture above, the capes were all creased because they were already inserted and worn onto the minifigure inside the packaging. I will talk more about these capes later on, but let's continue with the minifigure details first. Side view The side printing is quite generous in this set. Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman got both side arm and leg printing showing the same dollar print, while Baturion has side leg printing showing the pleated garment. Front view without the accessories and head gears / hair piece. Let's remove the cowl of all these Batman minifigures so that we can see each different expressions. Spoiler: three of them got dual face prints. First, Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman got an existing head with neutral / grin pattern. Easter Bunny Batman has a new snobbish look with a headband pattern that covers the whole eyes area and not the usual kind that covers only the forehead. It's the only one with single face print while the rest have dual face print. Wizbat got an existing stern / open mouth angry pattern Lastly, Baturion seems to have a distinctly new pattern also because it has a different head band pattern that I cannot find in any other Batman minifigures. Back view without the accessories and head gears / hair piece. As mentioned earlier, only 1 of these minifigures has no dual face print and that is the Easter Bunny Batman. You can check the alternate face with the cowl in my Flickr album. Ok, now that we're done showcasing the minifigures from the set, I will proceed to the portion where I will showcase other minifigures and give you some ideas how they compare with other minifigures of the same type. Again, I cannot give Baturion justice because I don't have any Roman-related minifigures so just enjoy the pictures without it. Batman likes patterns Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman enjoys company with Kiss Kiss Tuxedo Batman, Vacation Batman and Lobster Lovin' Batman. Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman probably has the most flamboyant look. Money is not everything, but it is something You can imagine different scenarios where you can use the dollar bill tuxedo torso and legs assembly. It's begging to parody any subject dealing with money and riches. Exchanging groceries Here's a picture of the Bunny Suit Guy being coerced to exchange his carrot for the blue easter egg. You can imagine this blue easter bunny torso as the alpha male bunny with its 6-pack muscles torso print. I could also imagine erasing the Batman logo to make this torso more versatile but it's silly to do that if you can just use a plain torso for replacement. Drop your goods inside the basket! Easter Bunny Batman showing the other costumed minifigs who is the boss. Somewhere in the infinite inter-dimensional universe, Stitch is Batman Stitch torso has a different shade of blue but due to the lighter printed shade on the chest, it seems to integrate well. Portrait of a Happy Bunny Family, or is it? They say two is a company, three is a crowd. I say, two is a company, three is a family. Then it should follow the Fibonacci sequence... 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, etc. You know how quickly rabbits propagate. The sorcerer supreme I don't really like the use of slopes to make a "skirt" or long robes but I guess they are fine when prints are done this good. Parts Here is a quick recap on what those 27 pieces are. You should count the head, torso and legs assembly separately (counted as 3 pieces per minifigure). Ok, I said I will come back to talk about the capes. Here is a quick tip on how to fix those creased cloth capes. You can just use a low setting on your steam iron, press them, and the creases will be gone in seconds. See the picture below after just one iron press. Look 'ma, no creases! Conclusion As a regular minifigure collector, I am not really a fan of flesh-skin tone minifigures (unless it is Star Wars ). I do appreciate this TLBM Bricktober set because of its highly desirable batsuits. There are a lot of batsuits in the comics as well as The LEGO Batman Movie universe; I don't think we are going to run out of batsuits soon as they keep on coming! This Bricktober set also earned a lot of interest from collectors and non-collectors. On the day I bought my copy, I even saw a buyer rushing and frantically getting a set to buy because he arrived late at TRU. I saw some getting a dozen (whether it is a group buy or just for reselling, I don't know). All I know is in my region there is a remarkable response to this Batman minifigures because all the stocks from my TRU Malaysia and Singapore are mostly gone by afternoon, on day 1! I really like this set, and I dare say I like this even more than the Ninjago Bricktober set. If I will rank the minifigures based on my liking, it would be Easter Bunny Batman, Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman, Wizbat and Baturion. Which one is your favourite? You can vote in the poll above. Minifigures: 9.5/10 - Getting 4 batsuits is awesome but the weaker clutch power on some minifigures between torso and legs continues to bother me. Price / Value for money: 10/10 - I got this for free so I don’t see any reason why I should not give a perfect score for value. Overall: 9.5/10 - I'm bumping up the score higher than the average score because this is really an excellent set that I will recommended even to non-Batman fans. [REVIEW] 5004941 - Classic Minifigures (Bricktober 2017)

If you have been following my 2017 Bricktober reviews, you know that I skipped the City Jungle Minifigures without any regret. If you have been gone in the past few weeks, go ahead and read my review for Bricktober 2017 - Ninjago and Bricktober 2017 - TLBM sets. Now, for my 14th RA review, I am back with the 4th week Bricktober set # 5004941 - Classic. Overview Name: 5004941 - Classic [Minifigure Collection] Theme: Promotional \ Toys R Us (Bricktober) Year: 2017 (2H) Pieces: 18 pcs Minifigures: 4 Price: free with purchase USA: Free with purchase worth 50 USD or more Canada: Free with purchase worth 75 CAD or more Europe (i.e.Germany): available at 14.99 EUR initially then became free with purchase worth 40 EUR or more Singapore: Free with purchase worth 60 SGD or more Malaysia: Free with purchase 199 MYR or more Hong Kong: Free with purchase 450 HKD or more Offers vary per country. It could also vary in different stores in the USA. Introduction I know upfront that I cannot pull off a WhiteFang here since I started collecting CMF quite late and I am not a completionist. To make it more enchanting, I don't even have the original of these classic minifigures. There will be no breakdown of each minifigure parts because they all came pre-assembled inside the packaging. After all, that's only really useful for feeling the content of a blind bag or foil pack; that's not the case here. The first iteration of these minifigures was produced between 2010 to 2012. By that definition, I guess LEGO can call any non-licensed re-release a classic if the original release was already 5 years or older. Front view Just like all other Bricktober minifigure set I reviewed several weeks ago, the little box is protected with a slide-in plastic cover that is secured with seals at both ends. Unlike the Ninjago and TLBM minifigure collection sets, these one does not contain any small elements that could slip outside the case. Just look at these minifigures for a moment. Only the Green Cheerleader has accessories (pom-poms) on its hand and even if the packaging is loose, I don't think those pom-poms will get out so easily. Just ensure you get two inside the package. The text printed on the front box panel is similar to the Ninjago set, with text for "building toys" and the number of pieces. The product illustration is simply studs at the header of the box. The colour of the box is the classic LEGO yellow so you cannot confuse this with the Batman Black and Yellow colour scheme. See the difference below -- Back view Like the previous Bricktober set, the packaging seal / batch number at the back of my set is 24GH7. There's a peculiarity again with the source of components because this time Mexico is not on the list. Components were sourced from Denmark, the Czech Republic, Hungary and China. Side view This is the 4th set for Bricktober 2017, therefore, the "minifigure #4" is highlighted in white at the top side of the box. This is true to my region as different markets have a different order of release. Again, this set is "Limited edition, Exclusively at Toys R Us" as seen from all sides of the packaging. As with the previous set, those words are translated from English to German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian and Mandarin (Chinese). In Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong, there is a free pop-up card laminated paper backdrop that comes free with each Bricktober set. I am not sure if the item below is also available in US/UK/EU because it really varies per market. The information printed on the back is the same as the previous one. Below is how the pop-up card looks like with the minifigures. For a change, the backdrop is useful for these minifigures because they appear to be on top of the deck of the boat. Minifigures Below is the picture of the minifigures after I cut the seals of the box at both ends with my hobby knife. We get 4 minifigures out of the box. These are the re-release of Collectable Minifigures in blind bags. Most of them were already hard to get unless you are willing to pay higher in the secondary market. Now, it is even harder to get the exclusive re-release due to its limited retail release. Does it make sense? No, not really. However, it depends on who you ask. For a regular guy like me who collected CMF late in the game, and does not bother about retired sets and CMFs (in general), these minifigures are relatively more accessible to me now than the older minifigures. As I don't have the original 'classic CMF' equivalent of these minifigures, I thought that I should at least mention the information of the first version of these minifigures. I do have a Collectable Minifigure Encyclopedia for the sake of side by side comparison so you can click the links below if you wish to see that. The Boxer is a call back to Series 5 Boxer (2011). Other boxers had appeared in the series including the Team GB Brawny Boxer and Series 16 Kickboxer Girl. The Hippie is essentially a recolour of Series 7 Hippie (2012). The Green Cheerleader is a variant of Series 1 Blue Cheerleader (2010). Other cheerleaders had appeared in the series as well these are: Series 8 Red Cheerleader (2012), Series 14 Zombie Cheerleader (2015) The Sailor is a recolour of Series 4 Sailor (2011) When you're done reading this review you can revisit WhiteFang's classic review for Series 1, Series 4, Series 5 and Series 7 later. I also reported the weaker clutch power in the Ninjago and TLBM in my previous reviews so there are no exemptions. The clutch power of these minifigures between the torso and legs are the relatively the same as the other regular CMF series (e.g. Series 14 to Series 16). Surprisingly I noticed that The LEGO Ninjago Movie CMF clutch power is much stronger than the regular series as they are closer to the clutch power of torso and legs made in the 90's. Front view with all accessories and head gears / hair piece Boxer What's the same from the original Series 5 Boxer? Apparently, just the head gear. Series 5 Boxer is the first minifigure to have both of its hands replaced with accessories (boxing gloves). This re-release of the Boxer is the 5th overall iteration of minifigure that wore boxing gloves; the 3rd one if counting only the red gloves. The blue gloves were worn by Brawny Boxer (Team GB) and the purple gloves were worn Raging Batsuit (TLBM). You would think that the default beaten up face is the same as original Boxer but it is actually a mirror image of the black eye, crooked lips face print. Its championship belt is white and grey which is a downgrade from the original Boxer that had gold and black. The striped blue and white boxer shorts give the minifigure a more amateurish look. The printing also continues at the side. Hippie What's the same from the original Series 7 Hippie? None. Series 7 Hippie is the first minifigure to wear tie-dyed torso. The newer version of the Hippie is the 3rd one. Wait, was there a 2nd Hippie that I didn't know? Not exactly a Hippie but there was a lime top variant without side printing was included in the abomination called Bricktober 2016. That Bricktober set was called "Musician" and the Hippie torso was used in a minifigure with dark tan Paleonthologist pants with striped socks. Thankfully we got a proper Hippie this time and it is hippier that ever. The hair piece is a recolour of the original reddish brown long hair with orange headband printing. The new Hippie has a dark tan long hair with lime green headband printing that goes around the hair piece. The face print is a recolour too. This time the facial hair is in dark tan colour while the glasses are tinted amber (orange) and it gives this Hippie a more John Lennon vibe. The torso base colour is sand blue with fringe printing forming the outer vest. The purple and lime swirls form the tie-dye pattern on top of the orange print. The orange arms have purple side printings too. Its legs are plain sand blue legs assembly without any printing. Green Cheerleader What's the same from the original Series 1 Cheerleader? None as well! There were several cheerleaders that appeared in other CMF series. These include Series 8 Red Cheerleader (2012) and Series 14 Zombie Cheerleader (2015). The letter printed on each cheerleader is unique. The original blue Cheerleader has "M" which stands for Matthew (or Makoy). The Red Cheerleader has "A" which stands for Ashton, then the Zombie Cheerleader has "Z" which we could only assume stands for Zombie. Then comes the Green Cheerleader with letter "J" which stands for James -- not Justin or just2good. This finally completes the full name of LEGO VP of Design, Matthew James Ashton. We could only hope in 30 years to get the rest of the remaining 22 English alphabets if that is even in design pipeline. The legs (skirt) printing is also unique. It's not just a recolour of the old print as the pattern is different. It's not shown in the front view pictures but the yellow leg colour extends at the side. It's a missed opportunity to use dual moulded legs but following the original design of these minifigures, I understand why there is no dual moulded legs or arms in this set. The hairpiece used is not the same as the original Cheerleader but it uses the pigtails hair piece from the Zombie Cheerleader in plain dark orange colour. If you think about it, the dark green Zombie Cheerleader could be the zombified version of the Green Cheerleader, not the original Blue Cheerleader. The pom-poms have green printing, too, following the green uniform of the Green Cheerleader. Sailor What's the same from the original Series 4 Sailor? Head gear and legs. It has the same white sailor hat with dark blue anchor pattern and plain white legs. It's probably the 'laziest' re-release but I will not call it lazy because it is still unique. Let me go in more detail. The face print is a mirror image of the original sailor face print so the winking eye is the right eye, not the left eye. The eye brow of the left eye is also higher so it's not just a simple flipped mirror image. The torso is basically an inverted image of the white torso. To be fair, the Sailor is the only minifigure with back printing as seen in the picture below. Back view with all accessories and head gears / hair piece There's nothing to write about back printing except the sailors oversized collar. Ok, if you count the Hippie headband on its hair piece then that's about it. Side view The side printing is a bit generous. The Boxer and Green Cheerleader have side legs printing while the Hippie has side arms printing. Front view without the accessories and head gears / hair piece. Once the accessories and hair pieces were removed, the Hippie's torso fringe printing is more visible. Apart from that. nothing much is revealed by removing accessories as most details on these minifigures are not covered or obscured by any accessories Back view without the accessories and head gears / hair piece. The only surprise looking at the back without any accessories is the reveal of the alternate face print for the boxer. It does not have the left and right cheek lines but it has a small crow foot beside the right eye (it's the branching wrinkle at the outer corner of the eye) The mouth piece is not gold but it is coloured light royal blue instead. Ok, now were done with mug shots, here's the part were I will put these minifigures together with some other minifigures to showcase their similarities or relationship. A sailor went to sea sea sea to see what he could see see see A lucky Sailor sees a mermaid, or maybe not? Imagine all the people sharing all the world... I'm sure the Disco Diva will hang out with the Hippie in the 1960's. Missing in action - the other Hippie and the Disco Dude didn't get the invitation. Breakthrough on the other side! The Hippie headband is not only for the Hippie subculture, it's also great for psychedelic rock! Boo Lloyd! Boo Lloyd! If you didn't watch The LEGO Ninjago Movie, then you won't get the Boo Lloyd reference. It was a smashing radio hit! Pigtails and pom-poms come in pair Give me a Z! Give me an O!... ahhh pug? Give me a J! Jumping Roundhouse Kick Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet.... Just a man and his will to survive. -- Boxer (2017) Got the guts, but not the glory Eye of the tiger? Nope. More like black eye! Btw, here's another head kick. Ultimate (mini) Figure Championships "Your clutch power is weaker than mine!", said the Wrestling Champion. Beaten but not defeated Boxer: What's up bro? Clumsy Guy: My last fight with the Banana Man didn't go so well. Boxer: Let's form a tag team next time? Clumsy Guy: Sure thing! Parts Here is a quick recap on what those mere 18 pieces are. You should count the head, torso and legs assembly separately (counted as 3 pieces per minifigure). This Bricktober set has the least amount of pieces due to absurd lack of accessories. The Boxer could have benefited from a medal, the Hippie could have a flower like the original, and the Sailor could use a telescope. Conclusion Before I conclude this review, let's address the proverbial elephant in the room: is this just a lazy rehash? Personally, I don't think it is. A serious effort had been made so that some of the minifigures in this collection will not appear blatantly similar when compared to the first version. The Hippie and Green Cheerleader is the 2 outstanding minifigures in my opinion. I certainly enjoy the new Boxer even though it is very similar to the first Boxer. The weakest is obviously the sailor but even that came with a different winking eye. Surely, most casual LEGO set buyers and minifigure collectors will enjoy this classic collection of minifigures. Even if you already have the original Boxer, Hippie, Cheerleader and Sailor, at least one of these minifigures would entice you to get this set. Let me know which one is your favourite by voting in the poll above. Review summary Playability: 6.5/10 - This set is aimed at CMF collectors. While it's fun to play with minifigures, the absence of accessories for most minifigures takes away some fun factor. Design / Building Experience: N/A - Everything comes pre-assembled. Besides, there are no building blocks in this set so I’ll just leave it there. Minifigures: 9/10 - It's a great way to get similar minifigures you missed out from the original CMF run. Price / Value for money: 10/10 - I got this for free so I don’t see any reason why I should not give a perfect score for value. Overall: 8.5/10 - If you have the original CMF versions, the most compelling reason to get this is the John Lennon inspired Hippie and the Green Cheerleader because these variants look different. If you don't have any of the original minifigures, like me, then there's no reason why you will skip it unless you hate getting something free or if you have to buy this from a scalper. Does anyone know if LEGOland CA is having their annual BrickTOBER event this year? I am sure they will have the decorations and Brick-or-Treating, but I am wondering about their usual sale day for Merlin members. I have not received my coupon / notification of the day yet. I thought the flyer came earlier than this in previous years. Anybody got their flyer / coupon yet? I will either buy my annual stock-up doing double points at the LEGO Store, or LEGOland or a combination of both. I need to plan my shopping trip. Thanks Andy D
