42177 Mercedes G500 4X4
SNIPE replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
question: the rear axle has two 5L suspension arms and one new suspension arm from set 42172, so what is this 9L link used for? (it's in the bag where you build the rear axle) I wonder if it's to remotley lock the rear diff, and the photo of him doing it was just a more camera friendly way of presenting the function. -

Yeah, for now ill just ditch the planetary hubs and use stock hubs along with cv joint female short and 5L axle with cv joint ends. Anyhow, i forgot that the beams are not 45 degrees but 53.13 degrees so the horizontal 6 and 8L tile isnt quite fitting :( LDCAD freaked out when I tried to copy then mirror this assembly for the other side of the car but heres the ldraw file anyhow: here and heres a full size image: here Working on front axle now EDIT: done, didnt add steeing yet because not sure where the steering goes in real model, I have brick built fake disc brakes that can slip over the wheel hubs, they were originally for my 42110 mod so went over planetary hubs but they should work here too. LDRAW file: here and full size image here This axle is more or less the same as the one in my 42110 mod and the clutch ring is moved using a comma panel connected to a spike prime small angular motor (too bad about the color vomit) -

Maybe the doors open and close easier with the bottom connector -

Does this set have adjustable ride height or not? Everything else I love, all of the flame yellowish orange recolors, the new 12 tooth clutch gear, the new suspension arms, the orange changeover catch, the black shock absorbers the door mechanism, the paddle shifter. the gearbox , all of it! :) -

but the front has small CV joints :( the rear is probably just a solid axle + axle joiners I wonder how the doors are opening without catching on each other, i doubt theres a double hiinge mechanism and there's no 0.5L gap like in 42110 -

I'm chuffed about that :DD I wonder if this new connector will have the number '7' but it would probably make more sense to have this new connector as well as future similar ones to have the numberings as being 13,14,15 so that they kinda is a resemblance to the number 3 4 and 5 connectors but still a distinct difference -

I have portal hubs with brick built fake disk brakes, ill PM the file if interested, yes it looks like this set has the same wheel hubs as 42143. edit: oops, I meant planetary/audi hubs, my modded 42177 will have these, probably planetary hubs. -

yeah, I feel like adding some round tiles on top of the yellow conrods would have helped I'm glad it has these parts to be honest however, because I don't have them yet so it makes the set a better parts pack. I didn't get 42110 and I regret it (though I have the parts to build one in white and another in yellow), So I'm getting it and modding the crap out of it! -

I think the set is aroud 49/50 studs long (without the spare wheel and its holder which adds another 5+1L, so its around 2cm loner than 42110 but I could be wildly off. -

Well, firstly, its only AWD if there's at least 1 center differential, otherwise its 4WD. Second, you can still have a cemtral diff but have a 2wd/AWD selector. Third, I don't know if this set has a center differential (I hope so). A locking center diff would make it 4wd if locked, if the rear and center diff is locked then it will still be 4WD but with no slip on the rear diff since the center differential would be driven by the engine and gearbox. -

Then I will be very angry. But I think there will be some sort of gearbox -

SNIPE replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Actually I think the third lever in the cabin is for to choose between 4wd and 2wd mode. So if combined with the hi/lo selector we get the following modes: Hi4wd (or AWD if there is a center differential) hiRwd lo4wd (or AWD if there is a center differential) loRwd Foward/neutral/reverse will be available for any of these modes. The trouble is that the 42110 land Rover had 2 ways of engaging neutral (one for the DNR selector, and one tor the hi/po range selector) so surley the 2/4wd selector won't have a THIRD way of engaging neutral. So the next question is where is the gear selector in the cabin -

So, the good: Love the color and asthetic New tyres Rear diff lock (yay) Probably will have a gearbox but I want more than 4 speeds DNR selector looks to be present HiLo selector also looks to be present (unless its an 8 speed gearbox maybe) Opening bonnet with prop sticK Suspension all round Steering wheel also steers with the HOG dial/wheels 5 opening doors rather than 3 (not sure if its a 5 or 7 seater) 4 wheel drive engine with new engine parts now the bad: No fake disc brakes No locking front diff No cenral differential that I can see No adjustable ride height No winch No built in points to add motors No flappy paddle shifters Wheel arches could have been covered with the new 1x2 tile with diagonal cutout (5091+5092) + some normal tiles -

Technic Parts We Would Find Useful
SNIPE replied to gyenesvi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree that you can sort of join 2 pins together using a bar , and that bars are useful, but a 4L friction pin would still be more reliable.
