Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Retro replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well, 75146 Advent Calendar had a Slave 1, for example. I think if you go onto the Brickset website and search by 'Slave 1', for example, it will list all available versions of that ship. Obviously availability, cost and so on of retired sets is another kettle of fish. -
Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Retro replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think the smallest official models would be the micro-builds that you get in the Advent Calendars or variations that are 'free' with the Lego Star Wars comic. -
I'm sorry you don't have many bricks. Hopefully this will improve in the future. I don't think there is anything that really needs to be 'improved' in the model. If your question is about making a model more 'popular' for the competition, I think that's a different question. And remember everyone only had two votes, and the standard was quite high. There is certainly a preference for models made out of real bricks, for various reasons. This doesn't help you, I know. It would have been nice if there had been more voter interest from other forums like Sci-Fi and Ninjago. But If I were to summarise the voting pattern that did happen, I would say the voters liked a lot of intricate details and greebling, and also leaned towards a traditional, othodox Star Wars aesthetic.

Sorry for the necro-bump, but I saw this in the flesh at Brick FĂ©ile in...wherever it was...on Saturday and it's incredibly impressive! Loved the Plant Monster attack model too, especially The Flash's speed lines. How do you keep these models intact for years without a) needing the pieces for something else and b) getting them overwhelmed with dust!

Hi, yes, I saw this in the contest. Nice and packed with details. I could see it speeding around the diplomatic district on Coruscant. Will you build it with real bricks?
-
So, you hold one of the bears, swing the chain, and hit your opponent with the other bear, right? I love it. It's something profoundly silly, done with great skill and seriousness.

That's not a bad idea. It's a little bit reminiscent of your HMS Dionard actually...

Now that the Landspeeder Contest is finished, I thought I'd throw my three builds together in one post on the basis that Watto's Junkyard is a bit of a niche sub-forum...

Yeah, this is great. I don't know what to make of the shocked expressions on their faces. I mean, the circumstances of the game probably don't warrant looking so shocked! So there's a kind of intrigue to the scene, where you wonder what's going on...

Well, I much prefer the original submission with its austere colour palette. (I mean, I wouldn't buy it anyway because it doesn't have any Ewoks. A treehouse needs Ewoks!).

What would you like from a Sci-Fi Racing theme?
Retro replied to Henchmen4Hire's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Well, I suppose I could re-post these here as they sort of fit the idea. I like the idea of basically identical shapes with different colour schemes (I used to like formula one before it became a bit rubbish), but I also like the aesthetic of Wacky Races and Cannonball Run where anything goes. Probably difficult for official Lego sets to satisfy us here. The balance between vehicles being creative enough to appeal to you and me but sturdy and cheap enough to be played with by children might be hard to achieve. -

[Factions Ep.2][L14-Vanik-CS] Speeder Bike Race on Vanik [I18 - Lipsec]
Retro replied to MKJoshA's topic in Factions Archive
Well this is just very nice. That crowd is pure Star Wars. The figures from the AT Hauler are great here for upping the alien quotient. The hoops are great of course. Somewhat quidditch-y. -

[Factions Ep. 2] [R6 - Felucia - CFS] Old Republic Sith Wheel Bike Patrol - Q5 - Feena

Hmmm. I understand what you're trying to do. It just seems to me, on observing the site over the last few months, that; 1. There are very high quality creations (not by me) in Factions and Watto's Junkyard that are not getting the audience they deserve. For many years I didn't look in those sections at all, as I assumed they were for 'someone else', and I think that is true for a lot of people. At the same time, some run of the mill posts get 1k+ views in the Main Forum. I think the models in here deserve greater exposure, even if it doesn't generate more comments. And at the moment, the 'personal interaction' here is still only a handful of comments - they could almost be communicated just by emailing the photos between friends. 2. In general, Star Wars seems under-represented on the site. I don't know- maybe the interest is not there. But last time I looked there was no Star Wars representation on the Front Page at all, even though we know that Star Wars Lego is best ;) 3. Anyway, keep up the good work! -
They do. They're fine. Yeah, we once lost Ghost Rider in the Millennium Falcon gun tower for about two years.

Hi MKJoshA, thanks for all your hard work with this. In the Voting Thread, is there any chance you could change the picture of my CAT B in the voting to a picture of the finished model? Just for lazy-bonses who don't click on the individual threads. No worries if you can't. (Cue everybody trying to change their pictures...)

Ninjago Polybag Contest - Voting
Retro replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Speaking as a non-contestant, I would say...cast your own votes! -
I dont know if you necessarily want a reasoned argument, but here goes anyway. Please note that this is just a subjective debate about toys and hobbies at the end of the day, and of course it doesn't matter two hoots what someone wants to collect. Its a free world. Firstly, whereas something like Lego Modular has similarities to Ikea and architectural scale models, Constraction basically involves playing with dolls. Which is not what most AFOLs got out of their 'Dark Age' for. It feels a bit too close to Barbie. Now I know at the same time collecting minifigures is considered cool in some quarters. But I suppose they benefit from smallness and cuteness and the fact they traditionally came in cool houses or spaceships. Secondly, Constraction is more closely related to Technic than System. And, if you're a System fan, used to making scale models of coffee shops or castles, Technic is a bit too close to Meccano and mechanical engineering, and gears and levers and so on, which don't hold any attraction.
-
That is very, very, very clever. Well done!

Can we please have Galactus next?
-
Hi, I suppose it depends what you are going to build. Assuming it is 'system' Lego models (as opposed to Technic) you will want a lot of plain plates and bricks as well as a selection of slopes/curves and 'greeble' type pieces for drainpipes/handrails/space ship parts. I've never used Bricklink for parts. I buy sets and take them apart for parts. Creator is good for plain bricks. Speed Champions are good for slopes/curves. Star Wars is good for 'greebles'...

Jurassic World 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion
Retro replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Licensed
We have, I believe, the European HQ of Google, Facebook and Airbnb, and a 425 (ish) year old university in my city. But we have no Wal-Mart, no Lego Store, no LEGOLAND and no Mom and Pop shops. And very few discounts of any kind. Certainly nothing like the discounts I've seen on holidays in Germany. This is all good I suppose because I save a lot of money by not buying too much Lego... -
I'm pretty sure that's an airspeeder not a landspeeder. But wait...it has a flying height limit of 10m, so that's ok! It looks very sleek and powerful, anyway. I'd like to have a real life one of these.
