Fake LEGO pirates : general discussion

Recommended Posts

Actually I think the King of the Seas would be good as an imperial ship if you replaced the minifigs, sails, and modified it a bit. The blue and white patterned bricks and the blue cannon bases are pretty cool.

Edit:

Looking at all the actual knock-offs that are almost EXACTLY like lego and the terrible minifigs really does disgust me, but for some sets the actual IDEA is ok and I would buy if it was by lego (with better minifigs, etc.)

Pirate Trading Post type thing

And I like the military idea. I know they are horrible (missiles on a tank?), but the concept is good:

Tank

Heli

Navy Ship

Srry that the last three pics aren't pirates.

Just seen this from a company called 'sluban' it's even worse than enlighten :pir-sick:

I actually quite like it, the fence piece is nice, the torsos seems to have intresting print. I wish we could have a review of that. And the brickbuild Palmtree or tree is just :pir-wub: Oh, and who can forget about those chromed swords and pistols? :wub_drool:

Otherly than that, i admit its pretty poor looking set, but i wish to see a review of that.

Thanks Weil for informing us about Sluban.

Thanks Rhynix and Tristan for showing us new fake sets.

Today, I'm going to make a review of Enlighten Skeleton Hamlet...another AWFUL set of Enlighten.

Front of the box:

1311241499.jpg

Back of the box:

1311241647.jpg

This is one of the worse Enlighten sets i have seen. Other Enlighten sets have good points, but this set not. Some accesories that would be nice were already included in other Enlighten sets, so i won't include them as good points.

Let's begin with the bad points:

Minifigs are really awful, ugly, nasty, etc. Just look:

309-3.jpg

Why the captain has a bra? I guess Enligten tried to draw stripped clothes in his torso, but it seems a bra.

309-4.jpg

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARLG!!! I can't look this guy's face...is so awful, so ugly...when i see that minifig, i feel i'm going to puck :pir-sick:

the other minifigs are awful too, but not as awful as the guy with red bandana:

309-5.jpg

309-6.jpg

And the jolly roger is copied of an old Playmobil pirate ship:

7d1091080dc273c47b68b0bb985abc81o.jpg

That's all...next time i'll make a review of a Sluban set...but i'll continue making reviews of Enligten sets if i can

First of all, my greeting to all fans of LEGO:D

i'm from Ukraine(so sorry for my bad English:D)

I'm also big lego fan. I have my first lego set at the 7-th birthday, so my lego experience is nearly 15 years:D

But, sometimes ago, i have to present all my collection to my cousin sister:D

I always was a fan of lego pirates series, but all new lego pirates set are :

1) Crappy

2) Expensive( especially in Ukraine, for some reason :|)

So were was I? Oh yeah!

Almost a two weeks ago, i spotted some cloned Lego sets from the "enlighten brick".

This was pirate series. Because i was impressed by the last part of PotC, i decide to buy it, just for fun or more accurately for my own desire :D

After reading some review of it from this site, i spotted that our Chinese friends make a lot of work, and now most of earliest problems were solved.

So, lets begin from the bad spot :

1) They still got some hi-tech rifle.

2) There still some ugly troll faces

3) they still have some torso-to-leg comparison problem.

4) No back print on torso :(

Now good news :

1) Plastic looks more properly and more qualitatively

2) They solve some color problems

3) More detailed stuff. Cannons no works like on the old lego series, they shoot :D!!!!

4) Brick now more easier to assemble

So i post here some photos? most of them maybe crappy, but, i promise if someone ask i will try to make some new photo.

Welcome to the website Bulko!

Could you please resize your pictures to a maximum of 800 x 600 please? At this larger size, they can take a long time to load. There is a link to a tutorial if you need it in my signature. :pir-classic:

Hi Bulko! Welcome to the place and thanks for the pictures.

It seems to me that we almost need to divide the sets into two distinct parts; figures and bricks. The figures are certainly lacking when compared to the real Legos, but the bricks are not too terrible. Do those of you who have actually compared them in real life agree with this?

I think you can compare their bricks with the first bricks of Lego.

I believe that, once their into the market, they'll grow, just like Lego did, and will be able to give better quality of bricks (and hopefully figures too).

We just have to give them the time, like Lego had.

Wellcome Bulko.

I totally disagree with you about 2009 Lego pirate sets are Crappy...they are worse than the 1989-1997 if we talk about construction, but minifigs are better.

In any case 2009 Lego pirate sets are better than most Enlighten sets. 2009 lego pirate minifigs had back print in the torso, really cool faces, some of them had epaulets, etc...while Enlighten minifigs hadn't back print and some of them had troll faces, like you said.

About construction...Soldiers fortress and Shipwreck Hideout are better than skeleton hamlet...

and Brickbeard's bounty is much better than all enlighten ships except to "the black pearl" and "adventure"...but both Enlighten ships are copies of Black Seas Barracuda.

To be sincere, i didn't like that small ships you have posted...they are even worse than the Cross bone clipper...i see they have mechanical oars and i find it silly. But i must admit i like some enlighten accesories like the treasure map, the yellow parrot, the blue tricorn, captain's hats(all of them are different than lego's captain hats), chromed swords, etc.

You said Enlighten had improved...i think enlighten doesn't already exist because lego complained about they were copying original Lego sets and concept, and LEGO won a default action ordering the destruction of the shipment.

I completely disagree, the bricks are awful. Clutch power is highly variable, in many cases too strong, not allowing them to be taken apart easily (even with the aid of the lego brick separator). Then some bricks are completely loose. They have super sharp corners which in the process of just building one ship, I cut my fingers (with minimal bleeding) twice. The sails are appalling quality, cheap material with frayed edges, and printing that soaks through to the other side in many places.

I completely agree, I think the 2009-2010 Pirate wave was great particularly the minifigures. Definately superior to the 1996-1997 wave.

I wondered about this but I assumed it was far inferior to Lego.

What I don't get is why these rival companies insist on ripping of Lego sets. Copying the bricks is all very well there's nothing to stop them now the patents have expired but I don't see why they don't come up with sets of their own. By ripping of existing or previous Lego sets they make themselves seen as a clear cheap Lego knock-off rather than a seriour competitor and also makes them open for lego to successfully take fully justifable legal action that they could otherwise avoid.

No worries. The sets are tempting given the lack of availability of non-licensed Lego Pirates. Some of the photos of the sets give a very misleading impression about them. If you look at some of the pics Bulko provided you can see the vastly inferior quality sails and also notice how shabby some of the bricks look for new bricks.

My building experience was completely frustrating with the one ship I built, all those little things you take for granted with lego come to the forefront of your mind pretty quickly, like string that doesn't come apart as soon as you try to thread it, sections falling apart in your hands as you build, and not being injured as you build!

The minifigs, besides often having bizarre looking faces are exceptionally poor quality, arms are loose, headgear is often either near impossible to get on or so loose it comes off with even the gentlest playing.

If many of these sets were made of genuine lego I'd buy them in a heartbeat, but after my experience I'll never go near one again.

I just found another pirated set from TLC, this one is just horrible!

It was certainly clever of those viking-pirates to build their base on Scurvy Island; no one would want to look for pirates there...

I don't know whether to :pir-laugh: or :pir_bawling: when I see one of the greatest pirate sets ever made ripped off like that. But there's a lot that's funny about these fakes. The original Pirates line was anachronistic, certainly, but Viking pirates wielding assault rifles? Soldiers in inexplicable top hats? It's a strange world these people live in...
