FireHawk302

Amazing Armory review.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I just got my AA order yesterday and wanted to do a quick review, so here goes.

Here's my order.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2713.jpg

Small, but it was still $43!

The guns.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2714.jpg

Its hard to see in my horribly rushed pictures, but there is a huge amount of color variance. Two are a silvery-metal color, while the other two are almost black, and if you look closely, you can see some very small defects, such as air bubbles. They also appear to have a rushed paint job...

It's hard to tell, but this one is just about black.

You can really see the detail in this pic, and you can see what I mean by a rushed job.

Comparing the two lighter guns. Just so you can see the variance in them.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2717.jpg

Comparing a dark and a light one. That's not just a trick of the light...

Moving on to the vests.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2718.jpg

Awesome detail! But again, you can see variations in color. Two are pretty close to LEGO dark tan, while the other two are much lighter, and don't quite match light or dark tan. Kind of strange, hmm...

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2719.jpg

You can really see the color variations here. You can also see some of the crazy detail HAZEL put in there.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2720.jpg

Stud on the back.

Moving on to the helmets.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2721.jpg

These as you can see have no color variation. Why can't the vests be the same color as these? That makes no sense...

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2722.jpg

Here you can see that they are a perfect match to LEGO light tan. Again, if the helmets can be a perfect match, why not the vests?

One of four minifigs I've made using the parts from this order.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2726.jpg

A neat little box the guns and vests were in. The helmets were by themselves in a separate bag.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2727.jpg

lol

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/firehawk...ry/img_2728.jpg

This is the bag the helmets were in. each item was in it's own bag like this one, just different sizes.

So, here's my final thoughts.

Colors: Too much variance. If they would stay consistent they would be great, I really like the metal color of the guns, but I don't know which shade is correct with so many variations. 4/10.

Items: 7/10. The guns had a lot of small air bubbles, and a rushed looking paint job. Could be better, but all the crazy detail makes up for it.

Shipping: 7/10. Slow, but good packaging.

Overall: 8/10. Good items, but the variations and tiny defects need to be worked out.

Thanks for reading folks!

Looks great but please resize your pictures, the Site Guidelines only allow a maximum of 800x600 and your pictures are just way bigger then that.

Thanks!

I wouldn't want to use this kind of quality mixed with my Lego. The amount of detailing also doesn't really fit well with Lego as well - in my opinion. And it certainly wouldn't be worth $43 just to 'dress up' four minifigs to me.

I have removed the deeplink of these mega images, and request you to refer to this tutorial in case you don't know what's image resizing all about.

These mega pictures are causing extreme slow downloading for many of our members including myself.

Thanks.

The pictures are not the best, but that does not look like 43$ to me. :hmpf_bad:

I think its Aussie dollars, no? Else you seriously overpaid these items IMHO.

It are Bricklink dollars, which are still American as far as I know  . I just checked: four vests or four helmets are $13 and one of those guns is over $4.

I agree. No offence, but IMO, you got ripped off.

His products are excellent. I received a few to give away in a contest and the quality is fantastic, the price not so much.

I agree with everyone else, while the parts are pretty neat looking, the are quite expensive. I think I'll just stick with BrickArms and BrickForge for all of my minifig 'dress up' needs.

Thanks for the review!

I personally don't think that these are of a good quality. From what I can see on your pictures, the lines look choppy and rounded, and there is a large amount of excess plastic all over the parts, much unlike BrickArms and BrickForge.

Of course, they are crazily detailed, but I also don't like that because they don't fit well into the LEGO universe.

Thank you very much for the review FireHawk302. I have one of the "Fantasy M4's" and I back you up on on your thoughts on the quality of the weapons.

Indeed the amount of detail put into each Amazing Armory weapon is amazing - sorry had to say it  the lack of polish on each part is somewhat disappointing.

It is apparent that the master sculpts had little refinement and were cast close to raw. It is not hard to see why so many parts have been produced in such a short

period of time.

I purchased around 100 dollars of accessories which pretty much covers all of the accessories except for the Gears of War stuff - Killzone fan here :classic: I also have

HAZEL's flagship product the "Jin Roh" figure. Overall I am pleased with the parts, but minor details bug me. For example the gas masks on both the Killzone and Jin-Roh

helmets aren't symmetrical or even level. They sit slightly crooked on a LEGO head.

Comparing the quality of the parts to say Arealight the difference is well rather stark. Although I am speaking from personal preference. Arealight's, Brickarms, and Brickforge's

parts and accessories have all gone through a stylistic evolution from real world aesthetics to the LEGO look we all adore during their respective design processes.

I can understand that everything is produced by hand, but after experiencing the care and love that Arealight puts into his hand cast parts, AA parts just don't seem LEGO-y

enough. However I wouldn't say that over detailing is necessarily a bad thing. I am actually quite fond of added detail on minifigs such as the Cloud City Boba Fett, which is why

I enjoy custom minifigs.

I would recommend getting either the Chrome or Black anime weapons pack though.

The sculpt for the Knife and the pistol is pretty damn good, and would work well for any Sci-Fi MOC. My beef is with the machine gun/ rifle weapons, they aren't held very well

in the hands of a minfig, and just look out of proportion.

What I believe defines a great custom piece/ figure is striking a balance between detail and simplification - a task that is very challenging to accomplish but is one greatest joys of

minifig customisation.

Right, and although that remains a matter of personal preference, I think most agree that what is reviewed here is too detailed to be used with official Lego products. From what I've seen here - I've never ever ordered a custom yet - is that Brickarms and Brickforge (for example) do a much better job at 'Lego-izing' their custom parts.
