Feuer Zug Posted January 6, 2019 I got the 3 way switch from TrixBrix and couldn't really think of what to do with it until I thought about building an engine shed. Using spare parts from lots of garage & trunk sale purchases, I came up with the building shown below. It has a 48x60 stud footprint. It encompasses 3 bays, with one being a full run through. The middle bay is long enough to hold the Emerald Night and tender, barely. The small bay can hold a diesel engine on a normal 28 stud long frame. In the machine shop section, there is a hydraulic press, band saw, and lathe (all based on Brick Mania designs) as well as my own drill press. Storage and other parts can be found around the train shed, to include an oxy-acetelyne setup and wheeled toolbox. The middle track has an overhead gantry crane as well. This is the layout I currently have. It consists of a diverse section of industry, town, and other elements. There are 4 passenger stations including the infamous Platform 9 3/4 (Upper middle behind the Town Hall). One station is based on the American midwest (upper right corner). It lights up with a battery powered LED setup in the roof. The Emerald Night with a second class coach MOC is taking on water. The German styled Haupbahnhof is in the lower left and has an ICE and RB on Gleis 1 & 2. A platform station is located to the right of the hauptbahnhof is generic enough that it could be anywhere. The newest passenger train is stopping there. Between the two is a yard with a car loading facility for the autorack. There are two intermodal facilities in the upper section along with a small grain elevator and warehouse.
Pdaitabird Posted January 6, 2019 Nice layout! I really like the SNOT doors on the shed - you've given me some inspiration for the (much smaller) shed I've been planning.
Cosmik42 Posted January 7, 2019 Nice design! I have that stuff on its way to me too!
Roadmonkeytj Posted January 7, 2019 (edited) I'm so jealous of your "space" lol fine looking build and plenty of trains.  Looks like it could be a fun operation session. Any chance for better pictures of your "tool room" on your shed Edited January 7, 2019 by Roadmonkeytj
Feuer Zug Posted June 13, 2021 Update time. I've expanded my train shed to 64 x 64 footprint (4x 32x32 baseplates). This extension allows 10277 Crocodile to fit completely within the doors on the run through track. Additionally, I widened the space between the stalls so I don't have to use flexi-track to get trains and rolling stock inside. The inside track is still flexi-track because I have so much of it. Besides, when rigidly connected to the baseplates, they work fine for this purpose. Other improvements include the roof. I acquired enough plates to finish it in one color and made it easy to remove now. On the exterior, I placed various items to give it a working look. Signal towers, stacks of pallets, a dumpster, and more. The final touch was adding the blue Stop track protection signs to the rails.

zephyr1934 Posted June 13, 2021 Looking good! With all of the yellow and red (plus classic windows and doors), that has the feel of something that might have appeared in the trains idea book 7777

The additional windows do help the external aesthetic. In a way, you are correct about it being something similar to the Idea Book 7777 era. The outside could almost have been built with parts from that time (the dark bley roof would be different). I think most of the parts could be that old too. As mentioned originally, most of the parts came from used collections I picked up over the years.
Dav1d Posted June 15, 2021 I see it was a way of using flexi - track.
