Heroica RPG - Quest #129: Flying the Coop

Recommended Posts

"What exactly do you know? What are you not telling us?"

Hoke pounds the butt of the Flagpole on the wooden floor.

"Bonapartes! One at a time. If there is danger here, it's best we act quickly, so that your fellows safety can be assured, and the devils that did this can be sent back to the hell from which they came."

16742072489_8bc21f8d19_t.jpg

'<What do you know? What have you not told us? Heheh. Funny hero.>'

He looks at Terrin, a bit guiltily after having had so much fun hitting him earlier, and puts his hand on the kid's shoulder. Hearing Reina speak, he drops the Totem to the floor, then reaches out to put the now-free hand on her shoulder as well.

"Some kind of mind control. It was the mage who killed your friends, not you." He says diplomatically. "Now listen to the shiny man."

17066900886_3eb34fb359_t.jpg

"Mind control? This is ridiculous! How could this have happened? I've got such a..headache..."

16905304020_2da4543d8c_t.jpg

"Me too, but grin and bear it. The Rear Admiral has been acting strangely these past few weeks...but this?"

15152438708_e96c7b4d48_t.jpg

"He's been keeping a close eye on everyone...demoting all my friends from the farm out of his division. He kept talking bout loyalty. He's been afraid of something for a while."

17091358932_836879a5c2_t.jpg

"He's had me burning all our mail for...as long as I can remember. I don't know why I did that. He said nothing must leave the fort."

There's a long, uncomfortable silence in the room.

15152438708_e96c7b4d48_t.jpg

"Crap. So...we're prisoners, too? Like the actual ones? My head hurts." He frowns and rubs his head, then his eyes light up in terror. "Wait, where's Morgan?? Did you see Morgan on your way in? Sem's balls, did we kill her too???"

16472710423_3f29373387_t.jpg

"Don't see her...chill Henry, I'm sure she's fine."

15152438708_e96c7b4d48_t.jpg

"I hope so....if anyone knows what's going on here, she would! She's so smart."

17066900886_3eb34fb359_t.jpg

"Also crazy about the cause....but yes, smarter than the rest of you, to be sure. Wasn't she in charge of the prisoners?"

16905304020_2da4543d8c_t.jpg

"Last I recall. But that was weeks ago. Who knows where she is or what she's doing now...but she's loyal to a fault. I'm sure Melville found a use for her in the fort." Gregor furrows his eyebrows and turns to the heroes. "But maybe we shouldn't talk so freely. You have our thanks for saving us, but what exactly are you here for?"

'<What do you know? What have you not told us? Heheh. Funny hero.>'

"Useless," Hoke mutters under his breathe.

Torc stares down the coy feline, trying to decide if it would make a tasty snack or not.

"At this point, I don't think it matters. Your comrades lay in their bunks murdered and most likely feasted upon by that vampire. The real question is whether or not you want to survive whatever is going on?"

Unequip Dog Fur Coat, equip Peacekeepers Totem, use Diplomacy:

"What do you mean, 'maybe we shouldn't talk so freely'? Who do you think's going to overhear?" Erik says to Abe, missing the insinuation that the Heroes are up to no good, before turning back to Terrin.

"I'd assume these prisoners you mentioned are being held for something normal, except for the fact that you were all being mind-controlled by a vampire, who seems to have been in league with the Rear Admiral. Either way, it sounds like they're our best bet for finding Morgan. Maybe you can tell us more about them?"

Follwing Erik's reasoning, Hoke addresses the Bonapartes again.

"Seeing that somehow this happened while the Rear Admiral and the vampire fellow were here," Hoke says as he points to the feasted upon corpses, "Are you sure you sure you imprisoned those fellows in your right minds and for the right reasons. Do you even know WHY they are locked up in your cells? To be murdered by minions to wind up a vampire's dinner?"

I will start autorolling tomorrow.

17091358732_b886ce919c_t.jpg

"Four of them. The short one, the green one, the orange one, and the-....hmm. I can't quite remember what the last one looked like. There were supposed to be five, but that one slipped off before we could catch her...I think?"

17066900886_3eb34fb359_t.jpg

"Yes, that's right. I think I can recall."

17066900886_3eb34fb359_t.jpg

"Of course not! The crew of that ship has been on the Bonaparte's radar for years now. Henry here has dealt with them a number of times. They're criminals, smuggling and failing to fill out the correct docking forms. Why wouldn't we keep them here?"

Guts shook his head, Bonaparte soldiers were known for being exceptionally stupid, this wasn't going to go anywhere anytime soon. "We're going to be moving on. Soldiers, can you help us or not? If not, I want you to stay here until one of us tells you otherwise, don't listen to your officers, at least not one of the 'new' ones like the vampire here. That's an order coming from a Captain, you hear me? And cover up your dead colleague, for Helvetia's sake."

The Alchemist opened the door, ready to go to the Lookout Tower.

17066900886_3eb34fb359_t.jpg

"Yes sir. If we don't go through the proper channels we're nothing more than a mercenary group. Er. No offense."

"Let's be about this business. Standing here in denial of what is going on is no help to your fellow Bonapartes."

17091358732_b886ce919c_t.jpg

"You'd rather us go down and shoot all our friends? We're not in denial, just...we're not trained for this, and we don't have anyone of rank to lead us. Except for the group of mercenaries who are in here for unknown reasons."

15152438708_e96c7b4d48_t.jpg

"They're heroes, Reina. I think."

"I see. Sounds pretty routine, but still, you said Morgan was in charge of them? If you can tell us where they are being held, that might help us find her."

"Sorry....everything in the past two days' a real blur."

17066900886_3eb34fb359_t.jpg

"I remember that we had to split them up."

Guts shook his head, Bonaparte soldiers were known for being exceptionally stupid, this wasn't going to go anywhere anytime soon. "We're going to be moving on. Soldiers, can you help us or not? "I think we'll, uh, stay here for now. Feel like we'd just be getting in your way way. If you see Morgan, please tell her I'm up here?"

The party leaves the Bonapartes soldiers to their own devices and head for the lookout tower. It's relatively intact, but the stone stairs feel oddly unstable and wobbly. At the top, the heroes can see nothing but the blackness of the ocean surrounding the grotto.

OOC: Erik's items in Hybros' inventory should've also had their values doubled a few times.

Hybros attacks Earthwyrm J from the back row with Zoot's Reaper and uses Potions as necessary.

Same Battle Order.

"Impressive work, Captain, heheh. Where did you learn to fight like that?"

"You'd rather us go down and shoot all our friends? We're not in denial, just...we're not trained for this, and we don't have anyone of rank to lead us. Except for the group of mercenaries who are in here for unknown reasons."

"If your friends are doing what you have done to your other friends, I would think it would pertinent to stop them, as we just stopped you. Not asking you to kill them at all, but maybe a vampire or necromancer or two."

Erik looks out into the blackness.

"Huh, nothing unusual. I was thinking there might be more zombies here, or something. Should we head to the laboratory now?"

He turns back towards the staircase leading to the lookout tower, but then stops and looks around, curious as to whether the dragoon had ended up accompanying the party to the lookout tower, or had been left behind at the barracks.

I got the impression we were ready to keep exploring, but if people wanted to chat more with the soldiers we can go back.
