I think nobody interested in Technic would disagree.

At least TLG should give us more variety in cars, not only in scale but also car types. Older cars would be way more interesting and could also boost cool features.

For example big Audi Quattro from 80s with front mounted inline 5 engine and some sort of limited slip diff, Corvette convertable with retractable roof, Citroen 2CV with pneumatic suspension, .... even just a "normal" car with front mounted engine and front wheel drive would be more interesting than the 20th supercar with V8...12 engine in the back.

On the bright side, we get 20+ technic sets every year now. Even when half of them are cars, we got 10 sets that are not :D

It was Citroën ds, wich had the pneumatic suspension:).

Yeah, this. If it's got to be cars, at least make those more varied and more interesting. +1 for older cars and also I think off-roaders are underrepresented nowadays (I have the feeling that there used to be more a decade ago), and they are opportunities for more interesting and challenging suspensions and drivelines. At least some of this year's cars represent good direction, like the Bronco. Keep that up!

If it has to be more cars, maybe an update for 8070, that had some cool features, like the doors and opening features.

At that time, people bashed it because it had those "gimmicky" gearbox-based motorised functions instead of a gearbox dedicated to an engine transmission and manual functions.

That, as well as seeing how 8275 is appreciated nowadays and equally bashed when it came out, makes me think people will look back with fondness for the sets being launched nowadays.

But i wonder. Since lego wants to make cars. Why they can't make a interesting van model. Since they have mercedes license. I think about 130€ sprinter with independent suspension at the front, live axle at the back, 2009 crane truck style crane and with working dump bed. That would sell like hot cakes. To casual car fans(who don't want a full supercar collection) and some technic fans:).

If we're talking about commercial vehicles with cranes and dump beds, TLG is making plenty of them. If we're talking about normal vans with no fancy functions, it's the same reason as why they don't make common cars that you see on the street every day: those don't have the fast-thing appeal of supercars and racecars, nor they have the rugged appeal of offroaders.

I agree that having a normal family car or even a normal van would be a real fresh breath to the endless line of fast cars but I don't see it happening. Seems that everything has to have some superlatives attached to it these days, be it fastest, biggest, strongest or whatever. There's no marketing appeal in normality.

If there would be a public demand for Van...Be sure that you would already see that van on the Lego shelves in stores. I speculate if we will ever get a van it should be either icon of pop culture (A-Team, Home Alone, Dumb and Dumber (lol), etc), or maybe a camper van could sell better than Emirates Yacht.

Just look at all the technic MOCs people are doing. How many vans do you see? Simple as that. Same goes for cars in general. Tons of MOCs are cars. The distribution of MOCs is all the market research TLG needs. So the problem is not that there are too many cars. Rather the features those cars have. I wish TLG would look more into the features of MOCs people are trying to build but are struggling with because there aren't good enough solutions for. The new shorter suspension parts are a good step in this direction, because many people have been trying to build smaller cars with AWD and front suspension. I hope this trend of improving drivetrain and suspension components, especially at smaller scales continues.

In general a trend I see is that a large majority of car MOCs is RC, many at smaller scales than official RC sets, but with the current electronics components it is notoriously complicated to build smaller RC cars, even though better electronics components would technically be possible.

There were Volkwagen T1 and T2 camper vans but not in Technic. For the iconic pop culture models Technic might not be the best platform, as looks is very important and they might need lots of stuff beside the van itself and perhaps even minifigures, so I doubt Technic will ever see those.
