Well Lucas killed any chance for more red tails, saying he made "part 2" and the "first part" will be made by Spike Lee.

Well, we can be certain Lucas isn't writing it, as he says he's retiring in the article below:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/magazine/george-lucas-red-tails.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2

I must say, it's a strange shock. Yes, he's getting old, but he's made some amazing movies, and despite all the things people hate about some, they were revolutionizing in several ways.

I couldn't agree more - he really put in an extra hand in shaping the universe he created, years after Episode VI. He may not have done everybody's favorite job on it, but he was one of the first people to truly, nearly completely define a fictional universe. Though most of it was done by fans and authors, it wouldn't be as nearly as big as it is today without the prequels and the other stuff he's done.

This piece of important news deserves to be:

I can't believe this has gone unnoticed for twelve hours. Surely someone must have something to say on the matter?

Oh that is so getting blogged! Thanks for sharing, DarthSion! This is amazing, and it's only the teaser! :oh: Can't wait for the real commercial! I'm guessing, from back to front, it's: C-3PO, Ben Kenobi, Stormtrooper, R2-D2, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Leia, Luke, Yoda, Wicket. Not so sure about Kenobi, but who else could it be? Lando?

Too bad there's no Doggy Fett.

Yeah its funny and cute, but makes me wonder I thought TV ads were only 30 - 40 seconds in length that is over 1 minute.

I thought the dog in the back left had a medal which made me thing Han and Luke from ANH, I like the walk in dog as an AT-AT.

Funny commercial! My wife loves dogs, so she really enjoyed this.

It's good to see that VW is carrying on with their Star Wars partnership.

I'm not surprised George is retiring. He is almost 70 and it's not like he's going to stop milking the franchise is it? I don't buy the reason though. 'His feelings were hurt by critics' that's what happens when you release films in the public eye.

"All of the changes, from Han shooting first to Darth Vader yelling “No!” is the vision Lucas has had all these years. Technology has finally allowed him to complete his vision, and his vision is what he wants us to see and enjoy."

Dubbing words over a character in a mask wasn't possible back then. That's why Darth Vader was everyone's favorite mute character for decades. I guess that 90% of people moaning about the special editions would stop overnight if he just releases the original untouched OT in blu-ray quality as well. It's the fact he's purposely trying to ignore it that annoys most people.

Although "As for making more ‘Star Wars’ films, “Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?”" made me laugh

Well Lucas killed any chance for more red tails, saying he made "part 2" and the "first part" will be made by Spike Lee.

George Lucas has been using that excuse since 1978. I really wouldn't take it seriously.

Ugh. So now Filoni will take over TCW, huh? That will be very, very bad default_hmpf.gif .

I beg to differ. It was Lucas' influence that ruined TCW. He was the genius that though of things like the Mortis Arc, afterall. Filoni had more control earlier on- when the stories happened to not have a political base every second episode and focused more on the war- and so I think it'll be good, especially with all the new advancments.

Are you implying that the Mortis arc was bad? I have to disagree with you wholeheartedly there. That story arc featured some of the deepest themes of the entire series. In fact, despite the political nature of some episodes in the series, the series as a whole has gotten exponentially better the past few seasons.

George, by the way, has always been creatively involved in the series. I wouldn't take this announcement of his "retirement" from feature films to mean less of an involvement on TCW.

It didn't makes sense. The Force seemed more like magic in that arc, complete with magic artifact to kill magic transforming beings. The Force as originally presented in the OT was an energy field that Force-users could manipulate. In my honest opinion, Mortis was the worst addition to what we know of the Force since midi-chlorians.

On the contrary, I quite enjoyed the Mortis arc, but I know there are many out there that despise it.

Also, Lucas' involvment has been growing through the seasons, and- in my opinon- it would appear the quality of the plots have degraded in synch with that. Throughout the years, TCW has gone steadily more hit-and-miss.

Star Wars Uncut has been released. For those who don't know it's ANH but created by the fans, everyone gets 15 seconds of the film. Some clips are really well done, some are unsuprisingly terrible and others are just really weird.

It's pretty fun to randomly click around and see what scene you end up at.

Good question. I believe there used to be one, but it wasn't very popular or something. So it hasn't been posted in for ages.

Otherwise it's always okay to just talk about it in here. As this is the general SW-topic

Mitch

I want to know who's idea it was for the Lux character. In my opinion, that turned Ahsoka from being a strong, independent jedi, into the typical teen girl squad thing. It really hurt her character and the show. Maybe, it's what the fans wanted, I don't know, but that's when I knew it was time for me to stop watching.

Don't stop watching. Lux only appears every once in a while.

Yes, just as she started to turn into a likable character, they throw a spanner in the works, but that's true of all pars of TCW, you get something that looks like a great character or concept and there's little screw ups on the path every time. And I really like the show .

Does anyone know btw precisely Obi-Wan Kenobi served Bail Organa during the Clone Wars? And was it ever clarified why he did not recognize R2-D2 and C-3PO when he faced them on Tatooine?

Who's to say he didn't recognize them?

Well...I think it's pretty obvious that in 1977 noone, including Lucas and Guiness, thought that Kenobi might know the droids from his own past.

Since 1997, Guiness' acting might be interpreted differently, e. g. that he only pretended not to know them.

Well the galactic senate gave the GAR and it's Jedi Generals orders, and he may not have recognised them at first then when he saw that Artoo had found his way to Ani's son it was the will of the Force and he should keep quite. Or something like that.

Perhaps he really didn't recognize them. I'm sure that R2-D2 and C-3PO are not the only droids that look like they do.

Also, why would they be on Tatooine?
