Wellington and the British squares

Recommended Posts

So you just had the torso handy, huh? I really like it, much better than the blue with the "US" belt buckle. However, I'm contemplating whether white pants would have a better effect.

I'll try it with some white pants and post a picture to compare.

The US belt buckle was hidden behind a little black paper ;-) :-D

Bonaparte and oo7 are both right about Wellington.

Wellington's uniform was red, but at the battle of Waterloo he wore a blue overcoat, as seen in this picture:

However, as you said you're going for the Peninsular War, red would be more accurate.

I assume this Wellington is based on Lego-Sharpe's Wellington?

Indeed, he is based on the Wellington from the Sharpe-series.

If I remember this correct, Wellington was always wearing dark blue in this Series.

But I can't find a picture of the Sharpe-Wellington to post in this thread.

Welcome at Eurobricks Mr. Mosana.

Have you seen the Sharpe series?

Not many people on this forum seem to know it.

Can you tell us something about yourself?

Indeed, Wellington always wears blue in the Sharpe episodes. However, the Sharpe programme isn't particularly accurate, as seen especially in the episode "Sharpe's Waterloo". However, I do have a picture of Hugh Fraser as the duke.

For the record, I have all the Sharpe episodes on DVD, and have got round to watching most of them. I wargame the Napoleonic era, which is why I'm very interested in it.

Thanks for posting that picture!

How does this wargame work?

Is it with Lego or some other figs?

Did you already have a look at my Napoleonic-thread?

And you should really have a look at this incredible website based on the Sharpe-series.

I also have the Sharpe Series (bought the DVD-box on ebay), but 2 disk were broken... . So I have seen them all except 2 episodes.

The wargaming is with 1:72 scale plastic figures. I have a decent amount of Lego soldiers, but I prefer not to use them to represent real-life units. Also, I've seen your figures and they're all excellent, particularly the Napoleon and Roustam figures. I have a question, though; did the French not wear bicornes at Jena, or am I thinking of Austerlitz?

Seems like you are right. Before 1807 the line Fusilies and Voltigeurs had bicornes. Grenadiers wore bearskin. All these were replaced by shako's in 1807.

So since the Battle of Jena-Auerst

Whenever the English infantry was threatened by the French cavalry, they formed a square to protect themselves.

Four ranks deep, vulnerable to artillery or infantry, but deadly to cavalry.

(Quick now bring in the artillery while the brittish are distracted by the calvary and blow them up!)

Of course you would need a couple lines of infantry to protect the artillery, but judging by the size of your French army you shouldn't have a problem with that.

You have to make a battle scene with your two army's. It would be awesome! *sweet* *sweet* X-D X-D *y* *y*

I've got 138 Imperial Guards, 4 Officers and 1 Wellington.

I've been collecting Redcoats for two weeks and only got nine soliers! How long did it take you to get that many troops?

I think Bonaparte spend a lot of time browsing Ebay, Bricklink and other LEGO selling sites.

I've got 21 Bluecoats now from an Ebay auction and a few from Bricklink.

All you need is a huge ammount of money and patience. :pir-blush:

I collected these redcoats in the year 2006 and the first part of 2007.

In those days they were less rare as they are today and collecting them was easier.

Then I came along and bought up over 200 of them at any price :pir-devil:

Seriously, I need to update my pics here of the South Essex, but its good to see thisold thread return!

That's because you took them all and made them harder to get :pir-tongue:

Probably, but by doing that they became more expensive, so the value of my army went up :pir_laugh2:

That's awesome! I wish I had more reds like you do, I only have 9, and only 7 are fully equipped soldiers. I need a shako and admiral hat but everything is so expensive and none of my friends have legos like this left =/

Oh well..
