  1. Thanks for the feedback guys! Please note I also made a video/slide show with "Discotheque" playing in the background... turn up the volume and check it on my Flickr, here is the link ... hehe, that sounds promising! Thank you for your help!
  2. Hi, here are my votes: Matn - Tia Dalma's Shack - 2 points hammelgeier - Attack of the Kraken - 2 points (I just can't believe this is your first MOC, excellent work) Cecilie - The Fountain of youth - 1 point (nice perspective) Good luck to all!
  3. Hi, here are my votes: Blackpyre - Jack Sparrow can't escape the Classics - 3 points CorneliusMurdock - The interrogation - 2 points These 2 stories really made me laugh, well done guys.
  4. In 1997, U2 had this insane idea to build a 12 meter high mirror ball Lemon for the Popmart Tour… what’s even more insane is that it was not just a giant Lemon… the thing was motorized and could fit the entire band! I’m sure anyone who has seen 1 of these concerts remembers the climax when they come out of it and when Bono starts to sing Discotheque. I now give you the Lego version. Ok, so I know it’s a long shot but I would like to offer this MOC to the band (actually not really give it for free but I’d like to exchange if for a donation to Amnesty, Greenpeace or One.org). My way to thank them for all the good times they gave me so far…so… if you happen to be a member of U2 or you know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows a member of U2… please spread the word! This build is just as insane as the original idea… Here are a couple of fun facts: - the Lemon is a modified Bran’ sphere with a 10 studs wide core design http://lego.bldesign.org/sphere/ - the damned thing weighs +-800gr (only the Lemon) - +- 30cm height (with stand) - +- 1000 yellow plates - the lemon can be closed with the figs inside standing up just like the real deal Here’s a making-off shot… Now, unless you actually saw one of these concerts you must think that I am completely mad…so here is a reference picture to show you that they really did it. Thanks for watching, and please check my other U2 MOCs!
  5. What a fascinating topic… I have read it all, feels like reading my own story sometimes. I keep coming back to it from time to time and I have been thinking about bringing my own perspective… well here it is. Caveat: I’m not the most optimistic person on the planet when it comes to human nature. I had a DA of +- 20 years (last purchased set was Imperial Outpost 6263, gosh I still love that one), only came out about a year and a half ago – I guess it’s a pretty long DA. So much has changed during that timeframe… starting with the internet. I suppose if the net had been around back then I’d probably never have dropped the hobby. It’s my parents who kinda forced on me the idea that it was time for me to move on to something more… mature? … I know, silly, but what can you do when you are the only kid around still playing with Lego? Anyway, no big trauma here (mom, dad, I love you nonetheless I know you did what you think was best for me!), I guess I’m back in now and it’s all for the best and I’ll sure never do the same mistake with my own kid! What matters is that the essence of this discussion - being open or not about the hobby - is the same whether you are 12, 30 or 50.. it’s all about social pressure and many have described it very well in this forum. It’s just never easy to be different, period. Whether you’re too short, too tall, gay, bald, AFOL… you’re just part of a minority. The most important thing is to be understood by your loved ones, the rest doesn’t matter. The huge majority of people are just dumb and follow the mass pre-formatted way of thinking, follow the mainstream, that’s just the way it is. I suppose I should be more concerned about getting a nicer car, a job promotion, sports.. I don’t know, the things that the majority of people think is more suitable to someone in the early 30 with a decent social position. Well, I’m not really into those things – thank god I’m not obsessed with Lego either – I guess what I’m mostly into is to be creative, to find means to express my ideas, my feelings. Depending on your personality, you can look at it from different angles; you could say that we – AFOLS - are in a way “superior” to the vast majority of people because we can create – express ourselves trough means that are just out of reach of most narrow minded people. The truth is most people will ever only see Lego as a toy, and there is nothing we can do about it. You could try to explain, show the last creations from Tyler & Nannan – sure people might be impressed but the truth is no matter what they’ll say I’m convinced that best case scenario they’ll mostly feel sorry for you. Ok, sorry I had to let it all out – you’ve been warned (see the warning up there!) Back on the subject, not everything is bad though, and I am pretty open about the hobby it’s just that I don’t kid myself on what most people really think. You might then wonder – why don’t you keep it just to yourself? – well, that’s thanks to you folks. When I post something here I usually get great feedbacks – hell, to my surprise I even won a contest here! So that tells me that I’m not too bad at what I do and that I should not be ashamed of it. (I’m not saying that an AFOL that sucks big time shouldn’t advertise on his hobby, I’m just saying it’d probably be more difficult to manage in the open). So to conclude, I want to thank the community for being there and express my sympathy to whoever has trouble dealing with the social pressure towards what we do because that’s not going to change.
  6. Thanks! I'll keep that one in mind for future MOCs!
  7. Hi All, Thanks again for the feedbacks - I must say I really like the little debate around the floor, I guess this is the kind of thing that you would either like or completely dislike and no real mixed feelings. I fell in love with the technique when I saw this MOC by Legohaulic it's not the first time I try to use it myself.. but I suppose I have not yet managed to match Tyler's skills! Anyway, I just wanted to shed some light on why I did it like this - 2 reasons: * I needed an elevated floor in order to make the horse/donkey craddle lower than the rest of the scene * The horse/donkey part being round I needed a floor technique that could be adapted to the shape I'm not saying this technique is the only one that could fulfill these 2 requirements, but it does have a lot of advantages. It is completely flexible, low on pieces consumption and - to me - it is the best rendition of a mosaic floor with no real recurring patern. Now, I agree that this floor is best viewed with a lower angle and I'm not too fond of the overall shot myself - but you got to have one! My mistake was maybe to use a tan baseplate - I used it to have the donkey part in a light color but I did not realize it would make the holes in the floor more noticeable, that's what I call a lesson learned for next time. It's anyway too late for me to change anything because my 3 years old son played a little with the dio and... let's just say that I don't think TLC would have approved my design because it failed miserably the play test, it only took him 2 minutes to destroy the whole thing... ashes to ashes...
  8. No wonder we can't find any musketeers left in the shops! That's a very decent first MOC! Keep it up!
  9. Congrats to all the winners, especially to Lisqr - well deserved first place! Now you really have to share some "making off" pics!
  10. Really cool, when viewing your pics I first thought "hey, cool it's modular, you can take the roof off" but then I saw you had also made a second floor! Great job! At some point I did consider making a bunch of custom Smurf MF for the Collectible MF contest Category B - but unless I'm mistaken the gnome hat does not come in white... nor in red for that matter. maybe an idea to pursue... if TLC decides to make more colors, I think it could work, even with yellow MF heads. btw, M-block is making smurf sets now
  11. Wohoo, thanks for the great feedback guys! And thanks for blogging me, I did not see that one coming, to be honest I was a bit intimidated to post here, pirates fans are amongst the most hardcore builders and I expect some pretty awesome builds for this comp'! I have seen some very valid comments up there, I tend to agree with all of them - this MOC could have used a little extra work but I did not have the time for it, last week-end was my personal deadline for submission... Indeed, too bad there are no Lego donkeys... I did consider using this one though...
  12. Excellent MOC, excellent presentation, the color scheme, the back story... Very well done! Thank you for sharing the "making of" pics as well.
  13. Dear EB fellow members, I humbly present you my entry for the POTC contest! As I am sure you all know, this scene is taken from the first movie in the saga, "The Curse of the Black Pearl". Jack is on the run in Port Royale and is hoping to find refuge in the blacksmith workshop... Unfortunately for him Will Turner shows up a few minutes later and it all ends up in an epic duel. Instead of shooting this MOC from different angles "the usual way" I chose to try something different, more in the spirit of the movie... I hope you like it! (I also hope I got the rules right, I did not see anything against picture editing...) The design of this amazing bellows is from my friend Pixel Fox I can only post 5 pics here, but you may check some additional frames on my Flickr Thanks for watching, and good luck to all in the contest! Oh, I almost forgot, I do not claim to win anything but since the rules say we have to say it, I would have "The Mill" as prize.
  14. I must say this MOC took me by surprise, very original! I like the use of the dice tile. Well done!
  15. I think all participants should get a prize just for entering this difficult contest, congrats to all for making it! My votes: 2) House Party (Build by CorneliusMurdock) – 1 point 12) TV Program Production Studios (Build by gordongordon) – 1 point 14) Eurobricks Collectable Minifigures Series 1 (Build by Oky Wan Kenobi) – 1 point
  16. 20) Artist Entry (Build by lisqr) 2 points Simply amazing... how did you do that!? (I'm not asking you to reveal your secrets but... could I see a picture from the opposite angle? I'd love to learn more on the technique you've used) 17) Hazmat Guy Entry (Build by Diidy) 1 point Simple and spot on, well done. Good luck to all!
  17. The only place where I am allowed to display my Lego in the house is about 50x50 cm - damn, that's just too small! I would so have displayed a squadron of these...
  18. Another day, another U2 MOC! After my microscale version of the Popmart tour stage (now with an "olive" on the spear thanks to Pandora & Zorbas!)... I give you ZOO TV! ... I have another U2 MOC in preparation waiting for BL orders so stay tuned...
  19. A box of Lego at a flee market... Got if for 15€ (with the box ) The bricks appeared to be in good shape... It turns out they are in mint condition, probably assembled only once... So after a little dusting and sorting, here is what I got: There is a Nearly complete Castle of Morcia, and a few Exo Force bits from this set A good pick IMO!
  20. That is a very clever design (and a very detailed post if I may say!) Have you considered using some bricks from the colors of each serie? I don't mean to build a full orange stand for serie 4 but rather inserting some orange in it so that it's not completely black. I'm not sure how it would look like with the integration of the black MF display plates but it would give some contrast to the stands and reinforce the "series" aspect. Very well done!

Thanks for the feedback! It's my first attempt at microscale and I was a little anxious on the result! For those who are not familiar with this tour that took place in 1997, here is a picture of what it looked like... IMO they managed to top that with the 360 show, but this was still pretty impressive. I'm not sure to see what you mean... The yellow 4 stud bit on the right side of the stage is supposed to be a lemon - I hope we all agree on that! - now I don't know if the "thing" planted on the spear is supposed to be an olive, I must admit never considered it, but I needed a brick that had a hole in it to connect the lower and higher part of the spear... And I only had a yellow one in stock to do the job! Maybe I'll give a shot at the Zoo TV tour later but right now I'm working on something else...

    U2

Hi! Since I came out of my dark age I wanted to reconcile my 2 passions, U2 & Lego. So... I present you my latest MOC, a microscale version of the Popmart Tour stage, hope you guys like it! *Update* This is version 2, now with an "olive" on the spear! (Thank you Pandora & Zorbas!) Alternate angles can be seen on my Flickr. ... oh, and there is more U2 MOC coming...
  23. What a beast, and what an impressive build! For anyone not familiar with the plane, it is featured in the movie 2012 from R. Emmerich.
  24. Pretty awesome, and another clever use of these tan arch pieces! How many MOCs do you still have to make with these? Just 1tiny detail that bothers me, the ship taking off could perhaps have another color of 1x1 round thrusters, maybe trans blue or red?
  25. Great set and the MF is a nice bonus - I need at least 2! 1 as calendar for my desk & 1 for MOCing (what am I going to do with all these skateboards ...)
