Wow, that's a pretty massive excavation for a bunch of guys using only shovels! A strange mix but a great MOC nonetheless! I just wish we could see what is in that tomb!
-
Thank you guys for the feedbacks! Indeed, I have used the same technique as for my Stargate MOC - thanks for noticing KielDaMan! The whole setup is covered by a roof that includes a couple of translucid parts (in the present case there is 1 on top of the Anubis head and 1 on top of the tomb) and the lighting is achieved by pointing a Flashlight trough the translucid spots. the pictures have been taken using a reasonably decent camera but nothing too fancy, the important part is that it has a wide angle and I'm using a stand. I have also been trying to perfect the technique and learned from previous errors. For instance I now try to build my MOCs as modular as possible, the walls and roof have to be easily removable so I can move around and try different angles for the pictures. I am also trying to build by keeping in mind a single picture angle. As said earlier, the sand looks nice but I'll never try that again!

D2C Contest: Attack on the Nile
Yatkuu replied to Yatkuu's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Winning the contest was awesome, making the frontpage was the icing on the cake! Thanks again to all for your great comments! In return, and in reply to the people who have asked for instructions here are a couple of pictures from the boat' secrets: -
Awesome idea, and I really like your concept of unveiling the MOC progressively!
-
Thanks for the comments! Regarding the sand... well...let's just say that I will never try that again

Jack and his team have followed an ancient map and uncovered the lost tomb of Userkare. After a little bit of digging, Jack can finally take a first glance at the tomb’s treasures trough a crack in the wall… … while Professor Hales is examining the hieroglyphs around. Anubis is standing guard over the Pharaoh’s final resting place. Beware not to awake the ancient mysteries! (ok, I know, you all saw that one coming…) The dangers are great but so is the reward. Still in the Egyptian mood after the D2C contest I wanted to give a try at a PQ story telling MOC, hope you like it. The Anubis statue is inspired by this well known statue discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun. Thanks to my friend Pixel Fox for the pictures editing. To conclude, a bonus shot of the tomb... thanks for watching!

EB 2011 Windsor Event: Program and information
Yatkuu replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Hi! I was wondering if there is somebody coming from Belgium who is planning to go to the event by car and who would be interested to share the ride and split the costs (either for the 3 days or just for 2) Please PM me if interested! -
Design a Direct-To-Consumer (D2C) Results!
Yatkuu replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Wow… unbelievable ! I had a good feeling about this MOC from the first moment – the design idea came easily, I was able to find the necessary bricks rapidly… the collaboration with Pixel Fox, everything felt right from the start… but never, ever would I have imagined winning this contest! I just wish I could spend this prize on buying some of these amazing entries… Congratulations to the winners, Nieks, Rufus, your creations are really awesome (I don’t know about you Nieks but I have a feeling Lego should really consider making an official “Nile” oriented PQ set in their next wave!). Thank you to everyone who voted for us, being elected amongst such talented builders is real honor, more than anything this is the true prize of this competition. Thank you also to Eurobricks for having this contest and for the time the admins took to make this happen. Keep bricking everyone and thanks again! -
Eurobricks Collectable LEGO Minifigures Series 4 Building Contest
Yatkuu replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There can only be one ! Minifig: The Musketeer Every good sword movie needs a duel in the stairs, Highlander 1 is no exception. When I first saw the musketeer Minifig it made me think of Ramirez – MacLeod’s buddy played by Sean Connery. I wanted to build a Highlander MOC for a little while and this contest seemed like the right opportunity! For those of you who have not seen the movie (…it’s from 1986), this is the moment when “the Kurgan” (aka a sort of bloodthirsty giant who’s only purpose in life is to shop every head around) is looking for MacLeod to finish him off… but… when he arrives at MacLeod’s place he stumbles across Ramirez and the whole thing ends up in a duel in the stairs. Needless to say that these 2 gentleman do make a little bit of damage on their way up and the tower is about to collapse when they reach the top floor. The story unfortunately does not end well for Ramirez… nor for poor MacLeod’s wife that you can spot on the first floor fleeing for her life… -
Eurobricks Collectable LEGO Minifigures Series 4 Building Contest
Yatkuu replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Whoohoo, here we are again! Thank you EB for this great contest - and I'm glad to see LEGO did not hold any grievance from the last constest twist and is still sponsoring the event. I'm totally in for Cat A, but I must say I'm puzzled by Cat B... and I feel I'm missing something. Let me get this straight... we need to build a 16x16 vignette (so far so good) that can fit 16 (SIXTEEN! wow, you are really pushing us here!) unique and new Minifigs?? Appart from building a 16 floors vig (oh my what a picture nightmare), I do not see how to manage this without giving a cramped look to the scene! The only other option I see is to build some kind of plain stand platform... but that wouldn't really be a creative build. Also are the MF supposed to interact with each other? The rules do not mention it so I'm guessing no - but I just want to be sure... -
VOTING: Design a Direct-To-Consumer (D2C) set
Yatkuu replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Wow, I knew this comp was going to be awesome... but still, I’m amazed by the quality of the builds! And only 7 votes to give, that’s tough! #6 – Museum of Antiquities by TooMuchCaffeine – 1 point A classy build, perfect in every detail and with a nice touch of fun (love the mummy coming out of the box!) #15 – Rise of the Dread Colossus by Aanchir – 2 points A great D2C design, both elements really fit together – great job. #21 - Professor Hale’s Oasis Hacienda – 2 points This one already had my vote with the car… but was definitely worth another point for the Hacienda, brilliant! #37 – Temple assault by Unbornchikken – 2 points The picture from the voting thread is not really doing justice to the MOC (IMO), the temple really looks great when folded and has a lot of playability when opened, another great D2C design! I’ll also add that the Serpents Ruins by Sieron & Coral is a masterpiece but I’m afraid Lego would never make a set like this (no matter how much we want it!) Thanks again to EB for having this contest, good luck to all! -
Certainly a future hit amongst AFOL for the figs and nostalgia feel from Classic Space... and a hit amongst kids for the play features and the badass look!

D2C Contest: Attack on the Nile
Yatkuu replied to Yatkuu's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks guys for this great feedback, we have put a lot of efforts in this MOC and it is really nice to see that it is appreciated. The machine gun on the hovercraft was designed by Pixel Fox in Leocad (at least I think that's what he used for that one)– he actually designed a good dozen of guns but we finally settled on this one with the magnifying glass on top as it brings some “cartoon” effect to the scene. A touch of humor which fits nicely in the PQ serie. The whole experience of designing a MOC in cooperation with someone was really cool, there is always more in 2 brains than in 1 (and when it so happens that 1 of the 2 is a professional designer it gets even better!) Thanks for the compliment, unfortunately I’m really no good with LDD, but if you want I can share by PM other pics showing the structure of the hull… Thank you Aanchir for this very detailed feedback, I see you took the time to explore the build! I’m not really sure I get the difference between a Lego and a Toys ‘R’ Us one, I guess I never really compared the 2 kinds (and we don’t have Tos ‘R’ Us in Belgium ). The general idea for this set was to design something that would both match the PQ line requirements (giant animal, adventurers vehicle & Pharaoh’s structural element) and add something new to the serie (the adventurers have plenty of cars, a plane… they only miss a floating vehicle!). I also tried to incorporate advanced building techniques that you typically would not see in regular sets, in particular with the funeral boat. When it comes to designing boats, I’m no expert but I believe Lego usually tends to stick with the large hull pieces for the regular sets so I thought that if designers were asked to create an exclusive one they would explore other SNOT-based ways (I think that the Maersk ship also uses something similar). I agree with you that the hull could still be improved in particular with regards to the color coding but what you see is really a compromise between the desired shape and what’s available on the market. For instance the biconvex tan slopes from the bottom edges are not even available in official sets..; I got them from StudsOnTop on BrickLink but I have no idea where they got these from! … Maybe if Lego was to really make this set they would do it differently… Good luck to all in the contest! -

D2C Contest: The City Connection
Yatkuu replied to Tazmaniac's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Very nice build, and loaded with action! I love your snooker table, it's the first time I see an actual snooker table in Lego and not the classic pool-sized table. It is a really nice addition to a British atmosphere MOC - maybe you play yourself? -
haha, good one Alldarker.. who would have thought Lego was getting so kinky! (especially when you think that they censored our candid little contest on adults MF!) BTW, am I the only one to think that the carriage is awful? The inn and the coal's cart are nice, but the carriage...

Attack on the Nile Item #: 10607 Ages: 14+ Pieces: 811 Price: 115$ Tired of being harassed by Jack Raines and his gang, Pharaoh Amset-Ra decided to pack his treasure and leave on his funeral boat for his holiday temple down the Nile. That was without counting on the tenacity from the treasure hunters who went after him in their armed hovercraft! Determined to end this once and for all, Amset-Ra unleashes his hordes of mummies and summons Sobek the Crocodile God as reinforcement in this final battle. The funeral boat features advanced building techniques and 2 secret compartments for the Pharaoh to stash his treasure. Jack’s hovercraft is equipped with a 50cal machine gun and can accommodate his crew. Sobek is fully articulated and can carry a rider. Includes 9 minifigures, the Pharaoh Amset-Ra, 2 Anubis guards, 2 regular mummies and 1 flying one, Jack Raines, Professor Hale and Mac McCloud. If Jack and his team manages to reach the Pharaoh's boat... they should choose carefully which hatch to open! This MOC is the result of a collaboration between myself and Pixel Fox, a fellow EB member. For those of you who do not know him, Pixel Fox is a 3D artist who is doing amazing Lego computer graphics, among other realizations he has done an incredible Lego comic that is not only technically extremely well done but that also has a great scenario - two qualities that rarely go together, check it out here. Our initial plan for this contest was that I would build the MOC, Pixel Fox would give me his feedback, bring some of his own ideas and take care of creating a box art to submit in the contest. Unfortunately the contest rules were clarified a little later and we had to drop that part. We nevertheless continued our collaboration and I still consider this build as a joined entry as I would never have managed to achieve such a result on my own. Although we knew this could no longer be considered as a part of the contest we did pursue our plan of creating a box art that would mimic the official Lego ones... The outcome is a stunning artwork that can be seen on Pixel Fox’s Flickr account, believe me when I say that this is something that is worth seeing as it is taking fan created artwork to an unprecedented level (please note that if you wish to leave comments on the artwork, please do so on Flickr directly as this is not a part of our official entry).

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to post a feedback! And thanks to EB staff for the Frontpage, it's the second time I have this honour and it is really encouraging! I'll do my best to top this one with my next MOC! (...look out for my D2C contest entry! )

Fetch! That's my dog! More like this one here

Hehe... I did not think of that, but you're right!

Thanks for the feedback! Actually, the rings are supposed to be going back up in my scene! Sorry if this sounds geeky but the full sequence is supposed to be... 1.the rings come down in sequence 2 all rings are stacked on top of each other 3 The jaffas appear in the center 4 the rings go back up in sequence Long story short... if I had wanted to show rings coming down I could not have shown the figs...

CONTEST: Design a Direct-To-Consumer (D2C) set

May I ask for a clarification on the above, to what point are we allowed or not to edit the pictures, background editing, design the box art? Thanks! -
REVIEW: 7326 Rise of the Sphinx
Yatkuu replied to Bricknave's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Sorry guys I could not resist! More silly pictures like this on my Flickr -
Thank you for the great feedback! It is my fisrt MOC built for a single shot and it took me a while to get a decent picture.. To be honest I'm still a little unhappy with the result - the hidden soldiers on the left and right sides are barely visible behind their pillars. I do plan to make more Stargate scenes... when time allows! But I want to try to do original stuff.. there are already very good MOCs out there and I don't want to reproduce something that has already been done. The Anubis warriors are not chromed it's just the lighting effect. These figs are absolutely amazing... I bought the pyramid set only for them (it was either that or paying 12$/each on BL ).

Dear EB fellows, I present you my latest MOC, a scene from one of my favourite movies... Stargate. When I first saw the Anubis warriors on the PQ line I knew I had to do something like this! Credits for the tiling go to... my wife! Credits for the lighting go to Profound Whatever (as seen here)
