  1. My DA was +-20 years from 12 to 32 years old. I've been wondering.. do you guys think that the typical Dark Age that most of us have experienced could still happen to the kids today? I mean when I dropped the hobby at the age of 13 in 89’/90’ the only sets around were city, pirates & space... no internet and playing with LEGO meant sit alone in my room and show my MOCs to my mom. Nowadays, if you think that the classic lines are too childish you can switch to Super Heroes, make brickfilms with your iphone and become a star on youtube… I mean the social pressure to drop the hobby might not be as strong as what we’ve experienced ourselves and the internet community could also help a lot of fans to realize that they are not alone.
  2. Absolutely amazing... what a great hobby LEGO is. Thank you so much for sharing.
  3. Great MOC Tazmaniac, I can almost hear the zombies' moanings!
  4. I'm afraid there is nothing new in this set, the MF are pretty much the same as in the Set 4435 (car & camper).
  5. Hello! Last week I went on holiday with the German charter airline TUI and "oh surprise" they where selling this nice little exclusive set on board... so I take this as an opportunity to do my first LEGO set review. Name: Glider Number: 4442 Theme: CITY Release: 2012 (April) Pieces: 102 Figures: 2 Price: EUR €16, GB £15 Links ... Brickset ... Bricklink Availability: In-flight purchase on TUI flights and from Virgin Atlantic (UK delivery only) The box The box is very "dense", makes sense as they don't have much room in the plane to store them. Here is a comparison shot with a regular set (176 pieces). The Figs 2 nice figs, both with back printing. Cool hair pieces too. The pieces The build Here is a shot of the instruction page showing how to take the wings off. Bonus shot, comparison with 7643 (another airline exclusive) Conclusion They had me at the word "exclusive"...that being said it's a nice little set that comes with cool Figs. The plane is simple but swooshable and it would be a good addition to any LEGO airport. The car is very basic but the trailer has a clever design and the possibility to "transport" the plane adds to the playability. Overall a winner! Thanks for watching!
  6. Incredible contest *oh2* My favorite: 10. 7 points (The Getty Center by unbornchikken) I can totally see this become the next official Architecture set, brilliant.
  7. 8. - 4 points 12. - 3 points Very impressive, congrats to all participants!
  8. I think we have a winner! thanks!
  9. Wow, thanks a lot! I did not know these pieces, very good suggestions!
  10. Hello! I am currently planning my next MOC and I will need a Welder Helmet for one of my MF. Something like this Anyone has an idea of a piece I could use? Perhaps a custom accessory exists? Thank you!
  11. Gosh, another masterpiece. Brilliant, incredibly detailed build. What a contest! *oh2*
  12. Yes, I trust Belgium will from now on be famous for it’s beer, chocolate, waffles… and the LEGO version of the Winchester Tavern! I don't know if you guys have noticed but the homepage of CUUSOO has been updated. I'm not sharing this to brag but I find it interesting that they chose to use the picture of the Minifigures instead of the main view from the building. It's perhaps only a question of aspect ratio that is more appropriate for the page... but it looks really cool (also love the "Shaun" thumbnail view on the side). That's also cool for BrickArms btw, what an advertisment for their products! I mean, a custom MF holding a custom accessory on the homepage of a LEGO sponsored site?!
  13. yup, although nobody knows what this means... there are also probably tax issues to consider. I mentionned here before that I never did this for the $$... If this happens one of my ideas was to do do some contest sponsorship around the CUUSOO concept... but let's just see how this turns out first!
  14. Ha, you noticed the Cube Dudes! No, I have not posted them yet! I wanted to use them to advertise the Win in a near future... but.. I did not have the time to do it! The fact is that I wanted to clear this with Angus MacLane before I present them on any site or forum but I did not get a reply. You see, Angus has already built a "Shaun" and my version is 90% of his design so I wanted to get his input first.
  15. Hello everyone! I don't have an update to share on the project yet but anyone who is interested to read what the media say about this can check the media coverage section on makethewinchester.com... updated daily! http://www.makethewinchester.com/media-coverage/ Today we have a very nice article in the Belgian newspapers from the "SudPresse" group link to the PDF here. The story even made it onto the frontpage!!
  16. Once again, I am amazed by the level of this competition. Great job and congrats on the pictures, they are perfect. Edit: looking at the pictures again I'll also mention a very clever choice of subject. this building was begging to be made in LEGO.
  17. Thank you Larrynautik for taking the time to write this, you made my day! Very good argumentation. Si jamais LEGO me contacte et je sais pas quoi leur répondre je t'appelle! Another interesting question was discussed earlier today on Brickset and I wanted to bring the topic here too. A few days ago CUUSOO announced a revision of the project approval process, check the blog post here. While this certainly linked with the "Shaun incident" I don't buy the theory that it automatically means it is going to get a no-go. I am not surprised by these changes, they actually make perfect sense. The internal discussion on the "Win" still needs to happen (I was told it would only happen after Easter). LEGO made it clear in their initial feedback on the project: Within the Realm, but on the edge – this is where the “Win” stands. With these new guidelines they just want to make sure someone does not start posting projects that are obviously beyond this “realm of company standards”. For instance projects based on movies like “Hostel” or “Saw”, “Modern Warfare” or any other theme that would clearly be beyond the limits of what they do. If the Winchester was posted today, I still think it would pass this initial review. This new process will also help improve the overall quality of the projects posted and solve most plagiarism issues. So, good news IMO and let's not forget that CUUSOO is still in Beta so changes are to be expected.
  18. The Win was ranked 9th with 1800 supporters. The O'Brien show was the trigger but it's Simon who did the job and it is also an incredible succession of events. During the interview Simon started by telling a story about how he liked to make fun of his fans on Twitter - as a result, a lot of people started following him on Twitter right away. Moments later he sends the link to the Winchester via Twitter... snow ball effect. I also wanted to add my own 2 cents on the IP licensing question. This movie ain’t the LOTR or Star Wars it’s 8 years old and despite its huge fan base it is pretty much back catalog. Apart from doing re-edition of the DVD, BR what could they possibly expect to still make out of it? I think that any person with a bit of commercial sense could see the potential to make a profit out of something nobody was really counting on anymore. In my opinion, from a commercial stand point it can only be a “win” for the IP owners (pun intended). Note also that there has already been some productions of Shaun of the Dead merchandise. Edit: The Guardian is talking about the Winchester.
  19. Hi guys, I quickly wanted to thank you all for these great feedbacks. I am truly honored to be a part of this community. The debate around this project is certainly not over and I'm trying to keep an eye on the various discussion forums or on the CUUSOO page that still gets a lot of comments and hits due to the media coverage. I know that some of you are helping me defend the project and I also wanted to thank you for that. So far I did not get any direct contact with Pegg, Wright or anyone behind the production of the movie but I would just like to mention what Simon Pegg said on his twitter: “By the way, if by some miracle the Shaun Lego did go into production, me and Edgar do not stand to gain anything. We have no stake in merch. » « By that I mean, there is no ulterior motive other than the sheer coolness of it. It ain't the Benjamins, it's the bricks. » On Brickset we can read today the "Winchester Dilemma" or the fact that LEGO would be "damned if they do, damned if they don't". It's a healthy debate and I understand that - we - as LEGO passionates, feel concerned about these questions. Just to clarify my motives, I never did this to corner LEGO in a difficult situation. When I posted this on CUUSOO back in January I almost immediately took contact via email with the CUUSOO rep to get a pulse of how they felt about it. Their message has been pretty much the same all along – no guarantees, but go ahead. So I did, and I got (very) lucky. I was discussing the matter with a friend and this came out: “"No point in making the project phase only for adults if they're going to apply the kid filter on the product stage." – That’s a pretty good point IMO. I consider myself a true LEGO fan, always have been. My creations simply grew up with me, I am a fan of the zombie genre and sub-culture associated with it so I mixed my passions. I know very well that it’s on the edge but I tried to do it with taste. In my opinion CUUSOO is a platform to pitch for new ideas and catch the new trends. So yeah, it’s different than what LEGO usually does but it’s the point. Explore new territories, not do the things as LEGO would, they do that very well on their own!
  20. Speaking of smell, have you guys heard the news of the new odor coded Collector Minifigs from Series 8?
  21. As somebody pointed out on the CUUSOO page, there is another reason to rejoice... the Win did better than Minecraft! Minecraft ended up with 10,005 supporters, the Win got 10,007!! Ooooh yeah!! (sorry, I could not help it )
  22. You know what the best part is? The fact that it happened today and not tomorrow.. otherwise nobody would have believed it!
  23. I'm all for it, I'll even fly to Billund if I have to Please make it so! I'm afraid the sidewalk will have to go to match the other modulars Zombies for christmas, the perfect gift! Absolutely, and if I am given the chance to give my opinion I will make sure to reach out to the community as well - either via polls or open threads. This is a unique opportunity for us!
  24. Agreed, this is the icing on the cake! Grr.. on the other hand they did manage to make a typo in my name!
