FABULAND Crossover: Japanese tea house - ninjas!
L@go replied to Cecilie's topic in Special LEGO Themes
What a huge surprise that you made something Japanese...! ;) It's lovely though, and I especially like the use of the red doors and the way you've created several different types of flowers. Those capes are used very cleverly! And the pond is nice, too. -
Of all the buildings I've seen thus far, this is the one that is the most true to the original Fabuland feel - and without using the original Fabuland elements. That's incredibly well done, and a terrific idea. I especially like the windows and how you've recreated Fabuland parts: The tree, the bench, the sink and the bed - all superbly done. Wow!

FABULAND Building: Gibson Goat's Toadstool Tavern
L@go replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It really is amazing. Fully modular, with all those play features and details - and so much humor. The building/mushroom in itself is great, but the landscaping with that little brook, the bridge and the tree makes it even greater. Wonderful! -
I suspected this would turn up here sooner or later. Like I've already said on Flickr, it's absolutely gorgeous. I think I like your models of older ships better than the modern ones - the colours are very calm and appealing, and there's just something about the look of those sleek old ships that seems just right. A lot has been said about your hull techniques, but you keep improving it all the time - the bow is a more accurate design than I thought possible with LEGO. Well done, again, looking forward to seeing this in Skærbæk? Oh, and I just have to repeat: I'm hugely impressed by how you've used those helmets, both the normal ones and the aviator caps. Looks great! Finally, a question that I asked on Flickr, but that you probably missed: At 125 cm, is this your longest ship yet?

That's a great model! And as others have said, the parts used to make the boiler and that barrel are just perfect for the job. Very well done, and a great way to introduce yourself. Welcome! I'm guessing it's a static model - because that piston won't move, will it? Still lovely :) Yeah, you're probably thinking about this. Which is very similar - but it would be, as it's modeled after a real machine...

Very nice and well done! What an exciting opportunity, to be allowed in the pit lane during a GP. I've never attended a Formula 1 race, but it's definitely on the to do list.

I meant to comment on this earlier, but never got around to it. It really is a great model, and although I know you said you thought your custom decals weren't perfect I have to say I like them a lot. They really add to the build. Well done - looking forward to getting a closer look at this! :)

I agree - it's a great idea. A wonderful nod to the origin of LEGO.

I accompanied a female friend of mine into a toy store on Monday, offering a bit of LEGO advice as she wanted to buy a present for a friend's daughter. An employee overheard it and said "My oh my, you are knowledgeable about this, aren't you!" - in a tone that sounded a bit condescending. So I just replied, "Yes, I'm a proper expert" and left it at that :) My friend thought it was much funnier than I did. She couldn't stop giggling.

That's a lovely modular! The colours for the ground floor are... interesting... :) - but I really, really like the plastered-brick-wall-look of the upper floors. And the awning is great, too - lime and dark green go surprisingly well together. The whole thing fits very well into your (gorgeous) street. On another note: Have you considered getting a better camera (or experimenting a bit with photo processing)? Your current one doesn't do your buildings justice - that last picture isn't too bad, but the top four look far too dark and gloomy - the building is much nicer than it looks there!

I have kept myself from commenting on this until I had time to study the photographs properly, because this truly deserves that - and you've done a great job with these. And while the garden in itself and the exterior features of the buildings are very nice (I don't think the tower is necessarily in the wrong place; it all depends on what that side of the building is facing. If you imagine a river on that side, flowing past the building, I think building the tower on that side would be natural) - I have to agree with Kristel that what really stands out here is the interior. Your furniture is all lovely, with so many great details, including that waiter's tray for the table (which I think I've seen somewhere before, but I can't remember where - and it's still a brilliant use for that part). The stairs leading up from the livingroom do look a bit dangerous, I don't know if they'd pass a Health & Safety inspection, but building the steps sideways like that looks just as nice every time I see it - I'm going to need to try that next time I build a modular. And the stepped access to the window works perfectly. All in all: I love it! Looking forward to seeing pictures of it in the diorama!

This is a great entry, and one that will certainly make voting more difficult. I like the whole look of it, and the fact that you've managed to cram so many details into it - a 32x32 baseplate isn't really that big when you start filling it up with stuff! Your gas station is busy, no doubt about it, but not cluttered. I especially like the details at the front - the pipes, taps and that tank - and of course that lovely brick-built bike. Very well done - if you're planning on continuing to build in this quality, I very much look forward to what else you might post here on EB!

I like it a lot. There are so many good ideas on display this month that I feel more and more sad that this theme was killed off way back then. My little brother owned a lot of Fabuland sets, and they were very much loved :) This one in particular has an air of simplicity about it that is pretty spot-on compared to what the official sets were like. Well done!

It is gorgeous - not much more to say about that. The architecture, the colours, the details - it's perfect. I know which one is my favourite thus far...!

I don't understand how I missed this when you first posted it. It looks great, and so do all your other mini modulars. You've really got a knack for this. That row of houses is absolutely gorgeous - I'd love to have that on my shelf. Well done!

Like I said on Flickr, I'm seriously impressed by the ends - the way you've achieved that curvature is incredible! And the stickers look fabulous. The whole thing is great.

Great stuff! The stagecoach is brilliant, but the buildings are wonderful, too. And the chandelier is a nice touch. I especially like those decals - are they home-made? Looking forward to seeing this in Trondheim! :)

I really like this. The landscaping is simple, yet elegant; the colours work well together, and the whole scene looks great. Well done!

That's a very nice truck with some great details (crates, pallet jack) - and the whole delivery sequence is superb. Great job! I think maybe the front end would look even better if you had used a 3x4 33 degree slope instead of that wedge piece for a bonnet (hood)? The shape looks a tiny bit off.

Haha! Brilliant. I very much like the architecture of the building, and the general idea is great. Well done!
-
I quite like what you've done there - I'm planning on converting mine into something similar, but with a little twist. Sadly, it's still sitting in its box - I need to make some time to do it properly. I'll probably end up doing the same as you: Spend a whole night :)
-
That's a very tasteful and well-designed layout you've got there, and that's impressive with the limited space. Small layouts tend to get cluttered, but you've managed to refrain from filling it up too much. I also like the modifications you've done to official sets. Well done!
-
You've done very well to recreate the original look of the building! The exterior is pretty spectacular, and the interior is delightfully busy, there's a lot going on there. I like that.
-
That's got to be one of the best uses for the lever part that I've seen in a long time. Very well done!

This is a great project. I really like the look of what you've actually built thus far, and I know the restaurant is going to look nice as well (I've got my own copy of the original sitting on a shelf). Looking forward to updates on this!
