  1. I run 100% 9V so I have no desire to get any of the newer track. The Powerfunctions components aren't too bad, because I can still run them (independently) on the 9v track that I already own.
  2. Gorgeous design... Its breathtakingly beautiful. Good Job.
  3. Great Moc... Simon... We (the wife and I) were impressed to see it up close and personal. I really liked the detailing on the greeblies. I cannot endorse the model because it has blatant cruelty to Ewoks and Wookies....on a pair of "Wheel(s) of Pain" Now I could endorse it if the factory used Gungan (JarJar Binks, in particular) slaves and Timmies (those annoying peskie minifigs in the old Time Cruiser sets).
  4. I havent really tried out any of the power functions trains (yet). I just recently won an auction for a red cargo train engine with the powerfunctions included. So I will give my full opinion later on. However, I've had lots of experience with 9V and saying that its really the best way to go, IMO. (if you can swing it) Yes, 9V motors and track are getting harder to come by, but everything that has come out recently is backward compatible with the old 9V track. I hate to say this but the easiest way to get 9V components (especially starting out) is to buy a used 4561 railway express train set. Once you have the basic set, you can always expand it later. Used train motors are still pretty reasonable but i might question how much wear and tear is already on them. Forget about getting new 9V train motors.... unless you can spare the cash. Even the "My-Own-Train" motors that had slight performance issues are fetching big bucks brand new.
  5. I know those who were building them out of parts, the dark red slopes were extremely hard to come by, except those parts are available again via the PetShop. I think you have to ask yourself does it make sense to pay more than $400 for a set. If you are a collector, I guess. Will the set increase to much more than $800? If they did, Lego should do a run or two.... ....or at least put all the rare parts on Online Pick-a-Brick.
  6. Agreed. Though not necessarily for all the same reasons. The police boat... they are a dime a dozen.... if you dont have a couple now, you'll be able to get them in the future or cheap off ebay. The marina, is new, and in my opinion, you could come up with something better for the most part. Sure the surfer dude is cool, but I think overall, for the most part the harbor sets are a letdown. The city truck on the otherhand, even the "generic yellow" truck is designed very nicely and very cool. GO With the Truck. Its a no-brainer. good luck and play well.
  7. I've been into trains since 1999. It was the reason that I really started getting into Lego. It was the lamest (in my opinion) trains in the 9V train line, the 4561. I have 3 copies (two in box just for train elements - spare track and motors). I also have: 7745 Highspeed train (9v converted) Metroliner (both 4558 and 10001) Clubcar (4547 and 10002 x4) Freight Rail Runner Load n Haul Train Cargo Railway (4559) Freight n Crane Railway Cargo Train (4512) Cargo Train (7898) High Speed Train (4511) +1 extra engine, +3 extra passenger cars (I brought this train to this years brickfete) Hobby Train Motorized Hogwarts Express Hogwarts Express (4708, 4758) My Own Train components (black train engine, and other rolling stock) Target Exclusive Lego Express Deluxe (blue passenger train car) BNSF train engines TTX train cars Cargo Double Stack (x2) Sante Fe Superchief (1 Limited Edition, 2 Regular Editions - 1 converted to a "B" unit) Sante Fe Cars (2x Cars I, 5x Cars II) One of my club cars were "sante fe'd - Toy Story Western Train Maersk Train x2 Emerald Night Stuff I just acquired or forgot to mention 1 3677 Red cargo train engine (1 on the way, as well as 1 green hazardous waste box car) 1 brown box car (modified design from the 7898 Cargo Train) 2 7722 4.5 Trains 1 2126 Train Cars 1 3225 Western Train 1 7819 Mail Van (goes with the 7740)
  8. This is small feedback for one of the questions on going to events (Brickworld and Kidsfest). The question asked if "Have you ever been to a BrickWorld or Kidsfest event?" I thought the wording was a bit restrictive... I thought the question should have been: "Have you been to a fan-oriented event like Brickworld or Kidsfest?" So, it was in that context that I replied yes. Since I've been to a few Brickfests (when they were in Washington DC) and also Brickfete (in Toronto). I wonder what kind of input they will get and what they'll do with the information they receive.
  9. Isaac.... I love all the detail. Great photos of it, btw. I will have to put some stuff next year to be photographed. As for building prowess... you are amazing for your age. I really loved seeing your "rail-side scene" if would with the funky angle and the nice building beside it at Brickfete and a lot of people really enjoyed looking at it and your other creations.
  10. color][/url] Oh, yeah...I was the big guy with the shaved head and sleeveless plaid shirt wandering around with my wife on Saturday, taking pics of everything I could lay my eyes on. BTW...congratulations to the organizers! Y'all put on a wonderful show! Were you the one with the humungous camera bag, Ogre? ....because I know of at least one child on public day that took a spill on it as it was by the table in the train room... I was in the train room the whole time as I had to monitor the trains on the line as kids and women with large purses kept derailing the trains.... Ben Medinets
  11. If we are being speculative... I personally dont see the likelihood of individual rolling stock being sold at the moment. I have been surprised in the past, but with the collectible minifigs continueing until the unknown distant feature, we aren't likely to see rolling stock. This is because each of the minifigs taks a SKU and Lego only puts out only so many SKU's per year. As far as Thomas goes, and I know the poster wasnt serious with what he/she wrote, but Thomas is now being done by a certain competing brand of construction toys for the forseeable future. There have been changes in licensing, so it isnt out of the realm of possibility that Thomas could come back to being done by Lego. I personally think that Lego has their hands full of licensed toys for the moment, with Disney (POTC, ToyStory, Cars), Warner Bros (Harry Potter), StarWars... I would like to say that we should expect a new version of a passenger train in the next couple of years. I would like to see if Lego were to put out a set of Pullman Passenger Cars for the Emerald Night, but that probably is not likely to happen, and I'll probably have to make my own....
  12. Thanks for posting this on Brickshelf. I noticed your posted pics this morning.
  13. My wife was disappointed that we didn't have this set (yet). I had ordered this set for the Dirty Brickster game at Brickfete (this past weekend). The Isla de Merta set is a nice way to get Musketeer hats and the Elizabeth Swan figure is really nice. I won an auction at Brickfete to get a (small) bag of Pirate Elements (3 pirate captains, 5 or 6 mates, 2 Imperials (1 Soldier/1 Officer), a large JollyRoger Sail, a couple of JollyRoger "banners", a bunch of generic plastic sails, a fairly large JollyRoger flag for $25. My wife won on the last day one of the large raffle prizes, the Pirates of the Carribean Whitecap Bay. For the rest of the day (or at least until we left Brickfete, she had a rather large smile on her face. Lucky Brat!!! The only thing better than Lego Booty...is Free Lego Booty .... Arrrrgghhh....

    Canadian Eh?

You having a large "rental" van to move your lego around in probably helped greatly.
  15. First of all FrogStudio.... Great job with this MOC. I love it. The building techniques are great and it looks very well thought out. Plus it really does go well with the Market Street and the rest of the Modular Town Buildings Superb.
  16. I was thinking the same thing LT...... Seriously, the station looks very beautiful, and I think its CCC-standard compliant to boot. Sweet.

    set indenafier

I don't know that set... either that, or have the seller give a better shot of the instructions. At the very top of the instructions, if its a REAL Lego set, it will have the set number on it, at least the classic lego items. If the instructions don't have a set number, its not a real Lego set.
  18. I don't know exact real life engines I can directly compair it to, but I think the engine was supposed to be a short-haul yard shunter. My favorite part of this set was definitely the scale. That was absolutely brilliant of Lego. Having you picture a Sumo on the scale was definitely very sweet!! I definitely enjoyed that. Great Review for a Great Set. Brick On!!!
  19. Its not bad. I'll echo others who have already responded to this thread. Yes its a neat little set. If I could buy it for $25 and under, I might buy it. If not, I already have a 4032 Passenger Plane already, so I'm not going to get that excited about buying this one.
  20. To start this off, I'd like to comment that paying over $500 for a set like the 10190 Market Street is beyond sanity. I decided to first see how it would look to "build" it first in Lego Digital Designer and then to build it in reality. Here's the deeplink for the picture of the LDD of what I dub, "Community Garden" I put an order for the parts just after the beginning of July (about $50 US) from Online Pick-a-Brick, and a "small" order for the gates and the baskets. Brickshelf Gallery (when public viewable) Should be publicly viewable, finally. I hope you enjoy my take on this part of the set. And another anecdote, my wife didn't understand about the concept about using tiles on the top of the walls so the "lid" of the roof could be taken off.
  21. I didn't.... Maybe someone really loves town jr. I question my sanity for owning a bunch of the sets in this dismal era... goes to show you my desire to own lego sets. These will be the first sets to be given to my family and friends.......
  22. I like the Octan one with the re-issue. I also really liked the way they did up the service station in the town plan. the Shell promo sets are pretty good as well.
  23. I know you'd want increased speed and torque for the straight aways, but on the curves, you don't want that much speed because the higher the speed the increased chance of derailment. Ben
  24. That was so sweet seeing it up close and personal, Isaac. I loved how you "disassembled" it and showed the construction techniques. That was almost unbelieveable to see. I thought it was a "milk tanker", but those would be with metallic silver tanks instead, right.... Great job and I'm sure that will gain a lot of attention from the public at Brickfete if you bring it. Ben
  25. wow that is slightly crazy about it not being available until November. The 8866 is a 9V equivalent and will work power functions equipment with the proper cable (#8886 cable) has 9V to PowerFunction conversion. I hope that helps. I dont know how the two products compare performance-wise. All I know one is specifically geared for Power Functions (the one with a built-in wire) and the other is the 9V system (the one without). Ben
