Hi.. I posted a few times here and a few other forums. I've been a collector for 25 years off and on. Mostly On. I bought my first train set in 1999. 4561 Railway Express. Lame. I know, but I'd ALWAYS wanted to have Lego trains in my collection, but I had never enough money myself until I had got older and was out of school. Since then, I have several train sets including a 7745 High Speed Train, a couple copies of the metroliner (1 original and 1 legend) and its adjoining club car (1 original a couple of the legend) I also have a couple of the Sante Fe engines (1 Limited, 2 Unlimited copies), and a few other train sets. The next train sets I'm going to get are the Emerald Night and at least 1 Maersk Train set. Here are a couple copies of some pictures of my collection: Oversized Image Removed I hope you enjoy. Will post more later on.

I know even at full retail ($60 US or a mind-boggling $80 Canadian), this set is over-priced. But I think this set is definitely has play value at $30.00 at least for parts, and a nice wind turbine. With modification and adding powerfunctions, this could be really fun. Not quite as nice as the vestas set, mind you, but could be a viable alternative. I refused to pay full retail, but jumped when Lego had them on clearance in January after the new year. I see that Ebay sellers are trying hard to sell them above the $40 mark and lots of them are available at the $35 US on Bricklink. I just dont understand the complete lack of appeal.... well, as a set collector, this set would be as far apart as possible from my list of wanted sets, but for playability, it isnt that bad. On a side-note. I was going to hookup only a powerfunction medium motor and battery box to it to spin the blades, but the motor was too fast. I just got a IR remote control (with speed controller) and a IR receiver. This actually worked very good. I was thinking of getting a micromotor but I think this could be better long-term.

With so many trains out... how can I pick out one.... I love the Metroliner/Club Car, Sante Fe Super Chief, and Freight Rail Runner. One train no one has mentioned yet is the Airport Shuttle - Town Monorail system. This was the one set I always wanted when I younger. Honorable mentions: 7740 Intercity Train, BNSF, Emerald Night, and 2126 Train Cars. I am looking forward to the new Maersk train set.

medib replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks for posting the video... I thought it was very cool. Congrats to Pierre Normandin...he's the designer and from Montreal, Canada. A good reason for me to buy this model right away. It is posted on Lego Shop at Home for Canada and USA. $120 US and considerably higher for Canada.- 379 replies

Its an awesome looking station... my only criticism would be whats already mentioned about the scale of the rescue/pumper versus the rest of it. Congrats on getting your model being published. That's sweet. Thanks for posting about bricksnorth... I wouldnt have known about it otherwise. If it happens, I'll attend.

I disagree with Childish.... start building the City Modular sets... they are rated age 16 plus due to the complexity and detail. Collect the regular city sets to augment these buildings. Add trains. The buildings that are discontinued use Ebay and Bricklink to build your own or use Lego Factory (Digital Designer).

I feel your pain. I was unable to buy both the market street and the green grocer. I managed to snag a Cafe Corner before it got discontinued. Good luck with your search. I have been watching both the Green grocers and Market Streets on Ebay, and I've seen auctions for Market Streets max out at around $260 US and Green Grocer at about $300 US. I took a glance at Cafe Corner at the moment, and looks like most people are asking around $400. You could get lucky and hope that Lego will do runs of these, like they did with the Winter Toyshop... but I think these are gone for good. (Speaking of the Winter Toyshop), On a side note and a slight tangent... I remember in mid January last year the Toyshop was sold out and the price skyrocketed on Ebay and Bricklink. The price stayed high until the end of October/Mid-November when Lego did another run of them and the price plummeted. So we can only hope that Lego could do the same with the modular buildings...

Welcome to Train... ;) I just wanted to post that it all depends on what you are doing with the particular model... if you plan on running the model on a layout... buying the items used would seem like a better prospect.. if you plan on just putting the model on some shelf (in or out of the box) just for display, buying it in mint condition would be better. JUST WATCH OUT that if you do buy it used/open that the pieces arent faded or they smell like cigarrettes (or some the elements have bite marks in them). If you want to "get into" 9V trains as cheaply as possible, you can buy some 4561 lego expresses for very reasonable prices and use the elements in them, like the motor, speed regulator, and track for your other train purposes. Just adding my 2cents worth into the mix. Ben

Thanks for the feedback. I was using a fire van like this for inspiration: ...and you do notice that the van does fit nicely in the appartaus floor with room to spare... :p
-
I designed a simple fire van for my wife's godson for Christmas, as a gift. It came in a nice box which was more than worth the cost to get it. Pictures: The rest of the folder: Fire Van from Brickshelf I really like the SNOT design on the roof as my favorite part of the model, and the trans-smoke windows on the sides and back.

I just want to congradulate Hinkley on getting hired by Legoland. Congrats. Lugnet News Posting

It is supposed to have the roll-up doors at the back, but I don't think those are available...

My wife likes me when I play with my virtual blocks because it is "cleaner" that way. I wanted a "Sutphen-styled" Fire Engine/Pumper to go with the FDNY-styled Fire tender I recently uploaded to factory.lego.com. Without further ado, here is the new model: full size image

I have bought a few models off Lego Digital Designer and it isn't too bad. I like the box that it comes with. I don't like the fact that you don't get printed instructions with it. With the relative high cost per element from Lego Factory, I would think that they should include instructions....

Just thought I'd post this. I put it together earlier in the week, and finally got around to posting it on brickshelf and here tonight. Brickshelf Link It is available from Shop@home for $21.86. Link from Factory.Lego.Com I hope you enjoy. The two "windows" are supposed to be lift up compartment doors, and the roof on the cab is supposed to be red, but I tried my best fit in what is currently available in the pallet. Peace out, Ben M.

Your right that the jester has the wrong face and hair piece. Those belong to the new "villain" in the Agents line. Medib

Wow! I feel your pain.

Very Nice. I like the brick-based sails... very impressive and innovative. Despite the black-on-black background, I can see that you tried very hard to get this model right, especially with Lego Digital Designer. Who knows what pallette of parts we'll have next year with Lego Universe coming out, and maybe (hopefully) western parts coming out (keeps fingers crossed). Ben M.

First impression.... very cool Despite a couple comments on the geography (concentric shape) of the model and the "forced" foliage, I thought everything was well designed. I don't necessarily agree with the foliage comment....its perfect. As far as the overall shape of the model, its probably the best use of a large baseplate (POOP) I've seen in a while. The use of all your dark grey bricks were well "spent" making the model. I can almost imagine the red blood pouring out of the statue during the sacrifices.... (a shout out to Mel Gibson's Appocolypta) Anyways, great job. I liked it. Ben M.

sorry for replying to my own post..... Anyways, I changed the design slightly to allow blue and white combo. There most likely be other combinations of cutterbacks, when I finally get around to it. I haven't decided the next color scheme. I want to have 5 different color-combo cutters, along with an "original" cutter and an emperor's ship. Without ado: I had to do some substitions, but all in all, it isn't too bad. I will probably buy this one in the next two months, along with the $65.00 lego island that I also designed. The island and 5 cutters make my wife think I'm really off the wall. I think she is just hoping for the Racers Grand Prix set, and in the back of her mind, she really wants the new Death Star Playset. Ben M.

I was just wondering if you guys (and girls) seen this: Lego Universe It looks alright. I was hoping for a migration of Lego Digital Designer onto this... but maybe that will happen as the Lego Universe Portal goes live. Looks interesting...even though the uploading at this point seems very juvenile and somewhat archaic for online posting. Ben Medinets

Hey Capt, Didn't want to rehash the comments already posted, but, I see some gems starting to form here... it just needs to be refined a bit. You claim it is mostly a brick issue, but that's the case, you can download Lego Digital Designer and practise building some Mocs there, without worry about certain brick limitation... Just a thought.... then when your brick collection increases, you can update your look on your "scene". just my 2 cents, Ben M.
