The Four Hour Build
le60head replied to Alasdair Ryan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I suppose it's gonna be some kind of a bulldozer. I'm wondering what you're gonna use all the four LAs for. Good luck! -

Too bad :/ What do u mean by longer range? 2 meters? Did you find a way to fix that? I personally intend to get it to RC hobby models repair service. -
Thank you! It drives like one too. Looks at it best moving throughout a LEGO City layout.

Hello! First of all, i wanted to thank you all for the information you shared in this topic! It served as a great source of inspiration to me. After months of delay, caused by me being lazy, i finished the model i was working on. The steering system i used doesn't quite fit your description. The wheel wells on my model are 5 studs after all, which is huge. Yet it is the most compact motorized steering system i've done so far. The wight of the entire model is just 7 studs. I've made a video in order to explain how it works. Please look at my topic to see it used in my model of a Blue Bird School bus. LEGO BLUE BIRD All American School Bus Regards, legohead

Off topic: Did you have problems with the range of the RC unit as well? -
Hello! Wanted to share with you my model of a BLUE BIRD All American bus. Since it is minifig scale, i thought it would be suitable to share it here as well. Please click on the image above for a link to the original topic. For additional photos and a video of the model, please visit my topic @ Technic subforum. The model is fully remote controlled and features return to center steering. The interior can hold up to 12 passangers + driver. Hope you like it. Any comments, suggestions and questions are welcome! Best regards, legohead

This model is great! I like it very much. I'm eager to try and build a car using the RC Module myself. I recently got it second-hand, but there's an issue with the range. Keep up your great models, Zblj! -
Thank you for your feedback! Just applied the stickers, unfortunately i messedup the shade of yellow, and the ink smudged. Guess i'll have to redo them. Probably with plastic stickers. Anyway, here are the promised photos: A three quarter view of the front-right. Side view of the bus. There are six rows of seats inside. The remaining space in the back ( behind the three back windows ) is ocupied by the PF IR Receiver. Back view. Very proud of the back door i managed to make. Will you be able to guess what the door's handle is made of ? I'm not sure about the rear bumper, i might change that with something simpler, yet better looking. Roof section removed for acces to interior. Say "HI" to our passengers! Removed side of bus for better view. Anyone recognizing some tv-shot hosts in there? Yes, i managed to put a steering wheel. There's a gear lever as well. The bus driver looks very happy about that, doesn't he? Unobstructed view of interior. You can see the steps behind the door as well. Same picture with roof reasembled. The photos were taken at room light, so the quality ain't the best. If you would like to see more photos, please ask :) I made a hi-res video of the model in action. I tried to explain how it works, and how i managed to fit everything inside. Well guys, hope you like it! P.S. Thank you for your patience with the photos! Regards, legohead Thank you! I started off with the idea of building a 7-wide school bus. In the end, i think the bus is a bot unproportional - it should be a little wider to match its height. I decided to stick with 7-wide, since my main goal throughout this whole build was to make it as small as possible. Also, with its current dimensions the bus can easily drive trough a LEGO city layout. It can make a 90 degree turn on the road baseplates: I tried driving it on the modular buildings layout during our last year's LEGO exhibition, and it was great fun! You can see that on the video posted in the beginning of this topic. Back then it didn't have return to center steering, so i crashed into a lot of things

Thanks DLuders! Here is a photo of the exact model i wanted to recreate: It is the first generation (pre 1888) of the BLUE BIRD All American bus. The photo you posted is of the TC/2000 (type D), which was from the second generation AFAK. The most notable difference is the headlights. About your question: No, i did not use the module from Track Turbo RC. The bus is just 7 studs wide, so it would be too big. I used two of the 71427 motors: And some adapter cables to hook it to the PF IR receiver. The power comes from a 88000 PF small battery box ( the one which uses 6x AAA batteries). I'm very happy i managed to fit it inside. It barely fit! The rest is some gears, rubber bands and of course ... magic :D I'll post additional photos this evening after work. I'll think about what figs to fit inside the interior until then P.S. I envy you for seeing them every day. I've never seen one for real, so it was hard to build it on just old photos.

Hello Jorgeopesi! Thank you for showing interest. I'll try and make a video of the finished model in the next couple of days First i want to apply the stickers onto the bus. For the time being, you can see an earlier version of the model "in action" in the following video. Its from an exhibition of our LUG - Lebgo. Please skip to 4:00 to see the bus moving. However, please note that on that video u will see an older version of the bus. It has been rebuilt several times since the making of this video. One of the major changes is, that it now has return-to-center steering!

Hey guys! After month and months of delaying, here's finally the refinement of my LEGO Yellow School bus. Please scroll down this topic to see a video of the model. The reason i post this model in the TECHNIC section, is because it is fully PF Remote Controllable What's left to do on the model is just a change of seats color, and some stickers ;) I thought i'd share just a quick pic right now. Hope I got you interested. Expect MORE photos very very soon!

True. I guess now u understand why i started this topic Yesterday two of those snapped: ( one right after the other) I hate when it happens I think there's a lot of sence in what DLuders said: that parts such as bushes or connectors become worn and stressed in time, and the time comes when they simply crack. So what he recommended is to buy new parts ( unused newly produced ones) But i suspect, that some of the older parts were kind of strogner? I mean, made to be stronger. Have any of you guys noticed that ? ------- @Zewy The "toothed half-bushes" and the other toothed parts were used in the following way: Most parts have either a cross-axle hole: (x) or a round hole: (O) The ones with the X-hole could be placed on a cross axle in 4 positions: at 0, 90, 180 and 360 degrees. The parts that have a toothed end, like the toothed half-bush can be mated with the toothed half bush and in this way placed on a cross axle at 16 different positions, at every 22,5 degrees. Here's a quotation from technicopedia: Look at the way the connectors in the middle top of the picture are mated together: Hope this explains it, sorry if i didn't express it clearly.
