help building a steering arm
le60head replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello! Could you please mark the pivot point of the steering arms please? I am not sure i understand your construction correctly as it is now. Would be glad to help with what i can :) -
Ideas for new part designs
le60head replied to Nachapon Bricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Great ideas bbqqq! How do I support you on Cuusoo? Could you post a link please. -
Hey there folks! I wanted to ask for some advice on technic bushes & half bushes. I am noticing that many of them are cracking, and i'm trying to figure out why. Though they're cheap on bricklink, i'd like to avoid damaging them as much as possible, or figure out which ones are the most durable. So here's my question: In your experience, have you noticed whether older ones or newer ones are more prone to cracking? Also, do you think that the cross axles have changed during the years? I suppose due to slightly different thickness, they could be the cause as well. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Good to know, thanks!

Hello! I'm pretty much sure you're right- lego Cuusoo doesn't seem to be the right place for suggesting new motor production to TLG, but hey, why not give it a try! Signing a petition would be nice. I'd be glad to join in ANY efforts for saying what we want - a smaller PF motor! Guess most of you guys know that there was (is) a custom mini motor, built in the insides of a LEGO Technic piston coat. The fact that such a motor was fan-made and was (is) available for sale is a proof for the need of such a motor! Here's some info for the ones of you that are not familiar: Do you think that a "body-count" of everyone who ever used such a custom motor in their mocs would be any good for proving our need of a smaller pf motor? Here's a little img to support the cause :)

Ok, i dont think i'll be going there any time soon. So I plan on putting the "support the XS PF motor" t-shirt on display in my 10220 VW Camper, instead of the yellow one ;) Does any of you know what the internal gear reduction inside the red micro motor is? its very low rpm AFAK. Its efficiency shows there's plenty of gearing down inside. If lego make a shorter version of the existing m motor, keeping the internal planetary gear reduction, i hope they would be able to make it 3 studs long vs the current 6 studs in lenght. That means that the motor itself should be about 3 or 4 times shorter in lenght.

New Power Functions ideas
le60head replied to zewy623's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the description. I agree, proportional servo would be a good addition! Rubber bands or springs don't always do the trick, and they occupy to much space, which is a pain usually. There is such a motor in the RC Buggy receiver unit - the built in motor for the steering is with 3 steps and returns to center when you release the control stick on the remote. I am not aware of TLG making a proportional servo available in any other situation. -

New Power Functions ideas
le60head replied to zewy623's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
True, i just got my hands on a RC-buggy Radio control remote & receiver unit and i love it! It's much more responsive, and has longer range. They're great, but they're much more-expensive than PF remotes & receivers. The reason I personally like PF is because it it relatively cheap. Although the lag does bother me sometimes, i'd stick with Infra Red due to it's comparably lower price. I agree with grohl, that the existing IR PF remote control with the speed-control remote is not suitable for cars as it is now. I do not have an idea how it can be improved. Keep the topic hot! New Power Functions ideas
le60head replied to zewy623's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hey there! Sorry, didn't explain clearly what i had in mind: The new receivers & remotes should be backward compatible IMO. It would be a pain to use the NEW receivers only with the NEW remotes. Wouldn't it be more convenient if the new remote for example can use the existing channels 1-4, and be able to operate on 4 more channels (5-8 for ex). I'm not sure if the IR signal could support more than the existing 4 channels though :) P.S. Can someone please explain what "proportional" rc means? Does it mean that spinning/pushing the control lever/wheel by X degrees results in the motor spinning the same amount? Thanks in advance! -

I support the idea of having more than 4 IR channels for PF. But it should definately be compatible with the existing IR receiver and remotes. -
Longer Pneumatics
le60head replied to allanp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great topic everyone! I too would like to see longer pneumatic rams. I support the latest suggestion for a 1-wide mounting on the bottom of the pneumatic rams. I think 9-long stroke would be the maximum most of us would need. The standard 2-stud diameter of the ram's body is fine by me. they're pretty sturdy. The mini pneumatic rams bend too much ( the piston is a bit loose ) -

Great model! I need to spend some time trying to understand how you built it! Would you like to put it in LEGO Cuusoo? -
Great work! Love your moc! I just love when vehicles have a space for mf, and yours transforms on top of that!

Cutting corners to lower cost
le60head replied to Burf2000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am sure you can use an RCX to power 3 onboard motors ( 1 channel for each). What i was surprised to find out is, that the RCX can send commands to PF remote receivers! It can be done by using the built in IR receiver. This means, that 1 RCX could be the "brains" of your bot, and it can control an additional 4x2 = pf motors via 4 IR receivers set to different channels. Ofcourse, that means powering the PF receivers with an additional power source. here is the link to the website, where you can see how to do that trick: My link I haven't tried it myself, so i have no personal experience in the matter. Wish you luck with your amazing bots! Keep it up!
