Analysis of 2016 LEGO Architecture sets...
freakwave replied to henrysunset's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Looks like LEGO had too many "Burj Khalifa" tiles left :-) Interesting that we get another incarnation of the world's tallest building so soon. Interesting thoughts in your blog-post -

MLCad: Part count in BOM are wrong
freakwave replied to 1963maniac's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
LPUB sometimes has issues with counting parts when a BUFFEREXCHG is at the end of a .ldr file. You should avoid this. Over in the LDRAW forum there is a thread going on where LPUB is getting a long awaited overhaul. The file itself would really help. The position where the count fails should also be visible as the number of parts in the PLI will be wrong as well. Upload the file to dropbox or similar and share the link via PM -
software to create a custom base plate
freakwave replied to deeps831's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, that's what I actually did. deeps831 wants: a) a custom part (as he puts it a "base plate") b) use this part in LDD regarding a) there were some answers how to do that in a non-native format of LDD regarding b) I may quote myself: and kangminjie answered the LDD part pretty extensively- 10 replies

software to create a custom base plate
freakwave replied to deeps831's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
MLCad from the LDraw family has a Baseplate Generator: Extras -> Generators -> Baseplates Generates 2D Baseplate with the dimensions you want and of course studs, See LDraw.org for the SW. Re LDD I can't help- 10 replies

Help operating LDraw
freakwave replied to monkeyjay2003's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
If you used the All-In-One-Installer from the LDRAW Download site, you should have a directory with parts (usually like C:\LDRAW\PARTS) and a number of additional editors, tools etc. Those should also be in the C:\LDRAW folder. One of the editors included is MLCAD, just look for MLCAD.exe on your system. Many of these programs will still ask you for the "LDRAW path" when they start, just set it to the location of your LDRAW directory, e.g. "C:\LDRAW" -

Beautiful motions! Looking really nice and smooth! -
Has the whole thing being rendered once already? If not, try first an export to png, this way all the CSIs (Step Assemblies), Parts etc. are rendered and the subsequent work is much smoother. That is my experience. I set all the scaling (BOM/Parts/PLI/CSI), look that there are more or less sensible steps and let it run first just generating the output as PNG. Later I go there and sort steps, which is then usually shorter as it is using pre-rendered images. If a new assembly is required as parts were moved between steps, then I just use the redraw button. The last model I worked on had more parts and it was reasonable quick.

Did you see the new/recolored parts at the end of the video? What color is the 2x2 plate and the triangular plate?

[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
freakwave replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
There is a TEXMAP extension in LDRAW. I think there is something related in LDCad as he posted this in the LDraw forums, but let's see what Roland replies how far it is in V1.5 -
This is really a nice set! And I was so excited when I saw the first pictures of it with a decent resolution as I saw that LEGO finally gave us a part I was longing for an eternity: the 50950 Curved Slope 3 x 1 in GREEN!!!

[LDRAW] 3947a wrong logo-on-stud rotation
freakwave replied to ___'s topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The orientation of the stud logo is determined by the orientation of the "stud.dat" primitive itself, usually attention is paid to the orientation. The below LDraw code shows the studs oriented in all directions: 1 4 10 0 30 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 stud.dat 1 4 10 0 -10 0 0 1 0 1 0 -1 0 0 stud.dat 1 4 -10 0 10 -1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 -1 stud.dat 1 4 30 0 10 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 stud.dat Put it into a file and look at it in LDView, set it to "Primitive Substitution", Check "Texture Studs" and watch :-) To have parts corrected, post your request in the LDraw Forum, Parts Request -
HELP with Flying Callouts. LPUB
freakwave replied to Doc_Brown's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Can you provide your MPD/LDR/DAT file that shows the problem? (and the page number) Actually I add the "0 !LPUB CALLOUT PLACEMENT" line to every call-out. The last version on of the code on sourceforge has these corrections added, did you try 4.0.0.14 or 4.0.0.11? -

Try to tinker around with the bold part at the end of the line. 0 !LPUB CALLOUT PLACEMENT RIGHT TOP ASSEM OUTSIDE -0.2 0 -
HELP with Flying Callouts. LPUB
freakwave replied to Doc_Brown's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I have the problem, too. However i cannot try the fix you suggested as I cannot get it to compile. What I usually do is to manually enter a position offset in the call out line. That are sometimes weird values but you get the call-out to stick where you want to have it -
HELP with Flying Callouts. LPUB
freakwave replied to Doc_Brown's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I am trying since some time to compile LPUB with QT4.6, so far I had no luck. I hope I will succeed soon -
There's a nice semi-hidden command in LPUB that allows you to play around with the step spacing. Keep the margins as they are, use this: 0 !LPUB RESERVE 0.1 The "0.1" means that there is a space of 10% of the page's height inserted. As far as I am using it, it is working only well with a vertical distribution of steps. Play around with the numbers! Mixing a column and row layout is not possible
