  1. Most masterful rendition of a design. You deserve to think of yourself much higher... it might take some time but this is really fantastic. And the information presented seems to deal well with your development; truly inspirational. And yes, Trash Compactor was also destined for the same needs on my layout - just life got in the way first. Seems Lotso is busy trying to sabotage efforts again. Where are the Alien's hiding? With all your freight cars (on the video - around 5m) it looks like there is wheel slip?... certainly it still pulls well which is a really great attraction. Are the wheels BBB with tyres? And if so - how were they added?
  2. Or more precisely the small wagon found behind most large steam engines - unless this be a strange Anglo-American problem. Red Bricks link is perfect.
  3. True. But adding plates underneath does not solve it either as it cannot close tightly to the studs of 30565. Anyway easy to work around.
  4. There is a thread (somewhere on here) about the set, where a customer tender is made around a 9V train motor. This tender actually then pushes the train and pulls the carriages. If you have no existing track or motors then it is time for a trip to either Bricklink or Shop @ Home to pick up the necessary bits. I.e. a power functions motor brick #8866, and battery box #8878. If you want to have it remove controlled then you need to add the IR receiver #8884 and controller #8879. Note the new train sets (7898 and 7897) have a different motor / battery box combo - you can generally find these stripped out and available seperately on ebay. There may also be plans by Lego to release these as new kit elements in 2011 (I heard a rumour once) but no idea if it will come to pass.
  5. Not sure if it was listed earlier - the Round plate Theta=64 x 9.6 (used e.g. in 10016 train tanker) still does not attach to round plates - it needs to be guided into place using an axle and even then does not fit properly.
  6. Im not convinced; the moulding appears to have diagonal elements to the centre hole. It would look more like a Mini LA connector mount, like its larger cousins.
  7. @bbqqq Well you finished Carousel before me - but then it has been slow progress for me - I often dont have time in the evenings / weekends. My version is in Universe mode but without any brick replacements yet.
  8. But dont forget, after the success of Cafe Corner and Market Street Resales, everyone is jumping on the same bandwagon; and can flood the resell market.
  9. And quite a few people use the flex system for rods on steam engine wheels..
  10. Reminds me of the part of the station at Arth-Goldau in Switzerland, where the narrow gauge Rigi railway rides across the main line in a bridge, which also houses the station. Ok slightly different colours are used - but this could make a nice diorama.
  11. Some really tough decisions here - but all deserve to win!.
  12. Cool. Some nice new things to play with. Indiana Jone train track for those smaller models... And now I can finish off my small model diesel engines... and perhaps find time to continue with the Carousel... Thanks LDD team.
  13. This is a nice solution - especially the interlocking studs to create the curved track elements. I had been investigating the curved slopes; and could make a suitable one using various arch and slope (curved) pieces; but was always missing the alternate direction. A good hint... I did not get much further with my summer narrow guage plans - and have been spending too much time on other projects especially once it became apparant that there was no easy solution. But this reminds me to continue working on it.
  14. Now blogged on engadget.com. Seems a lot of people are impressed with this!
  15. Depends upon country... In CH it seems you need to buy 3000 Euro merchandise upfront - and submit a business plan and evidence of your sales channels (including web only if you have it)... and then it is evaluated. I know of a similar story for someone in USA.
  16. Yippeee been waiting so long... Thanks to all who made it possible.
  17. Seems you got scammed (Or perhaps not?)- if you can, place a claim for a refund. Crowkillers has his own special Ebay service and not an intermediate.
  18. I am currently building the carousel - and had a similar issue with a 12 sided beat. The best way was to use the physical layout recommended in the instructions set - using plates and 1x2 tiles with studs to get the correct (and legal) spacing of the elements... then click the hinge too until they locked together (it took five minutes)... and then copy and paste. I also checked it was legal by first making 1/4 work, then save and exit LDD... and restart LDD to make sure the pieces remained in place (it worked). The Carousel will still take some time to finish off - im on the moving plates at the moment - but is so far legal.
  19. I wonder if Superkalle knows more then the rest of us.... So as they would say on Monty Python Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink, Know what I mean?...
  20. This was posted to Engadget.com - and shows a unique (if not 100% lego) solution for folding t-shirts. http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/10/lego-mindstorm-nxt-enlisted-for-shirt-folding-robot/ Original link from NXT Step Not sure it would work on my office shirts, pressed to conviction and starched until they stand up on their own.
  21. I am keeping to both... keep the look as close as possible, and functions as close as possible... but also to 'reinvent' slightly for 2010 (and beyond). So older space models get two versions - those with old grey, and then now light bley. Similarly where possible to keep the shape the same. But clearly not always 100% possible - e.g. the old 851 tractor needed the larger wheels (as you also realised). In this case I kept the model identical but added a 1x6 plate to lift the rear mud-guards to make it work. Of course the front wheels had no friction to the axle
  22. Go for the cargo train and dont ruin the surprise! Most AFOL returning from the dark side (i.e. no lego play for a long time) will remember their childhood, and the fun of a) remote control (of some sort) and b) shunting, rearranging, and driving. The Cargo Train kit allows all of this, with track and points, and great motorised components to start building his own designs. Emerald Night will hopefully be around for a while and would make a great Birthday present - it is a beautiful model and really an eye opener for how well lego can design models, but it needs track to make it look good... and then all the extra motorised components. I just wish my Wife would take the initiative and offer a model for me - out of the blue - rather than asking; or even letting me buy and get the money back later. It kind of ruins the 'surprise' and 'wow' factor. And dont forget to point him towards Railbricks - an excellent site for any AFOL into Trains and such like.
  23. Hello, Welcome, and please read the LDD Universe Thread instructions, in particular the first page describes how to unlock the Universe Mode.
  24. I too would be interested... my PhD finished over a year ago now and the writing was tough (especially when running department projects simultaneously) - but glad it is over now. So good luck!! Ive written code for MSP's - but not really dealt with the Arduino's before. C/C++, Labview, Matlab, Simulink (S functions), xPC etc are my background - along with basic PCB layout (Protel / Altium DXP etc). So im likely to follow the thread a lot - but also need to balance work and life...
