Exclusive Train 10219 Maersk Train (Exclusive 2011)
roamingstop replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Train Tech
In anticipation of all those buying and breaking up sets... I had a quick reverse engineer of the models (from available pictures) myself. The designs are in a LDD... available here if anyone wants them. And no these are not built from the official instructions, so unknown pieces are shown in red. Of course in digital land it is also possible to design a complete refrigerator unit without spaces for the Maersk logos - for the anonymous connoisseur And as a comparison to the existing freight containers from 7939- 379 replies

Sorry Irony Icon was not available. Agreed I use that service as well - having just bought two more container wagons that way. But this probably has made sales of 7939 explode. I dont see it happening so much with the 3677 set... to many unusual items. But enterprising people will probably use the split base plates to generate longer wagons for the Maersk liner, and the red loco will be welcome. And a long coal train going to a power station would look grand.

Perhaps a mould broke - or was needed for another model in higher volumes... or TLG just got annoyed that AFOL'S bought the set and split it them on ebay for huge profits? Or perhaps they considered a cargo train to be less popular with KFOL's, and did a lower production run than the 7938 train... only to discover the reverse was true. For the new model to be the same price as 7939 I would expect it to appear with track... and motors etc, possibly with switches (like cargo train). Without this it would be an expensive exclusive.

Is that Maersk Blue on the right? And Dark red on the left? And everyone waiting for a new modular building with some unusual colours?

MagCloud DOES ship to the UK - thats how I ordered my copies of issue 1-6 - and the print quality is pretty d. good. Very professional, and the photos are spot on. The colours which show most variation are the generated images of the build process - and then it is only like looking at Lego instructions.

Apart from Bricklink.... Over 186 in one shop in Germany or another in USA... Where are you based? Dont forget you can always check the inventory of a model. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=7938-1

Wow that one came out fast... Having had the magcloud print outs of series 1=6 I will definitely get these (7&8) soon. Thanks!

If you look in earlier posts / photos on this thread... it seems the battery box now has a red casing (front of the cab) - the light bley line happens to match the location of the battry box cover. The IR receiver is hidden beind a pair of dark bley doors which fold back on the main body (rear of the cab). First I thought it was a new red one, but seems not.

As mentioned a lot of times.... www.bricklink.com It is generally much cheaper than getting the equivalent parts via Ebay. Also - if you make up some of the models via Lego Digital Designer, Superkalle wrote a nice piece of s/w which enables you to generate a wish list of pieces, which can be uploaded as a 'wanted list' to Bricklink. Once there you can also search for shops which contain the highest number of parts... whilst it the selected shop may not have the cheapest bricks around, often it is cheaper than buying in three or four shops and getting different shipping costs. I recently did an order to complete some carriages (4961) which were missing some red seats, or black 1x8 tiles. Once you get addicted to Bricklink... it is terrible for the credit card. Occasionally it is cheaper to buy a set for somethings. E.g. I picked up Diagon Alley because of the high number of specific window pieces I wanted, and other elements. It worked out the same as buying a couple of BL orders, but I also got extra pieces ;-) SImilarly im working on a red train concept, and found it cheaper to head out to get 1/2 price firefighting models than orders via BL (but only just).

Agreed, they sell very well in Switzerland, where the trains can be recognised by most of the kids. Rushing a model might be the case, but with trains there are lots of submodels which could be in the pipeline for some time, waiting for the sudden release. To the Loco could have been developed some time ago, the maintainence truck looks relatively simple (put some of the 7838 platforms onto a long train base) and the truck is a cut down version of normal city bits. Even the coal tender could be using a part from a forthcoming set... so for trains it could be easy. Re the IR receiver - my bad. The door clearly covers the grey bit :(
-
Well it has a red and white battery box, and what appears to be a red and white IR receiver at the back. It looks very similar to a design concept I had submitted in July 2010 (job application portfolio) , where I had made up some pictures of a red and black receiver. However it is much more professional than my ideas. Good - my other half will complain in August... however it is also great as Im currently building a Fire Train which needs a lot of red bits... so Im happy. Perhaps this is also a concept for 2012 as an official Fire Fighting Train has never been released.

Whether new or not, there is a lot of similarity with the AMD series in Switzerland. The small crane arm is typical for the mini self propelled modules of www.windhoff.de http://www.windhoff.de/d/index_ft.htm (click on Windhoff modular concept on the lower right).

More interestingly... which Maersk container truck is passing over the bridge? A Moc or a new model?

I added some links to the EE-33 prototype wheels (EN) I had generated - some which worked and some which did not. The last one was quite stable and could pull 3-4 EN carriages, but securing the motor down proved hard... and I was not convinced a 9+ wide wheel set would be good. In the end I went for medium sized BB wheels - and used a blank instead of the pulley (BB wheels have a different connecting rod offset) - which made the size of the base slightly smaller... I had felt that EN was too large. But I think looking at your crocodiles, and knowing I will be migrating most of my models to 8 wide... it makes sense. Two videos (no idea if they work online) can be found on the links below. You can see the problem of the lack of driving bands around BB wheels (i.e. slip) Video1.ogg Video2.ogg Thanks for re-firing up the project to finish this model off.
-
Last year I built a Swiss EE 3/3 Loco - which has exactly the same driving wheel configurations as used on the crocodiles, and I really like your solution. I guess the main axles are powered rather than the driving ring (pulley). I had tried a variety of tricks to make the pulley the primary drive train, but found there was too much flex in the bars... what are your thoughts? Do I see some BB wheels in there? And how did you manage to set the pulley wheel logically with the right offset to the main wheels? On the whole is definitely the way the model should be done as a future AFOL release And it gives me a bit more confidence to reuse the EN wheels for the remake of the EE 3/3 (currently I use BB middle wheels).

My bad.. Some B units... but not in Maersk colours... so I can start designing this weekend... ;-) and in case anyone else is interested. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,2373720 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BNSF_SD40-2B.jpg http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=194 And how long until people do this? http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locopicture.aspx?id=16903- 379 replies

Exclusive Train 10219 Maersk Train (Exclusive 2011)

Now we've got the pictures... can anyone point me in the direction of which North American train this is likely to be based upon? I have no idea for train codes or names (and am not a geek) but want to start planning a couple of B units if it fits.- 379 replies

Patience will be the key as I strongly suspect after Maersk launch the prices will initially rise (people will be keen to go backwards) and then possibly drop once they realise how good the Maersk line is... However in Europe there are often good deals around to pick up some bits of models - but to be fair the price of the grey port holes is incredibly bad... (but 3 months ago there were only 10 on BL). So not sure where the >50 items have suddenly appeared from, as no new pieces have been produced. It is also worth checking other auction websites... e.g. in Switzerland we have Ricardo.ch and sometimes models appear on there much less then ebay. The prices of the SF car's is ridiculus... I picked some up in the summer for a good price only to find most of them had light bley pieces and a light scattering of light grey. oh well. Oh and also find a good friend. Occasionally large 'sets' made up of a couple of locos and carriages appear and can be split between you. BL can also be your friend - as I once picked up a full Chief without box for a decent price - I was quite surprised as it was much lower then EBay.

If AJ is watching videos - try the Garden Railway series from Mark Found http://ovalfilms.com/acatalog/The_Garden_Railway.html http://www.railwayworld.tv/ It is true - either you love his presentation style or you dont - but there are some excellent resources on there, and some great British garden railways.
-
This looks excellent and reminds me so much of many GWR type stations in Somerset and Dorset railways.. Now all you need is the EN driving off with the latest observation car, and everyone on board departing for a grand day out at the beach.
