EB CMF Contest Results - Category 7A, 8A and 9A Winners

All of these were awesome. Congratulations! -
I didn't have very many sets when I was a kid (just small ones), but it was still a lot of fun putting them back together. Good luck!
-
I like this a lot. The tower is very nice, and the fountain and bath both add to the detail and add some humor.
-
I agree, that would have been pretty unique, and it still would have looked like a stone castle.
-
Me too! I woke up and thought, "I hope that really happens!"

It's a fun thread. Thanks for letting me know about it! About Pirates: I like those ideas, though I usually do those things myself. If they made different pirate crews, it would be great if the minifigures were more distinct from one another, so each pirate crew could look more distinct. Ahh I can't wait to see that. I did put the Hawaiian girl with my Islanders, from the previous CMF series. They will resume Pirates! The question is when, and what will the next line look like?
-
This is cross-posted from the Pirates forum (I didn't realize there was a dream thread here till Zeya pointed it out), so I apologize if you're seeing it twice. I just had the awesomest dream about the Pirates line being resumed. There was a new big pirate ship, with a captain a lot like the one in the collectable minifig line. It was larger than Brickbeard's Bounty, but smaller than the Imperial Flagship. The pirates also had a small ship with a big cannon. The ship was brick-built, and it looked a little like one of the older sets I've seen. The imperials had some kind of roving fort that I don't remember well, and a shiny new redcoat leader minifig. There was also a middle eastern (or maybe Indian) style fort, super detailed, introducing a new faction...
-
Thanks! Though I feel a little embarrassed now, posting in the wrong place. However: I do hope that when they bring back Pirates, they add some interesting new factions. Something like an Indian faction would be great, and sort of like the Polynesian style "Islanders" from the 90s.

That was a great short video. I also liked the sound effects. For lighting... I've used desk laps with white handkerchiefs rubber banded onto them to act as diffusers. If you get the right color (daylight) bulb, it should look like sunshine. It will at least be bright in a way that doesn't glare. This is the guide I originally used when setting up my lights: http://gmtristan.com/toy-photography-setup/ It should be similar for stop-motion, as long as the lighting stays the same...

Alright, that's pretty funny

There are so many great builds here, it's hard to choose. But: 6. sdrnet - 1 21. Krystel - 1 33. vecchiasignoraceppo - 2 39. Cara - 1 -
On the historical naked warriors: Interesting! On the minifigs: I think an MOC portraying a battle between freaked out armored minifigs and naked warrior minifigs could be pretty funny. :) And on the faces: if they are yellow, it still leaves the bad guys with freaky evil faces, which is at least different from last time.
-
Really? Interesting point... Do you happen to know which ones? Maybe we should be glad the new factions have clothes at all, even if the heraldry isn't appealing! Because all yellow would suck
-
No problem. I think even those ancient cultures didn't put those particular symbols on their knights' shields, either. :)
-
You know, in many ancient cultures, the phallus is a classical symbol of strength... I don't think that's what it looks like, though.
-
That could be really interesting, and a change from the usual, too. As for the bad guys, if they have vampire faces, that does sound awesome. Maybe they will be "related" in some way to the dragons, other than just using their image for heraldry and having the one dragon as an ally.
-
Well, maybe after they are done with LOTR/Hobbit, they will run an original line that's more interesting to AFOLs, maybe something historical that's not exactly castles. The ancient Roman minifigs seem to be really popular.
-
It looks really similar to Kingdoms to me, but not as sophisticated as the LOTR sets. I can see that this is aimed at a younger age group than either LOTR/Hobbit or Kingdoms. But, really, the sets don't look bad, they just don't appeal to my aesthetic. I did like Kingdoms, but it is too similar to that line (and the heraldry doesn't work for my existing factions), so I'll pass, but I'm sure some kids will really enjoy this theme. :)

I surely prefer that TLG not try to update the sets based on old movies to make them more politically correct, even to correct a subtly racist portrayal. It's not the same issue, but I thought it was very silly when they removed Nazis from all the Indiana Jones sets (or did I dream that?). I'm also reminded of this time that a colleague of mine at the university was looking at some pics of my old LEGO sets, and she was nice about it, but said that she thought the Islander sets were inappropriate, with their stereotyped portrayal and drawn-on cleavage and so on. But, if they were worried about not adhering to stereotypes, how could TLG make any minifig or culture look like anything? So, I don't care, as long as it's not something outrageous or really inappropriate (I can think of a few hypothetical examples).
-
Clearly, as others have said, the actual correct usage is using LEGO in all caps and as an adjective to modify "bricks," "sets," etc. If I'm being casual about it, I don't see that Lego (n, plural) is any more correct than Legos (n, plural), so I usually use "Legos" in that case, since it was what I always said as a child.

That does look like it's in great condition, and so many pieces! You even still have clips on the saddles and barding. I'm jealous :) I've inherited a few different childhood collections in recent years. From my tiny collection, not missing a single piece, I actually reconstructed all those old sets. From the others, I managed to put together the Black Knight's Castle -- minus the barding clips ;) -- and just sorted the other pieces into bins (based on size; I have a hard time picking out different pieces when sorted by color). Then I have a lot of pieces left to build more stuff whenever I want..!

Well, I'm sure I'm not the target demographic anymore (or ever was, being female), but even when I was a kid, I was not interested in combat between good guys/bad guys, but I still much preferred fantasy/sci fi settings over city. I'll have to see better pictures before I decide for sure, but if the heraldry is too similar to my other factions, I'll probably pass on these sets. Too bad, but I'm sure there will be other castle sets in the future.
