As with all of your mini rigs it's really nicely done and very authentic to the original model. I must admit I'm thrown by the shovel as the basis for a weapon (as with the new AT-AT)... I just look at it and think 'It's a shovel'. Just can't see past it. Would Reddish Brown be the recommended colour for the build?

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

I'm sure that saturation point on the more recent sets will happen and with it the prices will drop. I've found there are spells in which the prices are really low then other times when they seem to be higher. Either way they're working out at around £1 per figure at the most... which is still pretty good. I've ordered the GOTG set as placeholders until the actual set prices get some nice sales... but also to see what the future brings with the leaflets they include. SY don't seem to announce stuff really... they don't have preview leaflets or anything... just come out with new product. We've had some decent stuff from them in the last couple of months though. It won't be long before they'll have caught up with all of the official releases that are out and they'll be having to come up with entirely new lines... which is an exiting thought. It also wouldn't surprise me if they then went after some more of the customisers and copied their lines such as NACM etc... although I have most of their figures. I do think that there's at least one big Lego fan who know's whats out and what's hot and is having some say in what SY release... same with Decool. -
They would look great. Those boxes have always sparked massive nostalgia in me. I still remember crystal clear the Christmas morning I came down to rip open the wrapping paper on my Millennium Falcon. Setting those boxes up would be fantastic. I'd just need to rebuild the 9493 and get hold of one of the newer Chewies to make that X-Wing shot. The Snowspeeder is another great one to do.

Regulators are Here to Put You Back on Schedule!

Good luck... you're gonna need it! ;) (How long do you think we can keep this up?) -
The build on this looks fantastic and the lighting is really well done. There's something very eerie about the whole scene. I'm amazed there hasn't been some kind of meltdown over the amount of OT Stormtroopers there are on display on this thing! ;)

I'm a graphic designer. Worked as Creative Director of an agency for a few years before leaving and eventually setting up myself. So technically I'm the director of a Limited company... of one person. ;)

Well it's now on the UK S@H and it's £169.99 which is the same as the X-Wing.

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

I actually thought the quality of the accessories on the Lele set was excellent. I have a SAS Squad that I put together with Si-Dan accessories, Citizen Brick head etc and the belt with holster on the Lele set actually holds the pistol better than the Si-Dan version so I replaced them. Gas Masks are identical quality and the tactical vests are also very good. The quality of the weapons and other items on the moulds was really good too... on both SY and Lele. SY have very good printing quality and mirror actual Lego designs were possible but I'm not a fan of Lele's figures... either from the design, printing or plastic point of view. I tend to just replace these with actual Lego figures. I paid £2.80 for the 4 SY and around £5 for the Lele so not bad for 12 figures worth of accessories, armour and weapons. Ordered my GOTG, Green Goblin and Venom figures form the same person I ordered my Hulkbuster. Looking forward to those arriving along with the FF set. -
SHIELD & HYDRA Custom Printed Arms
Robianco replied to Robianco's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Bit of both really... They popped up on my Flickr feed so I wanted to share them (I'm not affiliated or linked with the customiser in any way). I've made joint orders in the past with EB members from BL to keep shipping costs down or when a seller has a large minimum order so wondered if there were any others in the UK so may be interested in ordering. Again... if this is the wrong forum section or the topic is against any rules then I'm happy for it to be moved or deleted. -

They're Dark Purple... mine all arrived last week and the nice thing is they were all boxed which is a rarity. I'm not sure why that reviewer would think that Decool would put out a better printed version than Sheng Yuan. Maybe if they do I'd hope the head would be double sided but seeing as they already have trouble with Tony Stark's head I don't hold out much hope. On a side note mine all had the right arms, hands and legs. I ordered 3 sets with a view to selling all but 2 of the figs on to recoup my outlay on them and the figures were all pretty identical with regards to print quality. The arms do have the Lego connector mould now and the shoulders are not quite as thick but I still used the arms I had ready. The dark purple cape I ordered from BL unfortunately was very colour faded so I'll be getting a new one but the bat is in his hand now and the ZEA figure looks great. I'm really happy with it and glad it didn't cost me £150. While the detailing of the worn headband is a nice touch on the original I'll never display them without the cowl so it's no particular miss that the SY doesn't have it. The scowl and stubble also look really good on the versions I received. I was worried that the purple cowl wouldn't be the same purple as the legs or hands for some reason... maybe a slight transparency to the plastic but it's bang on. Another reason I'm really happy with it. The Tumbler version will be a placeholder until I get the actual Tumbler UCS set. Along with the custom pad printed Arkham torso I ordered from a customiser in Australia and my recent Sinestro Corps Batman, my Batman collection is rising... with the 2015 sets I think there'll be well over 20 variations... -
Hi all, I just wanted to flag some great printed arms for HYDRA and SHIELD that have been printed by NACM Customs: http://www.nacm-customs.com You get a right black arms with red printed HYDRA logo for your Red Skull etc and a black printed arm with white SHIELD logo for Black Widow etc... they also print dark green arms with both having yellow HYDRA logos for our goons. I'm looking at making an order but postage seems to be flat rate of €6.50 which is the cost of 2 sets of arms. Are there any UK based people here that would be interested in making an order and splitting the postage? First class should be 93p in the UK so once they're here se just add that factor in and split between ourselves? I wasn't sure whether this should be in the Customisation Workshop or the Buy Sell Trade section? Happy to have it moved if it's in the wrong place... I just thought it might be right here due to the customisation of figures. If interested please PM me. Cheers

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

That Ninja Turtles set has been out for a while now... loads of sellers on eBay or AliExpress have them. If you do start buying some sets then you'll find out which way to go quality wise. -

There are so many of those Decool Hulk figures around to work with though... The SY Hulk has removable hair which makes it more flexible for modding. -

Rather than the printing being raised I's say it was the mould itself and the white is simply printed onto the raised parts.... at least that's what it looks like... -

I don't find one source particularly cheaper than another unless you find a seller on eBay and get some auction style listings that stay low. Mostly the Buy It Now stuff can be comparable to the Ali listings. I've never had a shipment go missing from either source. I think Ali sellers genuinely send their stuff out and it's just down to the postal service... I too have had things from 6 days to nearly 4 weeks from posting date. I take the tracking number with a pinch of salt... But they've always got here. eBay is just familiar and has PayPal to its benefit... I think we all just feel very safe ordering from there. Ideally we'd be able to order from Taobao as that would be the cheapest way by far... But I think that's where our Ali and eBay sellers get their stuff from. Decool's printing does seem to have gotten better but it's still not quite as consistent as SY and their shoulder and hip moulds will always be a (very minor) issue... Although Decool legs fit into Lego hips unlike SY legs. I think SY may have modified their leg joints now to match Lego even closer as well as the arm joints. I got my Punisher etc set a few weeks ago... I actually had Punisher and Bullseye from Muddy River and Decool's aren't as good but that's expected... The Ace card is good though and that's been used and the Taskmaster shield is better than the Lego one... And it's printed. Electro is well done and the head from my Red Skull has been brasso'd for a custom Azazel. SY falcon is better than the Decool one but they're close. Definitely worth picking up though. -
It wouldn't surprise me if the Collector or another of the SDCC figures made an appearance in the same way Bats and GL did but I'm not sure whether the whole 'SDCC Exclusive' thing means they won't release them at NYCC due to an exclusivity agreement.
-
I'm pretty sure someone said it looked very much like Tarples just wasn't listed by name so you'd probably be fine!
-
I'm pretty sure the SDCC Batman and Green Lantern were also given away the same year as Superman and NYTF also had the first Iron Man figure as well as the Bucky Barnes Captain America.
-
I kind of agree... It's just the conversation seemed to point towards Lego doing things on purpose... I think each wave tries to bring a mix of new items as well as redesigns of old sets... But I don't think Lego can win... They need to cater for new fans as well as those collecting the theme over time... And a wide range of ages... As well as covering all aspects of their contracts to promote different things. It would certainly have been easier to keep the design the same and have loads of one type of Stormie but we can't change the fact that for one reason or another they're different.

Ha... there's the tricky one! Apparently from the recent reviews from Digger318 the arm joints are now identical to Lego so I'm hoping that the shoulder size should be better... they do seem to be altering their moulds or even acquiring Lego ones from somewhere. I think I may just have to live with Mr Fantastic and the trans red Human Torch too! -
Lego may have been asked to design them differently full stop. A decision was made to change the style of the CW stuff when it could easily have been the same... consistency of style with regular Jedis etc. I don't think all these design decisions are made by Lego and I don't think they're made with any kind of plan to upset people. They have products to sell either in support of films or TV series or as stand alone sets based on the SW universe in general. Someone either at Lego or Disney or Lucasfilm decided they wanted them to be different for Rebels... that's all.

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

I grabbed one of those for around the same price. I just replace the minifigures with official Lego and sell them on eBay. Some of the accessories have been useful in putting together a little custom set of classic 80s SAS minifigures with Citizen Brick Dark Bley balaclava heads. I still have the best of intentions to create a balcony similar to the Iranian Embassy for them to rappel down onto! For the GOTG I'm still undecided to go with that seller... dropping the price so quickly several times and with 75% rating with only 2 feedback doesn't fill me with confidence. I'm sure as soon as they ready to hit the shelves there'll be tons of them and they'll be sent out the same time as he gets his stock. Fingers crossed for you! -

I always replace the arms and hands on my SY figures anyway as the shoulders are a little too wide. I actually try to replace any part possible with official Lego pieces. Even if they turn up with the right arms etc I'll still be changing it on the one I keep. The purple cape on the official ZEA figure is a standard purple cape without the Batman scalloping although the CGI image and the image on the packaging for the SDCC release has a scalloped cape. As I was ordering stuff from BL I thought I'd add a few pieces I needed just to make it look official... like also having a baseball bat from the Simpsons figures for him. -

The quality on the Decool Phoenix set with Black Widow / Joker etc was pretty good but I must say that the Avengers set Praiter Yed mentioned was far superior as most of the SY releases are... at least the more recent ones (we can rule out their early Superman, Spiderman and Iron Man sets). The Hulk on that set was great... the Nick Fury has been modded now with a Citizen Brick eye patch head and I've modded hair to make a classic Nick Fury. The print on the one I received was perfect. I have to say that the recent Decool Iron Man set (with Mark 1) was also a big improvement on their figures. I even replaced a couple of SY figures in my HOA with those and they easily updated their older versions of the same armour. I had a set of the SY SWAT arrive today that I paid £2.88 for with free shipping. I have to say that the quality of the print was excellent again... especially those that followed Lego designs and the recent Young Justice was another excellent set. Artemis in that set was a superb figure although they're all copied from EclipseGrafx designs. I did have to replace the bow with a compound bow from Brickforge as that's what the original EG version had. If SY keep up this level of print then I have no reason to think that the Fantastic Four set (which I've had confirmation was shipped to me today) should be the best I need to look for. Muddy River has produced a set of figures but at $75 for 3 figures I'm looking to put that money towards a UCS Tumbler. I've actually got yellow arms and purple hands waiting for my ZEA figure as well as a purple cape... but the printing I've seen so far on the other figs tells me that SY still have the edge on quality over all their 'competitors'. I just really look forward to seeing what SY have in store next. There's probably a couple of waves before they clone all the DC stuff coming out in January. The quality on the SW stuff they do isn't as high on the Superheroes range they have... which is a shame as if they got things on par then they could bring out some great figures... Imagine if SY bring out a set of aliens from the Cantina such as Dr Evazan?
