Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?
Robianco replied to KingPixels's topic in Community
^ Agreed. They don't look too bad at all. There's a few waves I think I'll pick up if I can get them cheap enough... If the figs themselves don't work out then hopefully there'll be enough parts in there to help out in customs. -

There's already a transparent Invisible Woman custom out there... I can remember who posted it.... With regards to bootleg Stormtroopers... I actually think these look quite good: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lot-of-5-Custom-Star-Wars-STORMTROOPER-Army-mini-figure-minifigs-Bricks-w-gun-/231316688793?pt=UK_Construction_Toys_Kits&hash=item35db8c8f99 -

The Peter Venkman head is ideal for RR... It's double sided too although it's a shocked face rather than angry face on the reverse. The Johnny Storm is great and really matches the Moonh80 Human Torch game design figure. -
Just picked up The Phantom from John Lewis for £12

I think we sometimes forget that these companies are just in it to make a profit and basing their figures from existing designs is maybe a safer way for them to get sales in their target market. We've just been spoiled a little by the fact that some of their quality can be very good and they often put out products that are close to those of custom mining makers and not just clones of Lego figures. I also think that with the amount of waves they produce it won't be long before they've put out all of the current line of figures and that'll leave them with no choice but to produce new figures or at least clone a lot of the custom figures that are out there. -

I'd still be thinking its Nebula if it wasn't for the leaf piece on the side! Why would it be anything other than Groot? If they make a standard fig of Groot but maybe with the Woody arms and legs then I think that would be another coup from the bootleggers and the 'no' brigade would have to take another look! -

Well there's a couple of copies of Onlinesailin figures there (GI Joe)... I'm actually quite hopeful about those. The Silver Surfer looks crap as a SS figure but as a custom fig it might offer something... Same as the torso on the black ninja. In a quiet spell I'm going to give at least a couple of them the benefit of the doubt. But defo not the Wolverine! :) -

I think we've kind of kept up to date pretty well with things especially as there was some catching up to do as a lot of sets were released before the thread was opened. We know there are quite a few new sets coming from SY and the new Decool set with the X-Men... we'll just have to be patient with those and wait for them to hit. SY normally just put stuff out without us knowing and at least we know there's a GOTG and LOTR wave coming... who knows what else. I would also expect them to clone most of the new January wave of figures once they hit the shelves although I'll be picking up the official stuff. -
I'm off to the Liverpool store for this years 'event' on the 22nd. There wasn't a huge amount of discounts last year and I walked away with the Haunted House... Along with the various promo and freebie items. Not sure what to expect in reductions for large sets this year as I've already picked up the Tumbler, Sandcrawler and Ewok Village. Looking forward to seeing Slave 1 though.

The torso doesn't look too bad... The print goes through the hip joint so it would be better if Lego legs fit the Doll hips. The Luke Cage torso looks ok so I'd recommend picking up a real head off Bricklink as they're quite cheap then switch the legs over to genuine Lego. I'm actually tempted to pick up the Green Arrow and keep my fingers crossed the legs match up to the Decool torso... Or better still hope for a good torso print too. -
I bought the Haunted House at last years VIP event... It's still one of my favourite sets!

I've sold quite a few. Just spares from sets I picked up cheap when there was only one in the set I wanted. I tend to make a large listing and put them all on for £1.50 each. I clearly mark them as Lego compatible and not genuine Lego... I also did that with the new ZEA figure... Although I added the Cape and bat on those and listed it for quite a bit more. -
I got that little Christmas Workshop freebie with the UCS Tumbler last week so I'm not sure if that's just meant to be limited to December. The VIP event is also at the end of November so it kind of leaves December as just a regular shopping month. No need to do any special promotions when people are shopping like mad anyway and your biggest licensed line doesn't hit the shelves until January 1st.

Even with Episode 7 coming out there'll still be plenty of OT sets in future waves along with Rebels.

I'm assuming the second one is another theme. I'm not sure of any other exclusives due though...
-
Well it looks like I'll get a chance to see the UCS Slave 1 for myself next month. Invite just came through for the VIP Event at my local Lego store and there'll be 2 January 2015 exclusives there. I'm assuming one of those will be Slave 1... I'm not sure what the second one will be.

Really great MOC of the Cantina. I actually bought a second one in a sale to give me a fighting chance of putting something larger together... maybe nothing this size but at least something with a full band. This looks great though and the vibrancy of the Cantina is really captured here... although it actually looks like a fun place to drink as opposed to the den of iniquity that it was in ANH. With regards to the comment on the photoshop work I'd have to agree... just leave the white cloth showing. You can always take up the brightness and contract or just select the white areas and do the same to 'bleach' them out a bit. I wouldn't let those kind of things detract from displaying such a good looking build.

Whatever filth you and your figures get up to is your own business! -

I've had all kinds of issues with shipping to Italy... I actually don't ship there if I sell anything. With this though sometimes it's worth asking the seller if they'll ship to you. There have been a few sellers that list the UK on their list of places they won't ship to but when I've asked they've said they'll happily ship to me. Always worth asking! -
UCS Tumbler. May as well take advantage of double points!

I'm really not seeing anything in that set worth the price. If the bootleg gods smile down on you and you get a decent print on the Dark Phoenix torso and the Luke Cage then it's partially worth it if you get them at a low enough price. Not sure about Luke's silver cheek bones though! ;) -

I've never had any customs issues with them. I made an order of 10 sets of the three Thing colours and arrived no problem. Whether that was luck I'm not sure but I've never had that luck with BL orders from the US! -

Parcel arrived this morning with 2 Hulkbusters in it. So I've got a spare if anyone in the UK is looking for one. £2 + postage or it'll hit eBay. -

Brickmamba posted an image of the SY Superman set that had the legs replaced around a week ago... It got that set around a year or so ago but the shoulders on the recent image showed that they'd been rounded. Does anyone know if SY updated this set with newer torso shape? If so I might be tempted to pick another set up.
