Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?
Robianco replied to KingPixels's topic in Community
I definitely think we're all getting a little spoilt when we start complaining that a bootleg company doesn't design and produce a minifigure custom moulded head for a Groot minifigure that has never been produced yet. The mould they've used actually doesn't look that bad and I'd wait to see the figure in 'person' before saying whether it does or doesn't work. You never know... it may turn out much better than you think! :) I'll be picking a set up and giving some GOTG figures to a kid I know who would love GOTG Lego but whose family just doesn't have the disposable income to pick up those sets... I think that's kind of the point of bootleg figures. -
I wouldn't really take anything by that shape. Whoever it is it I hope it's not another classic yellow variant!

The Decool set is OK. Ronan is pretty good as is Nebula. Drax is surprisingly good with arm print etc. overall though the Guardians print especially on the legs isn't that great on close inspection. Hopefully the SY set is up to their usual high SH standard and I can swap Decool heads over. -

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

Hopefully some of the sellers on AE can confirm that their sets have the correct legs rather than just old stock. The SY SDCC Spidey with the Decool head does look very good now the legs are the right shape. The 2099 Spidey also looks better although I've now got Christo's version. The alternate Venom may also be slightly better now too. I'm definitely going to pick up a GOTG SY set with that Groot... Extra Nova officer and Sakaaran will be useful too! -

I quite like the look of those too... the crates are worthwhile but I'll probably brasso the print off. The figures are normally not that great in quality but each of those accessories is normally $1 each so add that up and the price is very worth it. I normally pick up relatively cheap Lego torso, legs and heads and then they're actually pretty good figures. -

Do you have a link to their store? -
I didn't expect it would be down that quick! Glad it's been stopped though.

I've just reported the auction. I'm assuming you've reported it as infringing your intellectual property? Fingers crossed with more people reporting it the auction will be stopped.

^Agreed. I really like that idea. I hope it's something like that rather than Sabine with her helmet!

A creature in the dark - BabaYagas hutt
Robianco replied to Legonardo's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
As soon as I saw the name I was straight onto this thread. Ever since Mike Mignola introduced Baba Yaga to me through Hellboy she's been a fantastic 'character' in my mind. The twisted nature of the build fits with that image perfectly and like everyone else I'm in awe of that roof work. Excellent build! -
Well the Slave One that's coming out is a UCS model and close to mining scale so not a successor as such for the 8097 set. There's a strong rumour that the next UCS set after that will be a TIE although there's no confirmation whether it's a standard TIE, Interceptor, Advanced etc... the 9492 Standard TIE is pretty much mining scale anyway but they may like the thinking that the UCS TIE would sit well with the Red Five UCS X-Wing..

I think 1st January is usually the date for the UK. At least that's the date for Slave One anyway so I imagine the rest of the wave will be out then too.

They've been editing and messing about with the EU for a long time before Disney... Fett's background is a prime example. I think most people still consider things such as Zahn's work to be a valid part of SW lore... whether the SW team at Disney directly access it or not. It's such a large universe with so many people adding to it that it's difficult to keep track. If we look at how Lucas handled the PT I don't think we can worry about whether Disney need to do any better. It is what it is. I personally though the Jedi's were poorly written in the PT... they were weak and just generally a bit rubbish. Same as the character development as a whole. I never cared what happened to Anakin at all... didn't care about his fall to the Dark Side... his relationship with Padme... any of it as it was handled so badly. I actually think the whole character of Jango was a massively ham fisted attempt at having a Fett character shoehorned into the PT for no reason other than people think Boba Fett is cool. The Clones were an easy way to get an army built but then the OT kind of points at Stormtroopers being recruited and are individuals rather than a massive gathering of the same clone... and the way it was put together as a shiny CGI-fest also didn't work for me... The battle of Yavin was hairy blokes shaking a box with Mark Hamill sat in it pretending to be flying in space... and it worked better than the whole battle above Naboo with a 6yr old flying a fighter into a control ship and ultimately winning the 'war'. As yet the universe hasn't been expanded upon by Disney except for 5 episodes of Rebels and that's only introduced a few people that could easily have fit in with any timeline. Episode VII will be the clearest view of what their vision will be. 30 years into the future pretty much puts it beyond the Thrawn trilogy in regards to time so there'll be no overwriting of that (I include Thrawn Trilogy as along with Shadows of the Empire I consider it pretty much canon whether Disney includes it or not)... We all know Luke falls to the Dark Side at some point and is then redeemed. The rumours of storyline are still very much blurred at the moment so we don't know where it will go. I think we need to give it time... let them do their thing. I think the comments about Lucas being all powerful and doing what he likes is right. Ultimately it WAS his... and he could... and did.. do things the way he wanted it... whether WE liked them or not. (No... Greedo did not shoot first and Jabba's palace was not a cabaret). The Clone Wars was actually better then the PT for me... but I'm not going to worry about it being cancelled... or whether it's considered canon or not... I'm just waiting to see what happens on the big screen next and where Han, Luke, Leia et al take us.

I think it's more the nature of simply stating 'It's Disney so it's rubbish' across several threads that people may consider trolling. Maybe explaining what it is about Disney that makes you dislike it and what difference you think it will mean to the SW universe would make people think differently...

DC Comics: Justice League vs. Bizarro League
Robianco replied to Cagast's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I quite like the look of that... and while it's not always a sign of Lego including them in sets it's nice to have a different Bizarro to the SDCC as part of the Lego universe as it's different enough to be able to appear. Same as with Guy Gardner being there. Although the Bizarro world WW, GG and Cyborg aren't of as much interest to me it would be great to have an official Bizarro to go with Batzarro. I've never really considered Bizarro a completely evil character anyway so teaming up the the JLA looks fine to me. -
Yeah... it looks like the whole of Dengar's backpack is included in those extra pieces. After that I think they'll be just spares such as the technics pins

There's a perfect example of how good Lucas is at keeping a movie franchise going... it's called Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Disney know how to make films... whether that's an animated adventure (Pixar or otherwise) or live action (Pirates of the Caribbean etc)... they've hired a good director and the simple matter of creating physical models and environments instead of simply adding things onto green screen afterwards warms my heart. The 'I hate Disney so it's all crap' will get boring very quickly.
-
I think as it's only 5 episodes in I'm happy to just concentrate on the 'team' for now... we've already had glimpses of the expansion of characters with Bail Organa... and we know Tarkin will appear so it keeps it's links to the film world in spots... as well as the fantastically misfiring E-11 Blaster pistol (I'm sure they make the beam shoot off in odd directions as a joke now). I'm kind of glad we have a close knit group who are still making their way and doing what they can to strike out against the Empire... and I'm glad the development of Ezra isn't too quick (although judging by some of his mind control feats he's a quicker learner than Luke was). There are characters such as some of the trainees at the Imperial Academy that have been (mildly) introduced now so it'll be interesting to see if they show up with some kind of grudge against Ezra in the future once they graduate... and whether Zare becomes a dark side force user... At least we see some of the friendships formed that sadly lacked during the whole PT.

I'd love to reply to this (in complete agreement by the way) but the conversation is unfortunately way off topic... Hopefully this is something that can be carried on in Culture & Multimedia...

That would be the one I set up for Jangosolo... it's on my Flickr. Nice to see you posting again by the way! -
Good evening chaps and chapesses, My sister is headed over to Las Vegas on Sunday for a week or so and has offered to bring back a set or two for me to the UK. Question is... Is there anywhere in particular that would be good for her to visit for any deals? US prices are much better than UK anyway so it might be a good opportunity to snap something up. Possibly the latest Hobbit range? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
