  1. Thanks for the share, BD... I also didn't know about this set. It's not a bad looking build at all.
  2. I must admit the more I look at the Rebels Stormtrooper the less it bothers me. I still think once this wave is out and you can look at 8 or so of them together I think they'll look fine.
  3. Looking at that tail section in isolation doesn't make it look great. But given the patched up nature of Slave One I actually don't mind it as part of the whole set. The best thing about parts of the SW Universe (At least the OT) was that vehicles looked worn... like they were actually being used... and Slave One was no exception. Yes it's blocky but this is Lego... and despite the best efforts of some great Lego designers (and MOCers) there are going to be some issues in generating a smooth flow over that curved shape... with the exception of creating specific curved pieces as mentioned. I think the brief being to make it sturdy right throughout it's shape meant that things such as angled plates were ruled out of the design process.
  4. I think we're all entitled to an opinion... and this forum is the place to give them (if not here then where else?!) I actually spotted that side canopy issue straight away and in my head I though... 'Wow... that's wrong.' But then again I've loved Slave 1 since I was a kid... So many of the SW ships are favourite of mine... the Falcon, TIE Fighter, Snowspeeder, Slave One... I'm sure there'll be a way of extending that canopy to dover the support beam in a similar way to 8097 (although on there it just kind of reached it rather than covered it) but I agree... it should at least be open rather than a closed off area... however shallow we can make it. The rest of the ship more than makes up for this though... one, the fact it's happening. Two, the scale of it as it's pretty much minifig scale give or take a couple of studs and Three, the overall design and shaping of quite a difficult array of slopes and curves. That's before we mention the minifigs which are just a nice addition to a set of this kind. Although I do have my Arealight jetpack just to make the Fett figure definitive (if people don't have one of these I recommend picking one up) along with a Brickarms replica of Fett's blaster. Normally I just kind of let people's criticism of sets wash over me... especially on smaller £10-£20 sets... it's a kids toy. If Kids like it then that's actually all that matters. I made vehicles for my SW figs out of cardboard, lollyice sticks and glue when I was a kid.. it didn't matter they never appeared in a SW film... something I've seen people comment on here. But UCS sets are a little more of a nod to AFOLs and as such should meet our 'standards'.
  5. The wings DO rotate with gravity exactly as they do with 8097. Just watch the second video posted above. The issue seems to be a visual one that the support beams for the wings seem to attach to the dark green side canopies rather than be covered by them. It's probably something that I may try to modify myself but it doesn't affect the functionality of the mechanism. The interior may have been sacrificed to keep the stability of the ship high. It's an odd shaped vessel and the ability to pick it up from all areas/angles is impressive. I think some peoples frustrations with criticism is an apparent focusing on an element of the design that seems to dismiss the set as a whole. Getting the set in the first place is hard enough and so much of the build is excellent. I think some people can be too quick to criticise the Lego designers but 99% of us don't need to create a build that has part / financial limitations that also has to take some of the stability issues into account. For one reason or another they make the decisions they do. The beauty of Lego is that we can all make small changes where we feel them necessary. Some of the mods I've seen on 10179 MF greatly improve it in my opinion but there's no reason to believe that the original retail set was somehow poorly done or flawed in any way. It's just that even the largest of sets can have limitations imposed for various reasons.
  6. I think we were all prepared for a release of some kind as the SDCC figure wasn't one of the exclusive figs and was just in one of the sets... Same as the Batman and Robin from the Juniors Batcave. Bard also wasn't listed as exclusive so we were expecting him to appear too. GA is a variant. It looks like the torso has some of the same design but the head and legs are different and there's no hood. Same as the Symbiote Spiderman Torso was used on Venom. Whether that means the Collector will appear is debatable. Maybe a variant in a year or two but not the same one.
  7. Tesco Direct has the Lego Star Wars 'The Dark Side' book for £7. Turns out I had several vouchers from Clubcard points and ended up with it for £4.50 which is worth it for the Emperor figure alone.
  8. Grabbed a second Cantina set to expand it and get a full band. Created a Wuher from BL pieces too. Nice to have 2 Dewbacks also... I'll sell the speeder and other figs.
  9. I actually think that's the right cowl for ZEA isn't it?
  10. They can't be far away from some of bigger sellers on there then. GOTG must also be close for release if people are taking pre-orders for them.
  11. I just reinstalled LDD and grabbed the LXF file of the troop transport. I tried to find a way of exporting a list of parts for Bricklink but I'm Mac based and can't find a way of creating short of actually typing in all the parts and quantities. I've found a site that gave me a list of parts from uploading your LXF so I may have to go that route. After that I plan on making the MLC-3 and Endor Forest Ranger.
  12. Ah yes... I remember it well! Do you think the 'wings' would be achievable as plates rather than snotted bricks? It's the only thing throwing me on it. I just remember them being thin so the thickness somehow doesn't seem right on it. The shape and everything else is great.
  13. I'll happily concede that for Lego purposes a 2-man MLC-3 is the way to go. Another lovely addition to the mini rig family. I take it you're planning on creating brick versions of each of these?
  14. I think SY have taken a slightly different stance on their bigfigs in that the head is removable and can rotate... you can also add hair to them (if you felt like putting their Hulk hair on it). It's a different way of looking at it but I hope it means they plan on doing a lot more and they're probably more in the spirit of Lego in that they're interchangeable and not just static moulds like actual Lego. I agree it looks a little odd at first... also the moulded brow part of the head from the Decool version is also missing... I'll have to see how that printed version looks on the SY one. The detailing of the 'stone' effect on Thing looks pretty impressive though.
  15. My biggest issue with the quoted text there was the perennial issue... That customisers are designing the figures and putting all the work in. A lot of customiser's figures are stolen designs from Lego games... That's their appeal... You can't judge bootleggers as any different when that happens. People like Phoenix have only done completely original designs though so that would be a theft of their IP.
  16. They've all printed silver at some point... Silver Surfer is different though... The figure would need to be chromed and I don't think the bootleggers are going that far yet. MH80, who is a customiser, has chromed and printed Winter Soldier's arm and there's minifigures.pl chrome all their figures. I think it's a step too far to ask bootleggers to go that far right now. There's nothing on those images of the SY set that tells me the QC is off. They look pretty good to me! The SS is at least a kind of silver and not just light bley.
  17. Can the AT-DP actually be considered obscure if it appears in a TV series that hasn't aired past the pilot episode yet? And why would the fictitious members of the Lego team be trying to remember it off the top of their heads if it's part of the promotion for the previously mentioned TV series that is being heavily marketed and one of the main vehicles that's been shared with the Lego design team via various concept art stages from Disney? Personally the Womp Rat mould doesn't bother me... If you asked me for a mould for the Tusken head or the Womp Rat I'd take the Tusken head... although I kind of agree with Caedus that it wasn't really necessary. The Womp Rat is a largish rodent... kind of like the mould we already have... and is only there as it was referenced as being something that could be hit from the T-16 if you're a half-decent shot. The T-16 actually looks pretty good to me and it's one of the sets I'll be picking up... this wave is actually selling the Rebels wave to me... although I'm still not convinced by the Ghost. The Tie Prototype is a lovely looking ship and looks like a good build... I also like that tan variation on the Imperial Officer. The AT-DP also looks nice and the yellow doesn't bother me at all... I'm sure they're there due to concept art also. Nice to get a new rebel helmet design to add to the collection... I'll need two of those... one for Hoth and the other for Gold Squadron in the Battle of Yavin (although that means picking up another Microfighter X-Wing for the torso and leg print). Shadow Troopers Battlepack is also a must buy... sod what's canon and what's not. They look good. I think the Sabine figure looks pretty good... and her hair piece looks good also... but yes... it does mean that we'll probably be looking at a more expensive set to pick up her helmet though. We've got 2 Ezras and 2 Kanans now... we'll obviously have multiples of the other Rebels in future waves and with it will bring Sabine in her helmet. Seeing as I'll have the AT-DP and TIE Advanced there's no point in hiding from the ITT either... those Stormies are actually not bothering me as much as some anyway. The AT-AT Microfighter is monstrously cute and I like the idea of a second AT-AT pilot for 75054. CW and PT thankfully isn't on my radar so I can pass those by!
  18. Maybe no bells and whistles but it still encompasses the mini rig perfectly! I'm loving all of these... my nostalgia for my old sets is off the scale looking at these!
  19. Even though there's only a bottom section of that SC shown on the image why do I get the feeling you've built the whole thing?! Great MOC as always, Markus... Totally different feel to the build from round 1 but just as epic. Really nicely done!
  20. I've got a feeling we'll get a nice print but I fear it'll be light bley... I hope I'm wrong... Better than nothing though!
  21. Set ordered! Looking forward to these arriving now! The hair change on RR is also a big plus point over Decool not to mention the boot printing!
  22. SY wins! Ha! Ordering those now.... I was tempted to pick up a custom set of 3 but they were $75... Giving us these with extended legs and some new figures is a no brainer.
  23. Do you mean he combined the figs? I think he's just cropped the figure out of the official photo of the set. There's no Shadow Guard in that image unless TLG has duplicated things. Well at least I know when Slave 1 is landing so I can plan any purchases around that. I think it looks absolutely fantastic... I'm really interested to see what kind of modding more experienced builders than I get up to with creating an interior but I think the stability of that model is down to the framework inside which may not leave much room for anything else.
  24. The second set I got had the good legs on them... Besides, the NYTF figure has plain dark red legs and can easily be swapped out for official ones to make it that bit closer. I don't get these sets for official figures (at least those that don't cost £100s) so I just give the iffy leg ones away.
  25. It's actually one of the early SY Iron Man figures. I ordered another set not so long ago and got another one. Here's the set: http://www.aliexpres...1929535204.html They've done you the favour of removing the helmet on the pic! ;) I actually also think this set is worth it for a couple of other figures including a War Machine in Light Bley (as long as you get a good print).
