  1. So, can we assume other users with large or distracting sigs will be asked to alter theirs? ie (from a random thread): computerbug, Peppermint_M, legolooney Even if they are, "not so much rules as...guidelines" there does need to be some sort of consistency in their application. :)
  2. I would prefer parts for the flexibility of design an building possibilities but also for the economics. I suspect it would be cheaper to package and ship smaller parts rather than large constructions. For every box of prefab track I imagine they could ship 10-20% more as parts.
  3. Answers - a) regularly - minimum four times per year - VicLUG events (public hobby show, model railroad show, local museum show) and BrickCon - MOCing, layout design, logistical support (tables, event planning, etc) - MOCing done alone (often to a cooperative display standard) all other tasks shared - All I have done in LEGO fandom has been because of/in conjunction with my membership in VicLUG - all volunteer - I have never even heard of being given brick to use to build for an event. What a strange idea.
  4. Fantastic truck. I love the box in the back and the trailer is a really nice touch. Now to figure out how to get a gun rack in the back window...
  5. Having actually seen Toy Story I have to say the "official" Buzz head is spot on. I don't see how MB enters the picture when creating licensed figures.
  6. I am totally stoked about the release of the iPad. I finally get the PADD from Star Trek:TNG!
  7. Hmm, to me it makes them look more like the long military jacket/tunic with a red belt overall. It actually looks more historical than having a short jacket/tunic that is cut above the hip.
  8. My wife stole some of my bats to try something and then made her own bricklink order so she could make stuff like this for Halloween: It was actually kinda fun helping her drill the holes.
  9. I think you missed when this piece was revealed in an earlier set. It is also not a "headlight" brick but rather a modified "Travis" brick . Notice there is no recess or indentation of the side surface as in the headlight/washing machine brick.
  10. Nope not alone. Welcome from the Left Coast.
  11. Curious? It was supposed to be a joke. "I knew we should have taken that left turn at Volgograd." There were other little jokes hidden in the scene and a can can line of sigfigs at one point. We were having a good time.
  12. Actually green shirts would not really be appropriate for this. They would be great for Marines in the Pacific Theatre but this is what a US Infantryman would look like on Omaha Beach: Check out the Operation Bricklord discussion for more on US uniforms.
  13. About 15 years ago when I was young and doing SCA heavy fighting, six of us were hired to do a "fight scene" for a locally produced kids show that was a cross between Doctor Who and The Lion the With and the Wardrobe. I was one of "King Arthur's Guards" who fought with Mordred's henchmen (or something like that.) I also served as the body double for the old witch who did not want to get close to the cliff overlooking a waterfall. The show was called Time Exposures and it was before digital video and YouTube. I am sure no one ever thought it worth the time to transfer to digital media. Our local SCA group was also hired as extras in a local real estate company commercial. We reprised the fight scene in the background while "villagers" danced around the handsome real estate agent.
  14. One of the best sci-fi series ever! A universe where the laws of physics apply and aliens are actually "alien". It was brilliant but the on-again, off-again final season ended up being a bit of a disappointment for me. The corps is mother, the corps is father.
  15. Great article, thanks for the translation! I will add the link to the BW article when I get a chance. I was the last to edit that article and left the original link hoping that LEGO would reinstate the page. I guess I should change it to use an internet archive version.
  16. I finally have a decent picture of the Baron Stackton's men from BrickCon: Not all of them, but at good chunk with the Baron and his trusty dog.
  17. I know this would be a lot more complex but what if you did something like the one above but with a second "trench" suspended above the first? A box not nearly so deep with enough clearance so that little hands could reach to the main trench underneath. Just kinds thinking out loud.
  18. Funny thing, I was totally against stickers a while back but now I am starting to appreciate them more. Especially in the licensed themes. I like not having a piece limited by it's print and at the same time I can think of alternate uses for stickers. That said, in general I would rather have printed torsos. :)
  19. The cost is the reason my LUG recently spent some money to make blue tablecloths so that we can have a blue surface without having to cover it all in plates.
  20. I'd like to add my "vote" for "Best Daleks" I have yet seen. There have been several versions posted here and other places but yours are the best proportioned and detailed so far.
  21. Someday, when I am lucky enough to have a LEGO room I want to use some of these sort of foam rubber mats for wall(s) and maybe even flooring: I have something like this on the cement floor of my crawl space (which holds the bulk of my brick) and it makes crawling around much easier.
  22. Thanks for the update.
  23. Wow, what's the story on doing such an interesting display? Were you asked to do this by someone? Is it in association with a LUG and/or a special event? What are on the paper clippings on the side panels? I like the background painting(?) It really makes the display come alive.
  24. Love the use of the "stained glass" in the stern and the figurehead. I am also pleased to see the sloped tumblehome for a change of pace. It has a different look to the hinged sides that seems to be ubiquitous recently.
  25. Added to the BrickWiki Gazeteer. I love the busy streets, the town Xmas tree and the lava flow in front of the Toy Shop. Every town needs a good disaster! A great way to integrate roadplates together is to use plate-built sidewalks. It holds them together and makes them look like they belong together. It also helps define the road. Two-high, seven studs wide is a good standard.
