Or maybe just use an already established wiki like BrickWiki? BW already has a functional framework and decent article base. It just needs a few more contributors to really get the project going again and ANYBODY can be a contributor. You don't have to write big articles or even know all that much about wiki markup. Give it a try.

Say what? Two very different discussions and a shame that other thread was closed. "How to build in X style" is different from "what I like about X style". They clearly share some underlying information but how to build a tram in "classic-town" style is not part of this discussion.

I think when it comes the TLC all you have to do is something, anything. Host an event of some kind or participate as a group in someone else's event. Our first VicLUG event was filling a display case at our city's central public library with our MOCs. I asked at the reference desk, we booked a month (they put new things in every month) and we included some info on display cards in with the MOCs. We did some local toy shows and for the last three years have been in the regional model railroad show. One of our guys became an ambassador and even talked Steve Witt into coming to our display at a shopping mall hobby show. We had a bunch of members @ BrickCon in Seattle last year and should have a bunch again this year. We have never filled out forms or "registered" but TLC knows who we are and what we do. I think just doing stuff as a group is the key.

I think the Damien blade (or cutlass) make a great sword-bayonet for the Riflemen under Richard Sharpe.

Planning to take another vanload across the border this year for sure.

Uhm, no this thread is for the Brodie helmet right? Anyway the Canadian version of the Brodie helmet was almost never seen without the cammo netting during the war so if it was molded right in it would look more accurate.

Fantastic work. Thanks for sharing the "making of" story. I especially liked the way you built one side then copied it. I can see how that would save a lot time and headaches. Good call. Seems silly to increase expense and difficulty just so you can occasionally open a gun port and see a cannon.

Without a doubt THE BEST Star Trek Movie EVER. I will be there opening night for the next one just like I was for I, II, III, IV, V and VI (had kids and they got worse after that). It was action-packed and funny as hell to those of us who grew up with the series. Those classic lines, those outfits...

I totally get that. It's why I build sidewalks for my town MOCs with plates, not tiles. Funny thing is I found 1x4 brown tiles in a PaB wall and got all excited about tiled decks and bought hundreds of them. Always a tough decision.

Sorry, haven't been in a couple of weeks.

What more can I add to the well-deserved praise? I really liked the actual holes for the "heads". I did wonder why a ship named "Prince of Wales" would have a mermaid figurehead?!? You have really demonstrated how it is possible to create a beautiful two-decker on the standard hull-pieces. The stern, that by itself is fantastic. Just the perfect amount of details and decoration. Is that an engraved brick with the name? A fantastic ship and one that will provide inspiration and imitation from lots of builders. I can hardly wait to see the video. I would so love to see a "time-lapse" of this build if it was available.

I wonder if you could not simply include the "net" as part of the process. Obviously it would mostly just be a texture on the helmet but it might look really cool.

What is the baseplate size of the Cafe Corner and Green Grocer
tedbeard replied to Madcat2000's topic in LEGO Town
Nope, I am sure you saw it somewhere but it is yet another label for something that already exists. I am just hoping that we can stop using a half-dozen different terms to refer to the same thing because it is causing confusion. As I wrote above, the " dimensional standards and interlock to each other" is exactly what we are all referring to using different words. If LEGO had just said "XXX is what we are calling this new line of buildings" we wouldn't be having this discussion. Maybe we should have a new discussion thread with a poll to decide what we should call it? CCMS, CC, MHS, whatever? Small edit: I did a search and you are the only person to use CCMS in this post on EB. I wonder where you saw it? I imagine other online communities may be having similar confusion and it would be good to include them in this discussion. -
What is the baseplate size of the Cafe Corner and Green Grocer
tedbeard replied to Madcat2000's topic in LEGO Town
Indeed this whole subtheme generates masses of confusion. TLC identifies the Cafe Corner, Market Street and Green Grocer as all being built within the Modular Houses Standard. However, since the Cafe Corner was the first set released and they don't promote the subtheme in print (or anywhere outside the LEGO Factory sub-site) fans started calling it the Cafe Corner (CC) standard. Some of us in the Classic-Castle community (CC for short) were a little annoyed but what are you gonna do? And of course, Market Street was the only one labelled LEGO Factory and is also the only set featured in that web page. When you go to the LEGO website and try to browse by "theme" or "products" you do not see a "Modular Houses" section and have to find the three sets in three different areas! As things have evolved other terms got used as fans were originally not told that there was a "theme" and had to make it up. Without the "official name" we had to make it up and noone would have thought to use "houses" since we are building more than houses and in fact none of the three sets so far have been just houses! I have seen people talk about Cafe Corner-style, Market Street standard, Green Grocer-style, new-town standard and now we have: WTF are CCMS-standards?!? I know I am tilting @ windmills but soooo much time would be saved if the company and the fans used the same terminology. I try to use MHS (Modular Houses Standard) even if it seems to imply it is only for houses. Anyway, sorry to rant a little, but if someone who is well-informed like Hinckley can be confused then what hope is there for n00bs? Maybe someday we will mostly use the same terminology. -
What is the baseplate size of the Cafe Corner and Green Grocer

The basics of the Modular Houses Standard (aka Cafe Corner style) including connection placement, sidewalk setbacks etc, are available as part of the LEGO Factory website. -
Yikes! I don't know if it is the angle or lighting but the Brodie helmet looks more like a bowler hat than a helmet. It should not have a hat band and the rim seems to be wrong. It looks like it flares upwards too much at the bottom. Back to the drawing board on that one I am afraid. Now that I look again the M1 seems to have a hat band as well. Is this some sort of digital image problem or are your trying to create this effect? Love the French helmet BTW (although it may need a little more neckguard at the back.)

How did I forget that? "Classic" sets use(d) predominantly the "basic" colours: red, blue, yellow, black, white for buildings and vehicles. I remember being almost shocked the first time I saw a green brick. It just seemed wrong somehow.
-
Nothing. Classic town sets are cute and suitable for children or nostalgia but there is nothing about them that inspires me to build in that style unless I want to make something for my kids to play with. Sorry if I am a speed bump in the way of the takeover of the Trains and Town forum by the Classic-Town faction. Good question. I thought we were working on these general guidelines: 4-wide cars vs 6-wide cars facades/three walls vs four walls I thought it was that simple but I could easily be wrong.

Wheels, Wings and Waves - vancouver science world

Apologies for being slightly off-topic but I think you made Joseph's day with that remark. He's our webmaster and put a lot of work into the site and deserves any kudos being offered. -
Nope. Making total sense.

A little big IMO for shipboard guns but awesome for fortress guns.

You are clearly taking the word "Western" out of all context. In the LEGO universe "Western" is clearly a historical theme. Even if you allowed that "Western" was somehow contemporary your thesis would still be flawed as there is nothing distinctly "western" (in the sense of the western portion of North America) in the sets. As has been pointed out, the farm sets represent farms that would be more at home in the eastern portion of North America. Sheesh, the farmer even wears a fedora NOT a cowboy hat. No self-respecting "westerner" would wear a fedora.

Yeah, I understand that but if you have ever been handcuffed the arms rotate partially and the hands are held close to the back. Simply rotating the arms creates a very strange look, more appropriate to a "stress position" as US Army interrogators would describe it. Just thought it might be worth a try and I don't know where my LEGO handcuffs are to try right now.
-
I know, eh? Would that not be amazing if LEGO actually sold these in blue?

I remember watching the coverage on TV and being amazed at the stories that came out like how the SAS basically tossed the hostages from man-to-man to get them out of the building quickly. Anyway, great details and wonderful execution. I agree the fence is a nice touch. I wonder though, if it would be worth trying to reverse the arms on the hostage with handcuffs? Make it look a little less unreal perhaps?
