  1. So your site is not an online community for Irish Fans of LEGO? Kinda like saying Coke and Pepsi are not competing because they are completely different drinks.
  2. What was the point of this exactly? As far as I can tell it is a YALF* with no particular purpose. Is this supposed to be meeting the needs of a particular sub-community (ie: DUPLO, Steampunk) or geographic area (ie: Jamaica, South Pacific, Africa)? EB seems to be doing a fine job of a general purpose community. LUGNET is still there (although could use some improving). Flickr hosts a plethora of general and themed communities. I am sure you created this and are promoting it here with the best intentions. At this point however, it looks like you made a cool site to either impress somebody or to compete with existing sites. Looking forward to some clarification. --- * Yet Another LEGO Forum that duplicates existing online communities without offering any specific improvements or meeting any need in the community. See: CC Thread.
  3. Just wanted to say I like the foot rail design. I don't recall seeing that before and it is a nice touch.
  4. I have always found roadplates to be the cheapest option whenever I have tried to price out large amounts of road. Even with sidewalks built up I cannot see how SNOT or tiled roads are cheaper especially considering they are usually built on regular baseplates. Am I missing something? An amazing source of really really cheap brick perhaps? I don't know of any cheaper place than BL or PaB.
  5. That was a crazy race. As the top finishing Canadian noted it was 50 km, 2+ hours and he finished in fifth place as he crossed the line 1.5 SECONDS after the gold medalist. Now that is one tough race.
  6. I store them flattened in the recycling bin. Then the truck comes around once a week and I never have to worry about storing them again. I do have two boxes I am saving but those I hope to mount in acrylic boxes sometime and mount them on the wall as "art".
  7. I think you may be putting the cart before the horse here. Before I would ever send any cash or brick to a charity project I would need to see a couple of important things long before I care what mechanism/accounting details you are using. 1) Track record: where can we see previous projects you have completed? We need to know you can design and build on a large scale. 2) Specify the charity: it makes a difference what the charity is both for the design of the project and for potential donors to decide if they wish to support it. You need to have that decided before you start soliciting donations. 3) Timeline: when would the finished project be delivered to the charity or sold on their behalf? A realistic plan will encourage supporters. An unrealistic guess will scare people away. Looking forward to some answers- which, btw, will probably help solve your original problem. :)
  8. I can hear that Honolulu radio announcer now: "... a Russian spacecraft carrying a famous Hollywood movie star and an experimental robot has disappeared in the middle of the Pacific Ocean..."
  9. I'd have to be on the "not at all interested" side of the ledger here. Why would we want TLC to take over a successful fan-developed theme?
  10. I'll get it "for the kids" and maybe I'll just happen to watch. That's how I watched the LEGO Atlantis cartoon last weekend.
  11. Odd, I am just in the process of creating a BL store and my first lots are incomplete sets/submodels. It may not look like it but you can list "incomplete" sets and I am hoping they will sell. There is also the option of grouping the parts as a "super lot" but that seems too complicated for submodels. I certainly hear what you are saying about wanting parts of some sets. I too would like the upcoming limousine but probably not so interested in the helicopter but maybe someone else would like the helicopter. I think there are people who would be interested in submodels for more than just parts.
  12. Well, maybe a little big but using a 2x2 body gives a lot more room for details. Anyway, I like the treads and he is very emotive. Mine was just a quickie when the movie came out but I still like to put him in our LEGO displays so kids (and parents) can have a giggle at WALL-E in a town scene.
  13. That is really nice. I especially like the the window moldings. And you have some of the rare Cyprus trees! I never got any as a kid and cannot imagine paying the BL price now.
  14. I especially like that it is a corner module with a straight corner. Not curved or angled but a nice 90 degree corner.
  15. I always recommend starting at BrickWiki for newcomers. Explore there for a bit and you will find lots of inspiration and education. To answer your question more directly, MOCs cost nothing - if you already have some LEGO. Anything you build without instructions made by someone else is a MOC.
  16. I was recently searching the intertubes for pics to model a pub on and I think you have captured the essence of a pub wonderfully. The foosball table is such a nice touch and the whole place looks ready for a bunch of regulars to come in for a pint (with the new unbreakable glasses I hope).
  17. Can I just agree with those who have praised this review. Your photos are fantastic - I especially love the one with ALL the parts laid out. Thanks for one of the best, if not THE best review I have seen on EB.
  18. And why on earth would you assume I was talking to you? If I was replying to you directly instead of the thread topic I wold have indicated using an arrow "^" or by quoting you.
  19. Uhm, you do realize there is more to British Columbia than Greater Vancouver right? How about Kaboodles which has stores in Vancouver and Victoria. Here in Victoria there is also Cherry Bomb Toys, BC Shavers and Hobbies, Buddies Toy Store in Oak Bay. I'll have to let people from Nanaimo, Kelowna, Prince George and elsewhere fill in their stores. p.s. Langley is part of the "Lower Mainland".
  20. Sorry, you can't be "uber-purist" and not mix figs if you can mix brick.
  21. Welcome! I lived in Ottawa as a kid so I know how cold and miserable it can be back there this time of year. Living out here in Victoria I do occasionally miss the snow. Nice to have you aboard.
  22. Just FYI BrickWiki has a whole category devoted to the many types of modular building standard if you are interested.
  23. Just FYI, "New Pieces" is not defined as "pieces you personally have not owned before." It means pieces never produced before: new molds, new colours or new printing.
  24. As a guy who spends too much time making sig-figs it seems odd I have not posted in this topic before. I have built many versions of me to accompany things I have built (ie: Castle me - aka Baron Stackton) and things I'd like to build (ie: Steampunk me, Captain Stackton aka "Tedbeard").
  25. Welcome! Looks like a lot of fun. Does your city have a name yet?
