  1. What we really need is something like these NILO mats but in blue.
  2. I would totally want one of these but I would make it 48 studs long to make it the most useful with a special mark at 16 and 32 studs long.
  3. Funny how this topic keeps popping up every six months or so ever since the introduction of the Cafe Corner. No, they don't fit together. Of course, they are not intended to fit together. One is for children who want to play with them and the other style is for those who wish to build more realistic buildings. You might as well compare Duplo Trains to the new Emerald Night set. They are simply intended for different audiences. That said, I am likely to pick up sets in both series for different reasons. As noted above the vehicles in particular can be very good in the "classic" sets. I will certainly pick up the one set for the new bus. The rest of the set will be for parts but I know that bus will stay together for a long time. I am just grateful they make MH sets. I look at it this way: the classic-style are bread and butter, the MH sets are gourmet offerings.
  4. Only two episodes left!
  5. That was kind of annoying wasn't it. Introduce the idea of this "failed" model, give it deep significance and then just ignore it.
  6. It was great. Well, maybe a little long on some of the flashbacks but the battles were fantastic and it ended with what I would call "real" science-fiction. The new series should be a little more action-oriented and less metaphysical (I hope).
  7. I took my family on Wednesday via the 7:00 am ferry. We could only take it until about 11:00 or 11:30 as it was getting too crowded and crazy. In fact we cut short the day @ Science world in general at about 1:30 because it was a zoo. Made for a nice calm visit to IKEA on the way back to Tsawassen and we even caught the 5:00 pm back to the Island.
  8. Great timing for me personally and a great-looking contest. I will be entering and trying to critique. Thanks.
  9. And way off base. Some of us like big, curvy women.
  10. ROBERT!!?!?! No way! Danny is the man for the job! The wife and I are totally addicted to the show and Kitchen Nightmares (although I prefer the British version of Nightmares). BTW I expect Colleen's former students to sue for false advertising after seeing this show.
  11. I have had really good results using an Exacto knife to "shave" printing off yellow heads. It worked horribly on torsos however. Maybe the yellow colour hides the scratches better? I am not sure as I haven't tried a fleshie head.
  12. For my money the best episode of the series is still the very first episode titled 33. Tense, action-packed. Every episode since has been an measured against that for me. Hopefully we get back to something like that for the end.
  13. Our local TRU has virtually no LEGO if you don't count Bionicle. Even if you do they have MAYBE 20% of the amount they have normally. An entire "wall" of shelves that are normally LEGO has been partially-filled with non-LEGO products so the shelves don't look empty. BTW for Corner Gas Fans: I have chewed gum, not read a comic book, not gone for a run and not eaten any licorice so far this year. Not that any of those were on MY resolutions list.
  14. Nice bayonets. BTW it is spelled "beret" - and again, very nice piece.
  15. The example used to start this thread is nonsensical. There was no loss of life and the pilot was clearly a hero for this. This is no more offensive than depicting the inauguration of the President of the United States. Where a line MIGHT be drawn is in glorifying recent deaths or maimings of specific actual people. Depicting a recent act of heroism in no way crosses any line of good taste that I can see.
  16. Beautiful work. I really like the way you incorporated TLC stickers into the design. I also wondered about the wave-motion gun but given the awesome scale perhaps that is too minor a quibble.
  17. The ferry is brilliant! It is so very...LEGO. My last big (for me) project was a ferry as well but it was closer to a scale model style. Although nowhere near an accurate scale model it is far less "LEGO" than your design which is delightful. Totally top-heavy but that just makes it even more fun. I especially love the passenger lounge and am jealous of the lovely blue train doors. I wanted to use blue but ran out of time to bricklink any so I had to use the only doors I had which then changed the accent colour scheme. I still don't have great pictures but you can see what I mean from these:
  18. Well that would certainly be popular with my son who found this thread and is begging me to find a way to get one sent here to Canada.
  19. Was that the Mad TV animated Rudolph as the Godfather? Merry Xmas!
  20. I have to say the choice of covering had me a little dubious as it is not typical of most football stadiums but then I realized what brilliant design choice! Since this (or any such model) is likely to sit for long periods the way it is covered allows it to be viewed (even when covered) and keeps it reasonably dust free. Certainly easier to dust the roof and walls than try to dust the figs in the stands. Great ambition, nice work, best of luck!
  21. You aren't going out in the snow today are you? I cannot tell where the sidewalk ends and the road begins it's so deep! If you do let us know what's at TRU. I still need to get a gift for the VicLUG dirty brickster. Haha, at least my son can get some pics of the snowtroopers he has made in the snow. which is a rare opportunity around here. Oh, and for anyone reading this from Minnesota: we aren't afraid of the dark! [for How I Met Your Mother fans.]
  22. Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the barber shop. I have never seen a cape used that way and it looks really good. The only tip/suggestion I can offer is to try to keep working on avoiding the smooth walls. Look at real buildings up close and see where you can add "texture". You did great job of upgrading the barber shop. Keep making those sorts of improvements and you will have a fantastic town.
  23. 1. RichardAM - Sharkbait 2. General Armendariz - Attack on Port Eldorado! 3. Oky Wan Kenobi - Tower Raid I chose Sharkbait because it really represents the best SMALL MOC. The entire story is encapsulated in this single moment using a minimum amount of elements and yet creating a very emotional and dramatic scene with the trademark humour of an AFOL. The, Attack on Port Eldorado! also brilliantly captured the moment of impact of the cannonball in the midst of a raging battle. The Tower Raid was too large to earn my top vote but it does warrant top spot amongst the several "stacked" MOCs. Again it captures a single moment composed of a number of well done scenes. The drawback for these large-scale entries in the SMALL division is that they are not usually able to integrate all the disparate scenes into a cohesive whole and thus become a collection of separate vignettes that might have done better individually.
  24. Ahhh, nicely done! Thanks for the pic.
  25. As he said, he used "Sculpey" which is a brand-name for a polymer "clay" sold in craft and art stores here in Canada (and I think the US as well). It comes in air and oven-hardening varieties and a number of different colours. BTW Aaron, I thought you had found a way to make a fabric cover for a brodie when I first saw your picture. Adding some netting and foliage effects for some hedgerow fighting would be really cool.
