  1. Speaking of drawings, I scanned the drawings published in 1983. Maybe someday I'll actually get around to trying to build her.
  2. Looking forward to seeing what progress you have made.
  3. Could we modify the thread title or subtitle to something with "Discussion Thread" or "Discuss Here" or something similar? It would really help to keep the two threads distinct when looking at the list of threads. Thanks.
  4. Hi from the Left Coast (Victoria, BC)! There are two LEGO stores now in your neck of the woods but if it is older stuff you want you need to go to BrickLink, Value Village and Salvation Army. A note on Bricklink - I recommend only dealing with US sellers as the shipping charges on BL are the killer and I can get something from Florida (opposite end of the continent) cheaper and sometimes faster than from Alberta (next door province). I would not bother with garage sales unless you or someone you know goes regularly. Around here professional "early-birds" generally scoop up all LEGO and other collectible toys. Here in Victoria we have a website called UsedVictoria.com which is useful and I believe has counterparts elsewhere. Good luck! Ted, VicLUG.ca p.s. Around the LEGO community your non-LEGO years are called your "dark ages". :)
  5. Wow that was hard to find. I had to eventually use Google since the EB search function never got me close. For those who might want to read Jamie's "list" it is available as a .pdf file of a presentation he made (from this thread.)
  6. This is wonderful to watch. Thanks for sharing. I am concerned about moving such a large MOC. Most large-scale builders use some sort of modular design that allows the larger MOC to be "broken" into smaller segments for moving that are easily reassembled onsite for a display. Either that or they get their friends to help shift them onto large plywood boards for carrying. How do you move these?
  7. Love the series, love the idea. I think the sets are pretty good ideas except the Officers Quarters and maybe the impulse set. Not for any reasons of censorship but because it is not the kind of set LEGO would do. LEGO wants vehicles in every set. Even the small sets they try to have something that "moves". In this case you need a Cyclon Raider set so they can have battles and the impulse set should have a new moulded Cylon figure riding an [insert odd flying motorcycle or something here]. :)
  8. I have to compliment you on the successful integration of road plates with the MHS buildings. The sidewalks with trees are very nice and I really love the parking spaces in front of City Hall and in the odd-shaped space by the train station. This will be what I point people towards when they start trying to tell me that the only option is brick-built roads. If I had one tiny suggestion it would be to add ballast to the railway tracks. Every other detail is so wonderful that the bare track sitting on top of the baseplates don't quite do it justice.
  9. Before you post I suggest you read and understand what is being written. You quoted me and then wrote the above with no comprehension of what was written. I was speaking about the direct rip-offs of LEGO sets in violation of copyright laws and the copying of box art to fool consumers into believing they were buying LEGO products which is also illegal in most jurisdictions. That has nothing whatsoever to do with patents and fair competition. Be more careful with your quotes and/or analysis in the future please.
  10. Really enjoyed the review. It makes me really glad I picked one up @ BrickCon last weekend. At the same time your well-illustrated and amusing review relieves the "wanna build it RIGHT NOW" factor since I have promised to not open it until closer to Xmas. Thanks.
  11. This really captures the essence of the house in the photo. I love the colour scheme, simple and elegant. I especially like the front door and the way the stairs continue inside. The back "yard" is delightful, was it based on actually seeing the back or just a guess on your part?
  12. Actually I think people have simply gotten tired of the apologists for this crap and try to ignore these posts. EB admins may have decided that this is no longer exclusively a LEGO fan community but do not take that as majority approval thank you very much. Exactly right. It is not against the law to make (poor-quality) bricks but it is against the law to copy LEGO set design and box art. Anyone who buys these sets is IMO participating in or at least condoning a criminal act and directly hurting the bottom line of TLG.
  13. And I get really frustrated at people who reply before reading the whole thread. I already posted a polite and informative reply which appeared directly above yours several weeks ago that corrected the earlier mistake. There was no need for another post.
  14. I don't know why they are not available through resellers. I just bought two from Will @ BrickCon this past weekend in Seattle. He had a small bin full of them. Perhaps there has not been demand from resellers to stock them?
  15. Very nicely done. You have captured the iconic look of the island in a great scale.
  16. When I clicked on the link I was taken to a different page, specifically: INDEX: Historic and Replica Ships by Perfectionist.
  17. Fantastic details although I'm not a fan of tiled sidewalks. The Jamaican(?) flag in the back window is a great touch.
  18. I built a minifig stand for a local LUG event. Its not specifically for CMS but it is another alternative. There are some disadvantages but it does allow for most of the figs to be seen clearly even if you cannot pack as many into the same footprint.
  19. I went very public today as part of Speak out with you Geek Out and wrote about my LEGO-love on Facebook.
  20. I would suggest tableware, kitchen accessories and general everyday tools. For example I would like to see a plate, bowl, knife, fork and spoon all properly sized for minifigs and clearly I would want to buy several place settings. There are also lots of pots and pans and kitchen utensils that could be produced. As well, cups and mugs are a good bet especially if you made varieties of beer mugs so we could create pubs and feasts. The final category would be small hand tools such as a proper hammer. What about a small plane, file, or even a clamp that could fit onto a tile/plate. These are the kind of accessories that I think would appeal to a wide audience and perhaps even a slightly different audience than the weapons. Girls for instance may buy some BrickArms but I have never seen many (if any) at the BA booth at BrickCon. I would however imagine a number of girls would love to equip their figs with tools and everyday utensils.
  21. Really nice job on the Vickers machine gun and I like the use of the "log" elements snot-wise to line the trench.
  22. Registered and coordinating Port Brick for the Pirate-theme section!
  23. OK, just a little FYI. The Governor General's Foot Guards and the Canadian Grenadier Guards who perform the Changing of the Gard Ceremony on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada are just our version of the British Guards Regiments: Grenadier Guards: Coldstream Guards: Scots Guards: Irish Guards: Welsh Guards: Edit: Apparently the Van Doos (Royal 22e Regiment) also wear the bearskins in full dress.
  24. In that case you should go by the new movie coming this fall and add steampunk airships. Looks like a lot of fun.
  25. So long as you do not put any trademarks like "LEGO" on the elements you create there should be no legal issue. There is a service called Shapeways that is used by one or two EB members to create custom parts.
