Edit should have been: We are only... Just doing my bit to help our cousins in the old country.

Why do you collect the Collectible Minifigures?
tedbeard replied to thegurumb's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That is exactly my take. I am not really a "collector" but I enjoy being able to get individual figs with great accessories. -
You can start at the World LUG Map on LUGnet. Some advice on starting a LUG.

The ship is definitely the best part of this set for me as well.

Loving the show and this really is evocative of the isolation of the Night's Watch. I wish their was a good way to do fur collars. All the Stark's really need fur collars.

Thanks for the great review. Your pictures provide a really comprehensive look at the parts and how the set goes together. This is really helpful when I start to plan my upcoming purchases.

Yep, this is probably the new element(s) I am most excited about this year. I have been wanting a proper minifig-scale bucket for years. Using this: has been unsatisfactory.

You get a cup and start filling from the bins. You stuff it full and put a lid on - I find they are usually willing to help you tape it shut but it must close. You may want to actually put bigger pieces together to maximize space usage but I usually get smaller parts so it matters less. If they have the "bush" elements or small pine trees one or more can often be stuffed into the "stud" in the lid. Gentle tapping can help smaller parts settle to make more room but shaking doesn't really help.

Wow, just wow. I really like the below decks area and the simple stowed sails. Nice details.

REVIEW: Creator 5770 Lighthouse Island
tedbeard replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Clearly this is insanely important to you. I was just offering a minor correction to improve the accuracy and usefulness of an otherwise fantastic review. You are entitled to your "opinion" but when people start searching bricklink for "baseplate" and cannot find the element you are describing they can thank you for changing the meaning of words. If, in my opinion, there is no "dark tan" colour I should be permitted to call it "toffee" or whatever I wish in a review or article or discussion on a LEGO-related forum? I suppose so, but it would still be inaccurate and misleading for people. A plate used as a base is not necessarily a baseplate. I'm sorry if such simple grammar is too advanced. -
This is fantastic and will really add to any layout. I especially love the refrigerator in the kitchen and that you managed to include a toilet in such a small space. The best part for me may be the garage. It looks like a real garage with the odd collection of junk so many of us are familiar with in garages and basements.

REVIEW: Creator 5770 Lighthouse Island

Yes, accuracy is a very big issue to me. Nomenclature for LEGO elements is already tricky enough without perpetuating errors that serve only to confuse people. -
REVIEW: Creator 5770 Lighthouse Island

Can we correct this error right away please. There are no baseplates in this set. There are several plates including the large blue ones used as the base of the model. A baseplate is flexible, thinner than a plate and studs will not connect on the bottom. -
Now that a hi-resolution picture of the next series of Collectible Minifigs is out is anyone else stoked about a "Canadian" being included? Sure it's a bit too stereotypical, Bob-and-Doug but who can resist the new trucker hat with a beaver on it? And the new axe is pretty sweet as well.

This also-newbie has a suggestion: make ballasted track (check out this Railbricks page). If you build up the ground under the train you will be able to fix the flex-track (and other track) more firmly in place and add nice detail. Train around my neck of the woods are almost always on a bit of an embankment or at least a bit of a rise from the surrounding ground.

Sounds like a great starting set-up! Welcome to EB, I have cousins in Vernon and good memories of summer at the lake and Christmas in the snow. Ted in Victoria.
-
I am generally very "purist" but I recently took the lead from a friend who does trains in a big way and cut one of my straight road plates in half. Having that perfect 16-long road plate suddenly makes doing layouts a lot more interesting.

Sounds like you guys should find a Denny's/IHOP/whatever and meet up for breakfast before heading to the store. Could be the start/reboot of a LUG for the area.
-
Maybe. I'd say $200 for all that would be OK but to sell fast you have to offer a great deal which may not be the amount you need. Of course, my wife has cut off my LEGO spending for the next few months after a flurry of second-hand store buys so I'm not buying in general right now. Which is too bad because otherwise I'd be making an offer. Oh, you might want to take another picture for the transport centre. That is the set that would make me want the bundle but I had to look twice to see that's what it was. Oh, and take the five seconds to turn each picture right way up. Small thing but it can make buyers more interested if they can easily see the items. Wow, didn't mean to turn this into to a critique/how-to for selling used lots. Good luck!

Any idea if ME Models track options will include a narrow-gauge curve that could be used instead of the IJ curves? It would mean being able to have matching track and to power the rails.

Just in case anyone was unaware, modulex is now available through Bricklink.

CM Series 4 now @ WallyWorld in Victoria (Uptown location). Well, there was yesterday but some of my LUGmates have been buying whole boxes - which they promise they will be sharing around. I had to make Gilligan with the sailor hat: EDIT: just confirmed Uptown WallyWorld is sold out. Langford may have some otherwise I'd be checking London Drugs. They had them almost as fast last round.

I've got 40-50 in my Legio XXIII if you want to work together? I had a small detachment marching into Tom's forest at BrickCon last year in the castle section: Picture on flickr In any case I look forward to seeing what you build. I am going to get a supply of the new column pieces to do a temple or something.

Actually I found Canadian Bacon to be hilarious and I love Canadian jokes. My favorite is the OPP officer played by Dan Ackroyd doing a riff on the Monty Python Life of Brian scene but on the side of a truck instead of the forum. How I Met Your Mother is currently the best source of ridiculous Canadian jokes "Oh, noo, I'm afraid of the dark, eh?" The best part is that most of the these kind of jokes are written by Canadians or people who like us and, as noted above, are often subtle digs at our American cousins and their attitudes about Canadians and our differences. BTW, please be more careful using the word "racist". Canadian is not a race it is a nationality In the same way Muslim is not a race it is a religion it is important to use the correct term.

Good question. I wondered something similar my first con (BrickCon 2006). The non-public days are time for panel discussions, shopping, silly competitions like build-in-a-bag, blind builds, speed builds, or some crazy challenge like Wacky Racers or Dwarf-tossing machines. There are often Dirty Brickster and draft sessions at some point and hopefully some sort of keynote from a LEGO employee or other "celebrity". Oh, and lets not forget the hours of building to get the displays ready. I know some cons are more about individual builds but at BrickCon it is all about the cooperative displays. I have participated in the Castle display every year and we are always building landscaping and populating the display with battling armies, farmers, animals, ents, dragons whatever right up to the moment the public walks in. Since this is a new Con it may or may not have the bigger cooperative displays but there is usually lots to do especially if your MOC gets damaged in transit or you didn't quite get it finished before leaving.
