  1. This is looking fantastic. I was lucky enough to see Calypso in Halifax Harbour when I was a kid and your build looks really accurate.
  2. Although the colour scheme hurts my eyes a little bit I do love the cross over the entrance. The inset effect is quite nice.
  3. Gorgeous! Does the roof come off?
  4. For "shaving" the heads I have found that a sharp exacto-knife works really well. You hold the knife perpendicular to the surface and scrape the "hair" off like you are doing an old-fashioned straight razor shave in a barber shop. I have only tried it on the yellow heads and it may be the shape or the colour or both, but it seems to be fairly forgiving and produces a good result. The first one I tried is in the sig-fig below: Notice that this was my first attempt and I did make a mistake. There is a spot where I took too much out from the left-side. I decided that it gave the result a unique look so I used it anyway.
  5. I might be concerned if I saw a lot of LEGO being left on the clearance/remainder shelves for months or if a lot was showing up in the TJ Maxx/Winners type stores. These things would indicate an over-supply. As it is however they are constantly selling out so clearly they have done a great job of matching supply to demand.
  6. Don't forget about City! Harbour, Forest Police, Fire and the upcoming Mining "waves" are distinct sub-themes but they all come under the City theme which is a strong evergreen line.
  7. I love the use of the dark grey containers. It took me a minute to realize they allowed light into the floor below. Really interesting effect.
  8. What a great idea and so well executed. The details of the production line are brilliant and, to echo above, the line really gives the effect of movement. The building itself is also very nicely done. I especially like the arched windows.
  9. Fantastic as usual. Everyone wants to make cool round towers now. Can I ask why you use three 1x1 round plates instead of a single 1x1 round brick? Is it for aesthetic reasons (which I cannot really appreciate in the picture) or perhaps you just have tons of them from doing your other buildings. :)
  10. This is really well done. I love the ECW and 30 Years War time period and this would make for some great battles like Breda or other sieges.
  11. It is not just crazy shipping fees you need to worry about. Carefully check the exchange rates used. I have encountered several sellers in Europe who make up their own exchange rates that are obscene. With as much patriotic love for my fellow Canucks as I can muster, I NEVER buy from Canadians or Europeans if I can avoid it. I buy from Americans as much as possible. Why? Because I can get the same item from Florida (furthest point in the Continental US from me here on Vancouver Island) in half the time for half the shipping cost than I can from Alberta (next province over). Even Canada Post from Vancouver to Victoria costs the same and takes longer. Its usually not the sellers fault but rather Canada Post but its still a nuisance. And there is little choice sometimes with the Europeans. Those lucky B@$!%&s get better access to a lot of stuff and since most of them I have actually dealt with are pretty good you should be OK.
  12. Would it have killed you to link to a thread or an article somewhere that answered his question? How stupid of anyone to think that a forum labeled "LEGO Train Tech" might actually be a place to find the answers to questions related to running LEGO trains! We should know that "LEGO Train Tech" is a social forum where "getting to know people" is the most important thing. If I received such a rude reply to a polite query I'd probably never come back.
  13. Hi! Welcome aboard from the Left Coast.
  14. Chapters here in Victoria has a Toy section beside the kids books and the CMFs are on a counter with other toys. Good news: not behind a desk/counter; bad news: no where to sit. Overall I feel less creepy standing in the aisle at London Drugs and the last two series they have put out multiple cases at the same time at the downtown location!
  15. Welcome from the Best Coast where we got like 2cm of snow in the last 24hrs and they started closing schools!
  16. I spoke to a local toy store owner and his understanding was that TLC will sell to independent toy stores but will not do so if they are parting out new sets purchased at wholesale prices. Buying and selling used LEGO was not a problem.
  17. The city looks fantastic. I especially like the overhead street sign.
  18. What is crazy about this is that the solution was obviously one of two options and yet S@H failed to use either one. 1) Set aside the promo set - the package should have prepped for shipping including the promotional set and set aside the package until the address issue was resolved. There is a 0% chance that PO Box address difficulties have never before occurred and cancelling the order is just a way to piss off your customers. 2) Make restitution - once the promo sets were physically gone the customer should have been sent a gift card or online credit for $10 off their next purchase on S@H. No, it would not replace the promo set but it would make a concrete effort at some form of restitution and it would build trust with the customer AND it would encourage a subsequent purchase to use the credit. Neither of these options should cost the company significant money. Failure to take either option could quite easily cost them since S@H provides a higher return than traditional distribution to the company. Basic customer service fail.
  19. Hello from the Wet Coast!
  20. I think you meant: Lucky Guy!
  21. Locked, after someone posts a direct link to the other thread please.
  22. Looks good, and thanks for the close-up, multi-angled views of the Romans. On a side note, I am not impressed by the helmet. It looks to me like the cheek plates come out way too far.
  23. Best, and by that I mean funniest as well as very thorough, review I have read all year.
  24. Love to see this as a set. Supported and shared.
  25. Thanks, the medium blue bricks really photograph well as sky.
