Thanks. Done. It didn't even look right next to the other small architecture series buildings. -
LEGO Architecture 2015 News & Discussion

I've been working on some modular building MOCs. I just got around to building the Lincoln Memorial. Really? Seriously? I knew it was small, but it's almost the size that you could put it on a key chain. -
I couldn't agree more. Perfection.
-
I agree completely. And the exceedingly high playability factor has kept me entertained for hours and hours.

What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
Off the wall replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My special annoyance is the posting of 16 stud wide modular MOCs that are three stories, white 1 x 1 windows, flat fronts, and no texture. They're even selling plans for these things on eBay. -
Everything works. Color, size, design. You managed to get a very interesting look with plenty of texture and detail while using a modest variety of parts and colors. One of the best MOCs that I've seen. The detail on the roof is exceptional. The poor little 'grand' emporium is not looking so 'grand' compared to your MOC. :-)

What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?

The natural history museum reached the 10,000 level and is currently under review. Some are of the opinion that since it's over 2,000 pieces, it's chances are about nil of ever being produced. If Lego does have a limit on piece count for Ideas sets, then it's largely a waste of time to include them in the Lego Ideas process. And, by waste of time, I mean my time. I also hate getting my hopes up (natural history museum) if it doesn't have a chance from the get go. The upside to allowing everything into the mix is that at least we get to see a lot of great designs even if they don't stand a chance of ever being produced by TLG due to restrictions that may not be public knowledge. -
PastVPresent Thanks for the info. If that's the look you were aiming for, you nailed it! Again, nice work. The added door, the street number and the fire escape. Yep, that's it! All it needs is a bodega down the street.
-
While I can appreciate your respect for the original design and think you created an outstanding MOD of the original, aesthetically the fire escape takes away from the looks of both the original and the MOC. I wonder if the buildings in NYC were designed with the fire escape on the front or if changes in the alley way behind the buildings required them to be relocated or if a new code came along after the buildings were originally constructed and when later updates were made to the building the owners were forced into a code upgrade.
-
Agree...fires escapes are fine. As long as they are on the back or side of a building.
-
PastVPresent. Without the fire escape, it's the best DO mod that I've seen. I think the fire escape detracts from the design. Gilding the lily.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I had an extra assembled PC with nowhere to place it. So, I took some of the bricks from it to use in the Detective agency, Starbucks, barbershop that I'm building. Some of the interior details were useful. I left the second floor of the PC alone and moved it over to my original PC so that it's now one story taller. I also took the extra red facade and made it go all the way around the edge of the roof. I guess what I noticed the most is that the extra floor on the PC is really stretching things as far as proportion is concerning. I may try to rebuild the entire PC so that it's not a corner building. Keep it the original height but let it stretch out to 64 wide. -

I'm seeing GE on Amazon for as low as $236.99 (new) and TH for $465. Not bad on GE for a retired set. TH, well, that's kind of high in my humble opinion. But, it won't be a year from now if things play out as they have in the past. -
What kind of budget do you set?

Update, Well, without a new train, another modular, a large set like Taj Mahal or Tower Bridge, or a large vehicle (like the VWs), TLG has probably made a 2015 budget unnecessary. I can see my spending really dropping off this year. -
Really nice build that fits in great with the official Lego modulars. Also, so many modular MOCs suffer from what I call 'flat face'. Your has detail and texture that make it interesting.

Unnoticed lego ideas sets.

And, if you're going to violate the guidelines, at least do it in a competent and coherent manner. :-) -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I think TH, at least in North America, is a goner. Hasn't been at Lego.com for a long time and ditto for the brick and mortar stores. Any left at a store would have either been sold at the store by now or worked their way back through the distribution system last fall. I feel sorry for anyone just starting with the modulars. It now takes a lot of $$ or €€ to play catch up. I started this addictive hobby in February 2013 and only had to deal with three retired sets. In addition, GE and TH were great parts sets if you wanted to get started with MOCs. PS keeps hanging on. I hope that one is to modulars the way the Death Star is to the SW series. It sticks around a long time. It's such a good, flexible design and a great introduction to the hobby. -
Thanks. I had to edit it or it would have started a flame war with those who take these things far too seriously.

I don't know of very many people who underestimated the Seahawks. They were favorites and didn't cover the points spread.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I really, really hope we get the natural history museum from Lego ideas. If they would maintain the integrity of the design, then it would cost a whole lot of $$$$. But, you could have a great building with only one set and no modifications. I know, I know. It's a fairly tale. But, I can dream. -

I've been collecting Lego for a couple of years. Being retired, I don't budget like I did when I was young. During the first year or so, I was playing catch up and spending a lot on retired sets. Now that I'm all 'caught up', I can probably get by with spending $160 a month because there's just not that much new stuff that I want. In the first year and a half, I bought five modular sets (some duplicate) that were retired, SW Death Star and superstar destroyer, the retired VW, all of the winter village stuff and all of the architecture series including two of the marina bay sands. Plus the retired Eiffel Tower and retired Taj Mahal. It got expensive. -
PM me with where to send one and I'll mail one to you. I have at least one extra. Free.

Okay, Rog. It's 'awesome'. Feel better, now?

Sort of like a contest in NJ. First place was two tickets to a Jets game and second place was four tickets.
