It could be done with all themes, but not here. If you have all themes mixed then its harder to compare and the winner will be based on which theme has the largest fan base no doubt. This here's a pirate forum so we're doing it with the Pirate theme. Besides , the prize will be pirate related. If you wish to use the idea, it's copyrighted as a Landlubber Productions Concept , so all you need to do is send me $100 and you can use the idea in another forum. ;-) You dont have to use them but the idea is to recreate the official alternate model as accurately as possible, so having no minifigs might hurt your chances. Just borrow them from the "something else" , even if it's just to take the photo. Just remember the rule. Nope. They usually come with instructions from what I remember. The rule is that you have to use only the parts that came in that particular set, and the challenging part is that there won't be any instructions available anywhere.

Avast Mateys. I figured it time we stopped all this gobsmacking and put our moneys where our mouths is. Here be the challenge. 1- Pick your favourite Pirate set, making sure you have access to the original box or instructions and your own copy of the set. 2- Pull the set to pieces and build one of the Lego photographed ALTERNATE models using the back of the box or instructions as a guide. 3- Post a photograph of your alternate model along with a photograph or scan of the official lego picture in this thread. Don't forget to mention what the original set was, or even better a small picture of it. The only rule is that you must use only the pieces in the original set. In 3 weeks from today (16th July) I will post a new thread for the purpose of voting the best and most accurate alternate model. I'll try to come up with some small prize between now and then for the winner. Build on me hearties!!!!!!

Lego Mania Magazine Resources
Landlubber replied to SirScottLego's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Just buy the listing and he sends the magazine with it. -
Do you just want 1 of each? And how much are you looking to pay? Thats a pretty basic list, and I have all those bits 10 times over. Only thing is it may not be worth a funds transfer from CZ to Australia, however that would work.

Buying Pirate LEGO - where to buy, advice, tips and questions
Landlubber replied to Mr. Smee's topic in LEGO Pirates
This may sound harsh so don't take it the wrong way. If you aren't interested in trying to build your own, why are you interested in lego? The whole idea of lego is being able to say "I built that". I see several problems with your idea of trying to purchase those 2 ships. 1. Price- there are hours of work in those things, not to mention the actual parts. The Sirius has 46 cannons. Thats probably $250 worth alone. Then factor in postage. 2. The builders may not like the idea of giving up their models for someone else to take credit for. If you do a movie using them everyone will say "great movie, I like your MOcs etc etc" 3. A lot of builders recycle their ships for new projects. They may no longer exist. 4. Making instructions would take ages for the builder, then you would have to source all the parts, which could take a while as well. You seem as though you'd rather something a little quicker. Models like these can be in the building stage for months, even years. You may need to find a "lego artist" to construct one for you. Might cost you though.- 502 replies

Would you like electric lighting in your Town sets?
Landlubber replied to JINZONINGEN73's topic in LEGO Town
Sounds good to me. Actually, we have 50 12v lego lights sitting in a bag ready to be incorporated into the town once decent space is obtained to accomodate the ever expanding collection. I've also got a 9v system in a Pirate ship with working lanterns. -
Nothing escapes the trained lego eye. A quick sort through can reveal enough odd and rare pieces to determine what sets were in there. I cheated a bit with my 20 kilo lot because there were 3 folders of instructions, but a lot of the time a couple of minutes in the bricklink parts listing can determine what sets you should be able to build from someones discarded collection.

RE: Comments for 1 Yahoo Auction I won.
Landlubber replied to vhtf.hw.lego's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
There are so many dodgey points in that auction that it's not funny. 1. Quantity is listed as 1. 2. The wording is not suitable for an auction. It reads like a classifieds ad which makes no sense on an auction page. He states that there is a no reserve price for quick deal and also offers a buy it now. 3. Mint original ninja? Here's the original ninja torso. Tell him if he doesn't send you all 4 ninja's for the price you bid that you will be forced to report him to Yahoo Auctions for unclear listings and misrepresentation. -
AAAAARrrrr , didn't ye know tis forbidden to be speaking of the Harry Potters round yonder? He's just not human I tells ya. I once seen him flyin' bout like a pansy through the air on a broomstick by god. Saw it with me own eye, I did. Tisn't natural that. You'se best be thinking 'fore opening your mouth round here m'lad. On a more thread related note I've spent heaps on Lego in the last couple months. BSB, RBR , EF, Skull island , armada sentry, all with boxes and instructions. 7 kilo's random stuff. Had some complete town sets and a few pirate spares. 20 odd kilo collection. Has a pirates ambush and lots of ninja sets as well as heaps of town. Still sorting through it before I start building. Another 7 kilo lot. Had some old 12v train and a few complete town sets.

Does this mean no more entries allowed?
-
No typo, and 100% complete. Had it in my watchlist and forgot to bid. Apparently so did everyone else so the guy relisted it. I was the only 1 to bid the next time around and got it for 99 pence. Even had the instructions with it.

Sell them. If you're working 7 days a week you won't have time to build things anyway. I've got a mate with a Garage and a couple rooms full of lego. He rarely builds anything though. Seems like a waste. Personally, I don't work that hard so I've got plenty of spare time. As soon as I've finished building my new house (with designated custom built lego area) I'll set everything up properly. For now all the sets are built and randomly scattered throughout the house.

If you were in Australia I'd probably just keep buying till you had your 5grand. What town sets are there? My Girlfriend loves classic town. I'm into the castle and pirate stuff if you have anything I might like. Shipping may be costly though if I get too carried away.

Looks good, but would look better if you turned the wheels around. Monster trucks need big deep dish wheels.
-
Nah, you don't need to put them in baggies. They come out pretty easily by themselves. The white ones never look the same though. Brown ones are easiest to smuggle.

What is the output from a real Lego 9V powerpack?
Landlubber replied to JINZONINGEN73's topic in LEGO Town
NTSC is a video transmission standard, nothing to do with electricity. Not sure about the actual ouput, Probably 9V considering its the Lego 9V system. -
I dont think Island boy is that much of a hardcore lego fan. Maybe he has no money. As for me, I paid $2.35 for my enchanted island. The other one someone gave me for my birthday.

Good, you figured out how to focus the camera. :-P As for the set, the quality of the bricks looks pretty good now that the photo is a bit clearer. Everything looks pretty solid, with nice sharp corners like lego has, and good solid colours. I do see a bit of copying there. Two guys up on the rigging have a torso similar to the tusken raiders and there is a torso down near the middle mast that looks a lot like the armour plate from the castle range. EDIT- Just realised they probably are lego that you have added. Not bad though, and I reckon those railings would come in handy, not to mention cannons in bulk.

PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6285 Black Seas Barracuda
Landlubber replied to Capn Frank's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'm pretty sure I did around the time I joined up here. Unless I just added it in the tread about all my ships. Can't really remember. -
PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6285 Black Seas Barracuda
Landlubber replied to Capn Frank's topic in LEGO Pirates
Nope, your thinking way too hard into it. That ship is 100% lego. You know the 4 gray hatches that open up on the deck of the BSB? And how there is a bit of empty space under there. Mine has a 9V light and sound box placed under the hatch so that the switch is easy to get at. there is then a 9V cable running up through the cabin to the back of the upper deck with a 9V light assembly stuck on top with 2 yellow round cylinders over the lights. I'd get some more closeup pictures but the ship is in storage out at the farm right now. (there isn't enough room in this house to store it all.) -
I don't have any of these sets so I'm hardly an expert, but couldn't you use the touch sensor placed further up the track in a way that the train sets it off as it goes past thereby lowering the boomgates. You then have the second sensor (that set comes with 2 doesn't it?) on the track over the other side of the barriers so that when the train passes it the barriers raise again. As before , I've never used the little computer thing so I dont know what it can be programmed to do, but if it could do that it would be pretty bloody cool.
-
That's cool. I love it. Know where it would look good? Right here or joined onto the eventual island that I'm going to make this part of. Considering this is a pirate forum, would you be offended if I were to pirate some of your ideas for my eventual layout? I especially like the twin archways idea.

PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6285 Black Seas Barracuda
Landlubber replied to Capn Frank's topic in LEGO Pirates
I had to give it a 5 as well...... you all know why. Another reason is cause that's how many I have (I think) , including this modified 3 master with working lanterns behind the ships wheel, and a MISASWB (mint in sealed and shrink wrapped box) of the original 6285. -
They look really good. I especially like the Acchian officers. They look like an arrogant vain bunch of scoundrels. Which are the "goodies" and which are the "baddies"?
