  1. Yep. Considering cannons are fetching around 3 or 4 bucks each (sometimes up to 6!!!!) it wouldn't worry me one bit. They'de still be ok for lower decks of ships, where only the barrell can be seen anyway. I'd also be tempted to get large amounts of grey or green blocks for landscapes. Even if it has to be glued together, as long as a regular lego building will snap on top of it then it would probably be worth it for a mega moc.
  2. It would be good to just be able to buy parts out of these imitation sets. If I could get 100 cannons for 10cents apeice or a heap of blue baseplates for 50cents each i'd jump on it.
  3. It was the big one, Enchanted Island isn't it? Postage cost me 3 times what the actual set did. Came with instructions and box as well. Islander sets don't seem to get many bids in the UK, and there seem to be heaps of the Enchanted Island come up.
  4. This is probably the other one you are thinking of. Cant say I've ever seen the one up the top before though. Doesn't look too bad.
  5. I haven't got any for sale but I picked up the big island from ebay UK a couple months ago for less than $5. Bargain!!!
  6. If you read the description you will notice that the seller says that this set was given only to lifetime members of legoland and only if they attended this certain conference, hence the small number available and probably why no-ones ever heard of this set. and as for the hinges, there are the flat hinges with 2 fingers on the chest setion, joined to 2x1 hinges with 3 fingers on the lid. The handles on the side are simply joined onto headlight bricks and every other part seems pretty normal. No really special ones in there, should be a peice of cake to build.
  7. What's tacky glue? I cant see any glue other than a 2 part epoxy being able to hold it together without cracking again.
  8. Why dont you turn the base upside down and fill it with plaster of paris? It'll make it heavy but it'll give it structural support and you can still build on it. Other options could be to fibreglass the inside, or try using an epoxy resin type glue instead, and really coat the cracks from the inside.
  9. Is that a bit of envy there Phes? His collection isn't THAT big. I only count maybe 8 ships. I've got nearly twice that scattered around my longeroom. Wouldn't mind having them all set out like that though. Pity blue baseplates are hard to find and bloody expensive.
  10. Niiiice. Cant wait to see a finished product. I'm keen to do something similar. I've just bought a farm and as soon as my lego shed is constructed I can get started. Keep up the good work Bo.
  11. And here are some interior updates The great hall Entertaining some visiting british officers. The hall is decorated with artefacts from the soldiers clashes with the enemy. A soldier takes a nap on the bunks in the barracks.
  12. No need for a slope or hinge for the roof tile Phes. Reason being that you only found half of the piece. Here's one in full (I have 8 of these in green, I'm guessing a Spanish base is next on the board) And here's how the red ones look on the govenors roof. I even had one with a small hole in it designed to take a flagpole.
  13. I dont see why not. I should have half a dozen of those lying around somewhere. Have to try that. If not I know my next door neighbour has a heap of red roof tiles, including the funny angles and ridge caps.
  14. ImperialScout gets the medal for the mast. The black grill opens up and the mast has a crane on it for lifting supplies from rowboats in the river below. I just ran out of string. Phes' sharp eyes have uncovered the secret of the baseplates. The 2 at the front were originally all blue from the Neptune Discovery Lab. My bricklink guy gave them to me cause they had a few cracks and some corners missing so he couldn't sell them. Grey spraypaint followed by some green and then a bit of yellow on a paintbrush.....voila , instant island plates. I've got about 50 palm trees on the way. Unfortunately large masses of vegetation are hard to find and rather expensive but it'll get there. Yep, there is a jail behind those black bars. The cell door is on the other side of that tower, I'll try to get some more photo's tonight. Phes, the govenor is standing on the balcony in the 3rd pic. He just has a plain black hat though instead of the fancy black and white one. Red roof is a good idea, I just had a thought about where I can pinch a heap of red roof tiles from. Keep the ideas coming. They're good inspiration starters.
  15. EDIT- UPDATED PICS PAGE 2 - OCT 7 And here was the end result. Luckily there is a fair sized Bricklink store owner less than 10 minutes away cause I ran out of a few things and needed to restock. Heres the whole thing. The only thing it really has in common with an Eldorado Fortress is the colour scheme, but its a good colour scheme and doesn't look as drab as a grey fortress Same thing, different angle. Closeup of the Govenors quarters. The roofs come off the 2 larger buildings. Need to spend some time building some interior detail though. Bottom building is the soldiers barracks, top I was thinking a gret hall for entertaining or something. Any ideas of what to put in either of these buildings ( with photo links for ideas if you have them) Enjoy.
  16. I do not build, nor do I play. I create. Lego is a clean loungeroom safe version of what I do for work and a lot of my spare time. I spend all day disassembleing and reassembling cars at work and then I have several projects of my own in the garage (as well as building a new garage). Lego is something to do when I'm inside in front of the TV or for when I dont feel like getting dirty.
  17. I like these guys. One thing the pirate series lacks is regular civilians. Cant wait to see some filthy drunken sailors.
  18. There's no "easy" way for searching on ebay. Any of the auctions that come up witha simple search are the ones that get the most interest because everyone can find them easily. This means they usually fetch a high price. SOmetimes the best way is to trawl through and find the set that hasn't been listed with a very good description. I once got a Skull Eye Schooner for $50AUS (20pounds) , nearly complete and with instruction because the seller hadn't used the words "pirate, skull, ship" in his heading and he had it listed under the bulk lots section with the heading "lego boat" or something like that. Another time I got the big Islander set (enchanted island?) for 1.35pounds For your "easy way" to find sets, there is a category called sets/themes and a subcategory called pirates. Its currently showing 125 items.
  19. Sounds good to me. DOn't have too many rules and regulations though. Keep it fun and lets try to get some good MOCs up on this forum. I mean , MORE good MOC's.
  20. I'll trade you your 3 Skulleye Schooners for my 3 Skulleye Schooners. :-P
  21. I thought there were 3 at first. The islanders have their little island where they sacrifice goats and stuff Then the spanish come in, trash the island and leave it in ruins. Looks like the builder added a lot more foliage and made it look a bit more run down. Very clever if you ask me. I liiiike it.
  22. Castle parts are brilliant for pirates. As far as I know there were never any horses in pirates, but they need land transport as well as the ships. Forts work well in grey as well and those yellow and red tudor wall peices from the castle series are good for making small buildings in pirate towns.
  23. That looks pretty impressive. I've always wanted to do a larger version of the Eldorado Fortress, but the lack of blue baseplates for sea is a limiting factor. My 3rd Eldorado fortress should be here within the next month. Might hold off building it in favour of something like this.
  24. No problems Phes. Here's the link to the new thread with the full rebuild. http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...topic=6034&st=0
  25. By the way, heres the original trhread if you havent seen it before. http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=5931
