  1. Just thought I'd chuck in 2 cents worth. If they brought out a civil war theme it would just be more Wild West sets too me. It would be the same as bringing out a theme based on the Eureka Stockade or Ned Kellys last stand. Im guessing there are a lot of puzzled looks at this point, its significant Australian History but probably means nothing to most of you. Same as the Civil War means to most of us. The good thing about the Lego themes is that they are not character specific and all characters are made up from the beginning.
  2. Is cumbersome the word you were after? As in "big, bulky, hard to move".
  3. Yeah, felt is the really thick stuff. I'm not sure if its synthetic or not. I'll be sure to do a test run first before I spend hours cutting out the perfect shape and getting the design right. Either way, the felt comes in different colours so there is a bit of variety , and because its a bit thicker than normal fabric its abit less flimsy and doesn't require starching or glueing and the corners dont fray like they would with more conventional woven fabrics.
  4. Thats some nice printing there, I could have sworn it was done on a computer. I found that a good substitute for a backlight table was an old computer scanner. They have a flat glass surface and a light, and the one I had would leave the light activated for 5 minutes before it switched off. I was thinking of some custom sails myself the other day. Has anyone here ever used felt? My idea was to do up designs on the computer, print them as an iron on transfer, and then iron on the design to felt. ANd if you dont like the original Flagship sails rupi, feel free to send them to me. ; )
  5. Surely that other MOC wouldn't mind if you borrowed its doors? I dunno, my pirates get narky if you start ripping the doors off their jungle stronghold. I'll get some more next time I put in a parts order though. As for the carriage, its all original ( I hope). I was sitting there one night looking at this pile of ships (which had an imperial flagship added to it today - finally) and realised that they were the only transport that any of the pirates or imperials had. I had plenty of wagon wheels and a couple of spare horses so I thought I'd knock up a few wagons. I wanted the carriage to be a bit different, so I did the cabin section 5 wide meaning the governor could fit inside with elbow room but not make it too bulky. It worked out pretty well and there is another seat in there for the govenors mistress etc. The other wagon was just a simple knock up to make it look like someone in the port was actually doing some work.
  6. Thats the bucket, you know for getting the water from the well. ;-)
  7. I figured this was worth a new thread considering I completely tore the old fort apart and started afresh with some new found pieces. I found a whole heap of brown LURPs so I thought I'd fit this fort onto the clifftop. It's also got the cannon on two sides for better firing angle. Here's the inside. Stairs, jail, and a couple of small buildings, thanks to you guys. The blue and yellow roof is the Armoury (inside pic to follow and there is a small storeroom/barracks down the bottom left of the photo. The well still needs a little work. Inside the armoury. Better shot of the barracks/storeroom. Secret entrance in one of the rocks at the front. View of the entrance. I wanted to use doors but my only really big doors are on another MOC. Feel free to make more suggestions . I was thinking of some more small buildings or something inside. Dont want to fill it up too much though so I can fit a wagon or some horses in there. This one might be a bit big to fit in a small fort though.
  8. Major rebuild is underway. More cannon, more detail, and many suggestions taken into consideration.
  9. Why are there so many poor photographers on Brickshelf. I hate coming across a really good model but you cant make out any detail cause the photo is blurry or poorly lit. Todays cameras are pretty idiotproof. Thats a damn nice ship though.
  10. Yeah, I wanted to put arches in but I didn't have any and I was relying on grey wall peices to make up the bulk of the fort as my standard grey bricks were limited as well. Arches tend to be heavily reliant on your 1x1, 1x2 and 1x4 bricks I've found. It looks a bit plain in the photo's cause theres nothing around it I think. Needs some landscaping.
  11. I did have a prison in there. There were 2 cells next to the tower which were the main supports for a walkway which ran the whole way across the middle. I took it out though cause I needed a cell door to build a Rock Island Refuge. I know, it still needs work. I basically kept building till I had a few little useless bits in my container of grey. A few dark grey bits scattered throughout might break up the "grey block" look but I have bugger all of those dark grey bits. Staircase is on my list of things to do, cept I don't like those big stair peices. Each step is too high for a minifig in my opinion so as soon as I get a pile of 2x6 grey plates I'll be whacking some decent stairs in there. As for the block shape of the structure, if I was an Imperial army building a stronghold, fancy design wouldn't be my number one priority. I'd be building it strong before Captain Barbossa came along and blew the crap out my garrison. More cannons would be good but they're hard to come by and the ships tend to deplete my supplies. As for a name, haven't thought about yet. Throw me some suggestions.
  12. As promised, here's the first in my MOC's series. I'm guessing this will sit on the hill overlooking the town ala Pirates of the Carribean Curse of the Pearl (saw the second one the other day, wasn't really that impressed.) Anyways, I built this to use up all my big grey castle wall pieces and because soldiers need somewhere to ..... soldier. Please note. Historical accuracy plays no part whatsoever in any of my creations. I build what looks good to me and what I have the bricks for. POTC is basically my limited knowledge on pirates and what they do.
  13. Yeah, just the one clipper. They tend to go for a fair price. Wish I had a couple more though. Most of the ships I've aquired in the last couple of years. Some I got from my cousins collections ,some from ebay. Most I've paid for a SES was $130 AU. That one had every peice, every minifig and a perfect set of instructions. The other's came with minor peices missing and had usually been put in a strange category on ebay with a half assed description which I guess is why people missed it. Keep an Eye out in the MOC thread. I'll try and post up some pics of my land creations tonight.
  14. Well, Armada Flagship. Wish it was an Imperial Flagship. Haven't got one of those. Postage was the best part. The ship was located 10 minutes from my house so I just hopped on the Motorbike and went and picked it up. I cant believe no-one else bid on it. It's hard to not come across the forum if you search for pirate lego. Mister Phes has pretty much plastered anywhere pirate related. Skaforhire- Yep that is an extended BSB at the back. I've got the week off work and it was a crap day for motorbike riding so I gave it a little bit of a rework. It only had 3 gunports each side so I reworked it to 6 a side and put in a bit of a deck with a deckboat. The ship also has a pair of 9V lanterns behind the wheel, powered by a battery box hidden beneath one of the grey hatches. Here's a couple more pics of it. I'll post up some more pics of my Mocs in the future (both sea and land). Hope to see some more of yours as well.
  15. Hello all. Nice little community you have here. Just thought my first post should be a general hello. I recently pulled out my childhood lego collection and rediscovered how much pirate gear I had. Of course, I started buying more as I found it in various places . Collection currently consists of 3 Skull EYe Schooners, A couple of BSB's, A Carribean Clipper, red beard runner , pair of Santa Cruzes (although 1 is MISB, $40AU off ebay last week) ,3 Eldorado Fortresses, An Imperial Trading Post, couple of Forbidden Islands and a whole pile of smaller sets and MOCs. It's good to find somewhere that gathers all the pirate info into one place, so I'll be seeing you all around from time to time. Heres a quick snapshot of the Fleet, minus MISB Santa Cruz and Red Beard Runner which is dissassembled for inventory to find out what parts I'm missing from it.
