Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Discussion Thread
Mandate replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I'm barely coming up with any concepts. I scrapped an entire design because the villain wouldn't qualify (NO, I will not elaborate on this), and I'm struggling for concepts to work with for pieces. It doesn't help that listening to the NINJAGO soundtrack is really pulling my heart back to it... -
]You forgot the '08 sets, which the cracking joints originated with.

Here's a tip: Use Kongu's Inika mask.

Boy, the Earth guys will make great security guards "Mwahahahah! Pohatu is gone, so we can attack in safet-" *Earth Protector soars upward, and lands on top of LOSS's head, points his staff at LOSS's eyes and starts grinding* "GRRAAAAAAAHAAARGH"

Already been stated. Only if the parts you use are real parts, and that you would be able to find them in a store. So no Mata Green Shells. -
I think I'm eligible as well for the Hau tag

Probably going to lose this (as I always do), but I'll give it a shot. -
I doubt we will see similar heights again. Canister Villains contributed a fair bit to BIONICLE's downfall; less focus on cool and innovative designs and more of a focus on heroes and villains fighting one another. It's one area I think LOSS has failed in, an attempt to recreate what made the Rahi special but ultimately failing because it missed the very point of the Rahi for the most part. It's with LOSS that I've come to realize exactly why we don't see Technic and CCBS used together; it's because they're fundamentally incompatible. CCBS is about bones and shells, Technic about beams, pins and gears, CCBS is about simplicity and standardization while in the meantime Technic is about complexity and innovation with what you've already got. They're completely different aesthetically too. The IRL pics we've gotten of LOSS, and the posters that show the underside, indicate that my hopes were in vain for LOSS. It's not a walking function like Pewku, it's not a special design I was hoping for. It's a grab function. Arguably understandable and in-line with the Skull Spiders being head huggers/Headcrabs, but for me LOSS doesn't cut it as a replacement for the Rahi. I never bought any of the original BIONICLE sets, save Tahu Nuva and some other all of which I only bought in these last few weeks, but just from the reviews I can see that the Rahi were so much more than LOSS is and will be. Real shame too. Would have loved to have seen a special, unexpected design with him.

Yet removing the gears doesn't really change articulation much anyway. (not singling you out here Caboose) Comments like these are why I don't want to start uploading videos to my Youtube channel. Make one blunder and everyone will laugh at you for eternity, and I have emotional issues and self-hatred enough as it is. MOVING ON... I don't get why everyone is complaining about Okoto. I hated it myself until I saw the concepts for it, but while natural transitions is a problem (not entirely true, the ice and water areas aren't completely separated...) I don't get the hate for it. It looks ridiculously colorful in the cartoon, I'll give them that.

Anyone recommend purchasing the NYCC Posters? I know they're small, but are they worth it?

Replace "products" with "semi-humans" (which is more or less the case with Hero Factory, they're human in every way except for the whole robot thing) and that's what happens. They're alive, and they're not mindless drones.

I just noticed LEGO had gotten into the habit of "CGI-ing" the sets. That might sound late, but I'm not talking about the fact they're rendered in CGI. Take a look at Gali's right hand and her weapon connection. Here's the thing: It's off center. Lewa and PoE have the same issues, Lewa on the right hand and PoE on the left. It's not a gigantic issue (nor is it from the sides of the boxes) but it's an alarming one for me. I'm going to be very annoyed if this becomes common place.

Anyone have an idea as to how the PoE's staff... blaster... thing works? I can't figure out how to fire it short of turning the cannon itself... edit: wait, no. Figured it out. The rotating staff is actually connected down the center, it's an optical illusion (intentional or not) that gives the impression the staff's rod is in both hands

Contrary to popular belief, Tahu uses Friction Joints on his feet as well. But I can't exactly give a proper height for them.

Aanchir, Lychir, if you guys really want super-accurate versions of the sets to be seen, then why not make a Youtube channel yourself and dedicate it to 100% accurate things on everything BIONICLE and LEGO? Seriously. TTV is made up of humans who make mistakes like the rest of us. Misinformation or not, it's not done intentionally. Not everyone has access to the parts required to make the sets completely accurate. Whenever Jangbricks does this no one whines because his are hilariously both like the sets and far away from the sets (nothing against Jang, or his MOCk-ups of future sets but you get the point). Granted, Jang's aren't meant to be 100% accurate recreations but human error is present in everything. I understand what you're both saying (and as much as it annoys me when new fans of LEGO aren't "in the know" so to speak) but you've got to remember that everyone makes mistakes. And the only way to move past a mistake is to learn from it and move on. There were errors in the Tahu build as well, and LEGO employees HELPED them on that. So just keep in mind, mistakes are bound to happen even if they had an official copy.

I'd rather see them all in one video, but with the attention to detail you'd take with a regular set (aside from shared qualities, eg the Kanoka Stud Launcher)

They could have just bought two lots of Cloud Cuckoo land for the gears But yeah, a lot of these look far better IRL rather than CGI, the CGI looked (and still does) horrible to me. It's even worse with the stupid color filter they've put on top of most sets.

@Toa of Gallifrey That part was in use long before Dragon Bolt. It was first used in 2012 sets, in the Winter Wave. And I disagree, as much as I prefer that part it doesn't fit the whole axe style.

Ugh, after seeing the back of his arms I've noticed that all they need to do to fix the whole back armor issue is put some pins in and a 1x3 technic beam in the color of your choosing. edit: clarification: his arms look fine, I'm referring to his back legs being uncovered.

I tried to play MNOG 2 but it looked so incredibly dated in comparison to MNOG 1, which is dreadfully ironic. MNOG 2 was harder to navigate for me, not because I got lost but because of how large the environments were. If they make an OOG, I don't want it to some stupid 3D Unity game like Speedorz or the Invasion From Below game. And I most certainly wouldn't want to see it be an MMO. That would just kill it for me because Chima Online is STILL in Beta (not to mention it feels like it's the "wave goodbye" wave now) and it adds a whole layer of complexity that doesn't need to be there.
