LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
Delta 38 replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well, I got my first lot of minifigs the other day. I got five in total, which I picked using my foolproof method: making sure none of the dots were identical. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do the same in the future, unless I kept the bags they came in (which I did). I found that comparing the dots with the guide was rather difficult, and instead relied on different dots. One thing that really annoys me is the price increase. Previously, the other series (which I missed!) were $3, and now, this series is priced at $5. No wonder the boxes were so full. I hear that there's a similar price increase in other places, too. -
Ah, I see. I don't know what it looks like, but a horse carriage doesn't sound too bad. We definitely need more stuff for the ninjas. Reminds me, I recently got my first sets (the outpost and ambush sets) and I was very surprised. The outpost set's box is tiny! This is an improvement on the designer's part, as it seems box sizes may be going down. I finally understand why the boxes are so large, though. It does feel fairly odd buying a small phone-sized box for $8. On a completely different topic, do you think the earth dragon will contain the normal version of Cole or his DX form? I'm planning everything in advance, so I'd like if he wasn't the DX version.

Yeah, I agree. I've only just seen her alternate costume, and it does look quite nice, however I think it's more likely that we'll just get the regular one. I missed the LAAT/i, so that's fairly good for me. If there are future sets released featuring that episode, maybe we'll see a new minifig, but for now, I'm happy with the normal one.

Interesting. I didn't know there was a problem with it as I don't own it yet. While this mod is a good solution (and should have been done in the first place), I probably can't use it as I haven't got the parts, unless I decide to rip apart a set, which I just might... Edit: I've just taken apart a truck for the parts, so I'll apply this mod as soon as I get the set.

Great! I like the details you put in, such as the Geonosian head, which was the first thing that stood out to me. The design of the creature is also quite nice, as is the roof tiling.
-
Yeah, they seemed to have used an unusual source. Is this speeder featured prominently? I can't even recognise it because of the scale of the set. Maybe it's because it's so angular that they downsized the speeder. I'll still get this, but I'm not overly excited for the speeder itself.

As others have said, the skull truck is from the next wave. There is probably a variation in release as to when they come out (the sets have just started appearing), though the order stays the same, I think. Oh, it's a movie, right. The way the trailers were presented made it seem like a series, which is why I made that comment before. Were there any more interesting vehicles or structures in the movie that might become sets? I'd really like some more buildings, particularly for the skeletons. Although I didn't really want it at first, I'll now get Garmadon's fortress because otherwise the skeletons don't have a base of some sort. Well, now that I know the plot, I have to say that the role I thought Nya previously had seems to have been downgraded. I would have been fine with female ninjas, so long as they looked the same as the current ones to fit in.

I agree with that. The two sides are so diverse that it's almost like two themes in one (though I think it's a bit vehicle-dominant). As I missed the original ninja theme, and these skeletons are new, it's somewhat convenient that the two ideas were merged. I can't believe I didn't notice before (probably because I don't recall seeing them), but in those promotional videos, the skull truck can be seen. How long will the series last for? Maybe the series is intended to be short (completed fully) so some of the new sets can be seen.

Wow, that's definitely a missed opportunity. I don't have a sea star or snow-covered tree. I'm not much for ripping apart sets (besides these games sets), but I do like to hoard nice pieces like these. Oh well. That printed tile also looks nice. There are more board game sets? I thought they would have ran out of ideas. I'm glad that they are continuing, though, because I do mostly buy them for parts here and there. Sunblock, for example, will contain my first crab piece!

Yeah, I'm becoming paranoid about the filled-in heads. It could be quality-related, but it's not because of the head being Chinese or not, I think. If you look at Stegoceras' review here, three of his Clones came with these heads. The components aren't made in China, and I haven't got the same problem. I guess it just varies, maybe they're using a prototype mould or something that got mixed into various sets from different themes.

I noticed something fairly important... You know how there's a Lego Universe newsletter that you can have sent to your email? I've subscribed to that as I was previously in the beta, though I don't (and won't) actually own Lego Universe itself. Anyway, in this particular email, it shows an interesting image. I know lots of the pieces in the game don't exist and probably won't because of obvious reasons, but I did, however, see something that will: Clearly, the green-armoured minifig at the bottom-right corner is holding two of the new double-barreled pistols (the second is cut off, but it is there). I am almost certain that this is a new mould instead of binoculars on an existing gun. It's nice to know I was right about it being a new mould. No copyright infringement of any sort intended, though, as I couldn't find a high-resolution version of the image and had to link directly from the email's image source. The contents of the email have also been released on the official website, but the image hasn't, so I guess it's okay.

Yeah, totally. I don't/can't buy online often, which is too bad as buying online would save you hundreds over here. Is the mothership that big? I think it just looks big because of the large space left, but the price isn't very logical. At least the four smallest sets are affordable, but I really did want that mothership. Oh well...
-
Ah, I see now. I've heard about the heads being filled in, and I don't think it's related to whether they are Chinese or not. I heard about it in relation to the Mandalorian battlepacks in the Star Wars line, and today I bought a heap of sets, none of which had filled-in heads.
-
Wait, head included? That's strange, unless you're talking about the spinner sets. I don't really know how to distinguish Chinese plastic personally. Well, I guess if you're a skeleton fan that it won't matter whether you choose to buy the sets or the spinners.
-
I'm not exactly a fan of minis as you can't get them here, but I think the vulture droid is very nice. It looks like it could be modified into its walking position too. Unfortunately, as minis aren't usually released here, that means I miss out on good ones such as the Clone walker.
-
Ooh, activity books. Last time I checked, all of the minifigures included with those books aren't Chinese. I might pick up another blue ninja if I find one of these books. Watches, games and a minifig clock, amongst all the other merchandise? Wow, they must really have high hopes for this line. One thing which has been annoying me is that getting multiples of the white ninja is hard, especially in a small set. The ice dragon contains a DX figure and the spinners are out of the option, so I hope they add another white ninja into a set in the next wave.
-
Wait, so if this doesn't contain a spinner, are the parts still Chinese? While I don't want another Sensei Wu as I will be getting the set he's in, the weapons, particularly the lightning pieces, are good enough a reason for me to buy this.
-
That may be, but at least the skull design looks better in my opinion. It looks more alien with those teeth. I see, I see. Yeah, that would be logical. If the spinners were just plastic, they wouldn't spin very well. They must be confident about the success of these spinners, because we've got clear packaging, metal components and competition to other collectible tops and things. Overall, that adds up to a very expensive price, especially here. They are about $16 or so, and that's nearly enough to buy a battle pack.
-
Oh, that's interesting. Most images I've seen are of the motorcycle in its prototype version. Unlike you, I prefer the newer version as it looks more futuristic and clean. One modification I'd like to make is remove those two technic connectors at the sides of the skull and replace them with white ones to give a better impression of horns. Edit: Wait a second, is the first one the prototype or the production version? I now think the first one is actually the production version. I prefer the lower one anyhow. They really should have kept that design if that is the prototype...

I would have preferred a realistic series of human vehicles, in a similar vein to those from Halo (obviously, I'm a fan of that too ). If they were a darker colour, kids wouldn't be attracted to them. Having said that, though, Halo has a nice balance with the overly colourful side (the aliens) and the realistic side (the humans). The series is both more realistic and aesthetically attractive because of this. It would be nice to see something like that in the future, but unless the target audience is changed, I think it's quite unlikely. I'm not completely sure, but there seems to be a new trident/pitchfork in the upcoming Kingdoms sets. There are a few new moulds for weapons and things in those sets, so if the trident is a new design, it will probably be reused here. Unless there's been a previous mould that I don't know about, the Atlantis trident is too angular to look like a pitchfork.

Nothing wrong with that name, is there? Seriously though, even after trying to force myself to see it, I still can't see those stickers as windows. It's probably the weird angle.

Oh, I actually was talking about Luke from his landspeeder. I don't actually own the book, but I noticed that the minifigs contained had the same eyebrow "problem". Wait, really? So that's what it was! I thought it was some squadron symbol or something.
-
Hmm. I'm guessing the exclusive minifig is another ceremonial figure. Perhaps it would be the same ceremonial Luke variant which we got before. New characters altogether seem very unlikely, and it's a shame that transparent minifigs are impossibilities. George Lucas, however, sounds plausible (albeit a little random ). Speaking of Luke, I got Luke's landspeeder (finally!) a couple of months back and noticed his eyebrows were printed low. I also looked at some of those Lukes included with the book and noticed most also had low eyebrows. Is this intentional? The eyebrows do kind of make him look younger, though.

Well, the spinner sets are now out here, but no sign of the actual sets. I'm very tempted to pick up some of the skeletons, mainly because of weapons that are exclusive to them. I really want the gold pickaxe and gold bone piece. The good thing is, I should have enough spare arms from the sets to convert them.
