General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Delta 38 replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
I got my first set today, and I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the packaging seems a lot more glossy than usual. I wonder if this (plus the licensing) is another reason why the sets here are more expensive. -
I own a couple of Chinese minifigures, but I think there is a definite quality difference between those and the collectible minifigs. The plastic seems weaker, joints are looser, and the colour is a bit off. I don't really mind these though as it's only a select group of minifigures which have these problems, and they're pretty good in terms of uniqueness to probably justify their price tag somewhat. I think those Toy Story minifigs (some of them) were Chinese, and I have no problem with them whatsoever. I don't have problems with other Chinese parts from sets either. I don't know what the spinner packs are like in terms of quality as I haven't bought one and never will, but I think comparing them to collectible minifigures might be slightly imbalanced.

You're right. I don't like that alternate face at all, it just doesn't look... right. It doesn't even look like something we'd see out of a Clone Wars set. The helmet looks quite nice, though.

A comic book? I guess it was bound to happen. We've already had a video game and a movie, anyway. On a slightly related topic, a free Ninjago app was released for the iPhone/iPod some time ago. Even though it is a free game, I think they're putting a lot of effort into merchandise and marketing this line.

Ooh, nice! The colour scheme and overall aesthetic works really well. On a slightly related topic, I'm regretting not buying any Batman sets, as I've been playing the video game lately.

REVIEW - Cars 2 - 8200-1: Radiator Springs Lightning McQueen
Delta 38 replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Licensed
Though I don't really like the parts sticking out myself, I think if they didn't then they would be considered even more "<insert that tiresome argument>" then they are now. It would also make it look a bit too streamlined, in my opinion. Anyway, nice review. -
Yeah, you're probably right. I'm not sure what can be changed with the Snowspeeder, though. With the Battle of Endor, the last AT-ST released was in 2007 (which is the one I own), so there has been a gap of two years or so between the latest standalone AT-ST and the one in the Battle of Endor. Obviously, the newer one is more accurate, but for some reason I prefer the more blocky 2007 one. The Snowspeeder, though, doesn't really have anything that can be changed from my viewpoint. The next step is to probably go bigger. Edit: Why is the Battle of Endor $180? Oh well, looks like I won't be getting it after all.

REVIEW - Cars 2 - 8424-1: Mater's Spy Zone
Delta 38 replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Licensed
Hmm. The pink car seemed more of a purple colour on the box and images, it's a bit brighter than I expected. Unexpectedly, those guns Mater has will be useful to me, as I don't own any of those particular types. I don't think cars are meant to have guns anyway. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion
Delta 38 replied to eiker86's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Oh, wow. The minifigures are definitely getting better. Looks like another costly year ahead. -
Yay, another review. I think I prefer Mater to Lightning McQueen, because while it's still a bit too blocky for me, Lightning McQueen looks a bit too streamlined.
-
Yeah, good point. The AT-ST in the Battle of Endor set was probably one of the major reasons I didn't buy the set though, as I already had one and the price might not have been justified (though I didn't see the set that often even if I did want to get it anyway). A Snowspeeder might be okay, but again if this is a large set, I'd rather have the piece count go towards extra rooms and physical features. (Though to contradict everything I've just said, if I did manage to find the Battle of Endor, I would probably buy it. )

REVIEW - Cars 2 - 8423-1: World Grand Prix Racing Rivalry
Delta 38 replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Licensed
Oh that's right, the release is May. I forgot about that. I'll wait for more reviews then. -
D2C: Atlantis - Kraken's Treasure
Delta 38 replied to chief's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I like the building and the giant clam, they could be a nice standalone battle pack or something. The transforming squid and vehicle is a nice idea, too. -
REVIEW - Cars 2 - 8423-1: World Grand Prix Racing Rivalry
Delta 38 replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Licensed
Yay, printed car pieces! They're already out here though? Anyway, nice review. -
Nice. The green ball is a little distracting, but overall the design is pretty good. And yay, farmer minifig.
-
Hmm. If it's a similar size to the Battle of Endor, hopefully it won't include an AT-ST or things that I don't particularly want. I'm not sure whether to be excited or not. Knowing the scale of the set now means that there's less of a chance that I'll get it anyway...

D2C Contest: Ninjago Battle Chess Arena
Delta 38 replied to kris kelvin's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Wow, that's great! It actually does look like a real-life chess set. One minor complaint about the horses having printing, but I guess you can't help that. Anyway, great work. I could imagine something like this being sold. -
Ooh, nice. Great photos too, they look official.
-
Yet another promotion I'm going to miss out on, but nice all the same... I also just noticed the absence of pupils (the white parts, that is), but that's easily explainable. It makes the figure look more inanimate, too.
-
I'm not particularly fond of modular buildings as they're way out of my price range, but this is quite nice. I was expecting some new animal moulds, though. The new orange fish is useful, but that seems to be the only new animal piece.
-
Unfortunately, I'll be missing out on this. I hope it's going to appear in some expensive set in the future, even if it is meant to be "exclusive". Anyway, very nice. The torso could be useful for a "shadow" Clone Trooper, if a black helmet existed.
-
Oh, that head is in three parts? I thought it was one whole piece. That's amazing, I'll try to pick up the Mothership for a cheaper version of the head if Star Wars allows me to. A few nice things here, like those syringes and torsos. I didn't notice there were different ADU torsos beforehand.
-
Nice! I missed images of the Bentley set. but I've now seen the other two. Both of them are very nice. I didn't expect myself to be slowly gravitating towards collecting most of the sets in this theme, like what happened with Toy Story. I haven't even seen the movies either. I'm thinking of getting the V8 Cafe and the Spy Jet... they've suddenly become very appealing indeed.
-
Sounds like what it would cost here... Hopefully it's not too inflated. I actually do want this Advent calendar, and I missed the previous ones (including some nice ones like the Kingdoms one). Those lightsaber hilts on the X-Wing and Y-Wing look like the metallic sort, if I'm not wrong. That could be useful.
-
Wait, you get a spare pistol in that set? Do they normally include spare pieces like this in a set? I thought that only common and smaller pieces (antenna pieces, visors, studs and so on) were included as spares. Either way, that's great news for additional figure customisation. The civilian figure with the tripod is great, whether you want to use it as a normal businessman or the Tenth Doctor. We definitely need more variety with minifigs like this. Edit: oh look! The weapons in the Defender can be removed easily without ruining the design. More weapons, yay!
