Hmm, interesting. I'm not sure how good this would be as an actual calendar, but it's certainly good as a parts pack. It does look like it's Chinese though, seeing how it includes two collectible minifigs all in the same bag.

Great idea! Interesting that the sand is part of the MOC (in a way) rather than being scenery. I don't think I've seen anything that uses actual sand as part of the design.

Hmm, a new Leia? I didn't really expect that, so I may be interested in this set. The red Protocol droid is nice, but I won't be satisfied when I don't own the black and white Protocol droids to go with it.

Wow, that's great! The use of the arched pieces for wings works really well, too. Overall it looks like a nice displayable model.
-
Hmm, the Millennium Falcon does look odd. The front portion looks strange, but I don't really know why. Maybe it's too long? Oh well, it's not on the top of my priority list, anyway.

Unfortunately, another nice promo set that I'm missing out on. Are there actually any stores in Australia that do stock promos? I'm missing out on lots of nice sets.

Interesting. This will be useful in the future for comparing colours. That tile idea is good, too. Though online catalogues will make it kind of redundant, it would be a nice collectible item and I prefer seeing the colours myself in person.

Nice poster, I thought the same thing when I saw the alien "pet". I agree about the hairpiece being a little unsuitable for civilian minifigures like this guy, but this is an alien invasion, after all.

I just noticed something! The new Clones from the Frigate don't have the smaller visor print, like the Clones in the battlepack. That's a little odd, because I kind of prefer the smaller visor, and I expected it to replace the longer one. Also, I had hoped that Obi-Wan would have hair, or possibly a new hair mould. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

Eight figures sounds pretty realistic. The lack of an AT-ST, Snowspeeder or other largish vehicle is good news to me, as they use up pieces that could go towards more expansion of the base. The red Protocol droid sounds nice, but that's the only interesting figure for me. The reviews are also nice. The figures in the Frigate are great, and it looks to be at around the same size as its predecessor. Again, I'm not sure about the price tag, so that'll be low priority for now.

Interesting. The feature of taking off the layers is quite nice, it makes it less bulky (though I guess that's the whole point) and it looks better. Those purple pieces are potentially useful, though I don't think I could afford it after Star Wars hits.

Oh, wow. That is some rather nice box art, definitely better than those generic locations and lasers we often see. I'm not overjoyed that it's another exclusive set, but at least I have a chance of getting it this time.

D2C Contest: Attack on the Nile

Wow, great! That's almost perfect, the boat could use some detailing on the sides but I guess stickers would work. The artwork is convincing and it's a set I'd like to buy myself, so great work! -
Wow, that's kind of scary. From the front he looked okay, and I wasn't worried about the headpiece. From the side, however, it just looks so... unnatural. I'm also surprised that the headpiece is the standard hard plastic, because I expected it to be one of those rubber ones.

That's a good point. Personally, I don't buy UCS sets, because they're too large or I can't find them in stores, so I don't exactly display my sets in glass cases or anything. The playability factor is probably not needed, though. Since the ship is meant to be primarily a display model, the interior is probably a bad thing seeing as the price and design will be altered. That's like making the Death Star II in playset form; it would ruin the half-completed look and just wouldn't work. Somehow, I get the feeling that the interior will be fairly bland...

I was talking about the sets that I own, but yes, you're right. It's nice that they have a checklist at the end of the instructions. They should include more things like that for minifigures in licensed themes, perhaps.

Yeah, I've been surprised by the prices and the release dates too. I saw the V8 Cafe today, and I considered buying it. However, I'm going to have to really save up for Star Wars, so I decided against it. Anyway, I've officially completed my collection. I've bought all the small sets, and I have a total of ten characters (or eleven if you count the ship), so I'm pretty happy with that.

Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
Delta 38 replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Wait, wait, that was mispriced? That's great! I didn't even know about that, and neither did the staff, it seems. I bought my Cannibal Escape on Thursday, and I wasn't aware of this. Unfortunately, one thing that's escaped me is the Isla de Muerta set. It's not at my local Target, and looks like I'll just need to buy this at retail price, oh well. Anyway, Pharaoh's Quest is exciting, if it starts showing up soon. I'm glad I don't have any major plans (just the four smallest sets), because that would really throw my Star Wars plans out of balance. -
I agree. There should probably be more alien types, too. There are only three types if you count the Emperor and the cyborg as being the same type, and I think there should be at least four considering the rarity of the Emperor/cyborg.

It kind of is, yeah. We can't have detailed interiors with most sets, and some won't have interiors at all. So, I got three sets today, being Lightning Mcqueen, Mater's Spy Zone and Escape at Sea. The printing is quite nice on them, and I was surprised with some things, such as the printed bricks that Mater has (I think those are my first printed bricks).
-
I was surprised to see that most of the Cars sets were on shelves today. It's a bit odd when a set you only knew about for a week suddenly appears in stores. I didn't see them today, but I'm wondering if I should get Mack, the Spy Jet Escape and the V8 Cafe. They've all got nice characters, but the Spy Jet stands out because replacing the windshield gives you a perfectly normal jet.
-
What? I think there are different styles you can build it in, or something.

While that's true, I haven't noticed any major problems with my other Chinese minifigures that aren't in the collectible minifigure line. The problems that I have with my collectible minifigs aren't that much of an issue though. I think you're right in that people naturally assume Chinese parts are of a lower quality, but I didn't even notice this for a while until people started complaining about magnet sets, which I can't buy here anyway. Still, either way, the price of the spinner packs are enough to keep me away. I could buy a battle pack-sized set with the same amount of money.

Yeah, the printed tile/sticker appears lighter than the actual pieces around it, so it's definitely that. Wow, I've been mentioned on the front page! Anyway, while the characters are nice, the tower itself seems unfinished and fairly empty. It will probably be pretty expensive too, so I'll give this set a pass.

Brickset has an image of the Big Bentley Bust Out set: It looks nice, but a lot larger than I expected. It also looks like a rather big spoiler for the movie.
