Odd, because I thought that the size rule was the one with more chances of striking out 1 third of the entries... Edit: Didn't the contest end already? If I understand things correctly, it is the 9:36 AM of 18th in NZT Edit II: Ok... The thread says 17th, the extension post says 18th. I think that since the thread is what most people read after the second deadline it should be that date.

Toopic: Megabloks quality : Seems to be very variable among years, basically even though I have been close to many megabloks bricks due to finding them in random bulks I buy weekly, It seems that quality is always different from too bad to hard to distinguish from LEGO o_O. Sets: Let me say: Megabloks HALO sets and other sci fi stuff they made over the years = Cool. However, whenever I see a megabloks boat, it seems to be made of about 20 pieces in total (ok, it is about 300, but for something as big as a flag ship it should have more parts than that, about 5x more...). I think that if I was a fan that bought a large mega ship (I've seen this happen with PotC and also some sort of medieval theme) and find out that the boat itself is composed of giantic pieces it would be disappointing. I have some of the pieces that form hulls and it is amazing... That's disappointing because from what I could tell, large megabloks boats are not really inexpensive, it is about half of what you pay for a large LEGO boat, but the LEGO boat has about 5x the value. It does have large pieces, but nothing as bad as the mega one... Now if I were to comment on Mega minifigs... I just don't like the design direction they took... However, I am pretty sure that if I am given the chance to buy one of the huge HALO space ships I will do it.

Hey that's a cool blacktron fig. May I ask where does the head piece come from?

I picked the wrong term - CGI. It is the lack of borders and the faded colors that makes them look out of place for me. The skin has a lot more solid colors , there are faded colors but not as much. The colors in that yellow brick are more solid which makes the borders more noticeable. Or perhaps it is because of the use of a primal color instead of the strange colors chosen or something. I seldom like anti-aliased stuff and much prefer edginess, it is just an opinion though. The logo in the top : Also shows more solid colors in the brick.

The idea of using studs is fine. But I don't really the drawing style that was used. CGI studs don't really match the rest of the site, and I really dislike things with faded colors when stylish and cartoony looks much better. Consider the style of our emoticons: Or the way bricks are usually represented in bricklink:

So I had my suspicions about people just linking to galleries when the rules said 'thread' but since no one said anything about that I just did it to save time. Now that it turns out my suspicions were right, I have to make this thread: WarFare Well, I thought that in regards to negative concepts, war is at least around the top 3, bonus points because it is also stupid. "That would make a good villain!" I thought, so I did it. (click the thumbnails to see larger versions) I was looking to do something that resembles a soldier but is also deform (as it is supposed to be a Hero Factory villain), so I tried a strange build. I ended using a pair of Inika hips as shoulders by necessity, improvised it by turning them into weapons, I think that is going to be my motto - "When in doubt, make it a weapon". Then I thought a head was going to be easy by using kanohi creatively, but nothing I could try really worked that well. At the end I was shocked to find an actual use for the Hockey player masks... For some reason there is always tons of LEGO hockey pieces whenever I buy a large enough bulk of "Bionicle" parts, so I have many of them around. Something that is not easy to see is that the torso and the backpack are connected by a black rubber band. The official reason is that it makes it look like a real backpack. The real reason is that both the sides of the torso and the backpack were very loose and used to move quite funny when you tried to pose WarFare, I was lucky to find such a good solution.

Not a lucky find per se as every LEGO fan in my city that has self respect would go to that store when looking for LEGO products, but it is lucky because I thought it was going to be impossible for retailers to get them anymore this late. Today I went by that toy store and it turns out they finally received the remaining 2010 products, including: Collectible minifigs series 1 and 2 :) Since I wasn't expecting to have to spend stuff today I didn't brought much money with me so I only bought two, will see bar codes before opening so maybe if it was not the fig I wanted I will keep it MISB for a couple of years and try selling it later... Edit: They were a Forestman and a Mage.

Warfare Once a famous general, Warrick Farrow has gone senile and tormented by the idea of how world peace will mark the extinction of warriors like him. He has decided to fuse his mind into a machine and War Fare was born, a machine of destruction controlled by a brain that wants to bring war back to the world. Extreme caution! Warfare's shoulder guns allow rapid fire while its powerful bazooka can destroy even the most resistant targets and may also use a bayonet for close combat. This criminal is a threat to the whole world and must be neutralized promptly. Link to thread

Winged Hazards These flying bots with three laser guns are used by Rotor for support during aerial strikes.

It is a given there will be no deep space theme (unless Star wars counts) for the first half of 2011. But I am hopeful about the second half. My dream theme would be "Spyrius vs. Ice Planet 2" Bonus points if the Spyrius have mechs and the Ice planet sets use new trans orange instead of neon orange :)

10 bucks they will go with "Stormer 3000". (In case there is a third wave). I think that seeing that the pics are probably CGIs or prototypes what we see in the pics and this discussion does not really matter that much. What I can say is that the sites offering the heroes for preorder have piece counts - 30 and that's certainly higher than what we had in the first wave.

I just hope battle of naboo isn't too expensive. It would really make up for the not-so outstanding BPs (I was never big on clones and mandalorians look just like blue clones to me).

I think Weiss is older than Swartchz and Valkyrie (sp?). I think it is likely Weiss already had children in the original timeline and scretching things to my convenience, I think the timeline is 30 years into the future.

Ew, it looks like a plate with some blue squares on top. No wonder why these guys can only compete by suing phone companies that do not use dows mobile thing.

Comparing collectible vs 'classic' minifigs
vexorian replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Weapons are a case of TLG using more flexible plastic for safety concerns and the result is fairy awful. It happens all the time with Bionicle. I guess it happened with system. If a minifig head piece looks more opaque it is low quality and a downer. -
I complain about the clonism of the Bohroks. The main difference though is that the Bohrok design was worth cloning. They rock and are completely packed of features and INCREDIBLY USEFUL PARTS (I mean seriously, the shields were also basic stuff for titans and vehicles, whereas the canopy and eyes became such basic building blocks that even HF had to use them...) whereas NS... well, besides of all pics I could see of them being very disappointing. The few NS stuff I could get over the time in random lots is full of pieces that are useless in anything else, comparable to Galidor in uber specialization. Even Ben 10 parts are more versatile. And from what I can see from HF 2.0, it would be very unfair to equal it to NS...

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
vexorian replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Still undecided about the "B" being a B. It could be a power core. Lack of better res pics does not help. Squidman's head may be a placeholder. -
Meh neo shifers aren't even worthy of a comparison, whereas the 2.0 heroes are looking even more versatile than Bionicle parts. NS were never really that good at having versatile pieces...
-
Some people have been saying that this is a jump of the shark, but I think that the new parts may as well mean this is HF's growing of the beard taking steps away of Bionicle and going with more versatile parts while adding a true hero factory. The pick axe among other things are what put the preliminary in the villains. or system rods. That's the only thing I don't like, the sockets could have been cross sockets instead of just system rod sockets, would have made things even more versatile.

The bootleggers would easily have connections with/own a store and that means they can get the whole manual without much effort.Bootleggers can't do much without instructions though. Clone brands generally have years old projects in the course and do not need to rush, waiting 3 months for official pics is as easy to copy ideas. Sorry, but I don't think that's true. The other day plenty of sites published a lot of confidential documents from twitter's inner workings. Then we have that site which completely leaked the iphone 4.0. It does not seem an individual is liable to confidential bindings unless he himself signed the NDA.

It is not like removing the pics stops the hype. A lot of people that get to forums and sites after the deletion get curious and google for the pics and end up getting in plenty of places where they are talking about the new sets.Waiting some hours before asking for removal I think actually increases the hype.

Hmnn wow, to be honest I have been getting a lot of different 'samples' (it is like going to the zoo) due to buying bulks of parts for very cheap. There is almost always about 10% content in clone brands and bootlegs and I plan to donate them to charity by the end of the year. I never really stopped to think about poisoning, well, in my case I live in a country where nobody would care. Kids just avoid eating things or they die because even if there wasn't poison, a clinic would not attend them in time for choking and stuff. That said I never heard of cases of lead poisoning even though most kids get the worst quality possible of toys. Of course, now that you mention it, I am giving it second thoughts about donating all my clones. That said, I keep the clones very close to some "Magnetix" samples I have and I did not see the magnets attracting any pieces from my clone/bootleg samples, although I never actively tried. How do you recognize enlighten bricks? I can identify megabloks and TyCo (yeah they make bricks too for some reason) but the other tons of brands aare a little hard to identify. I am actually surprised to hear about it because I thought that lead was used in paint, and I really hope your bootleg was so bad that the pieces were painted, was it? Edit : Anyway, enlighten is an infamous bootleg brand that steal designs from LEGO. Clone brands are actually legit companies that do not steal designs and at least try not to do terrible in the quality department, for example megabloks, Cobi, oxford and the most recent click brick. The brick patent has expired long ago so it is not illegal to use the same brick design and dimensions for compatibility, that's what clone brands do.

The heroes maybe, but there is no way the villains in those pics were finished :) New molds are as specialized or less specialized than what we had in 2010. "Shared" weapons (or rather actually getting to build the weapon) is a great change from bionicle, in my opinion. With 30 pieces each, regardless of the impulse tag, there is no way they are anything close like neo shitfers :) 2.0 is the hero core version :) It could be that in storyline something happens to Bulk and Stringer. Or maybe Bulk and Stringer will come in a limited edition set. I'll give it to you that the villains look very bad, but they are all preliminary pics so I am holding some hopes. Remember 2010 how terrible Rotor seemed.
-
The villains are fire based but the heroes are not fire fighters (ie: you are not seeing hoses in all of the heroes...) the theme is still about generic hero stuff but the first wave of 2011 will be against this fire lord guy and his three right hands...

If you look up close it has its bits of compatibility with system. I think that most of the Bionicle crowd don't like it either, so you'll need low prices. I would personally pay that price but I am not in the US (and if I was in the US I think it would be possible to find it at cheaper than 5 + shipping)
