LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
vexorian replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Is it me or is the snowboarder female? Perhaps TLG heard the complaints about the roles chosen for female figs. Gorilla and Sumo could really use a bulkier torso. It is time for TLG to try making one... The sumo I think will improve over time, but nonetheless the hair piece would at least be useful for people wanting to do accurate Japanese soldiers. I don't really like that the Alien, the "Cyborg" and the Space man all have basically the same accessory in different color. Even though getting those guns in many colors is great, it would have been nicer to have different accessories. I think I will really try to make a pact to buy a whole box, because I'll really need plenty of cyborgs and samurais. I'll just have to find more local AFOLs, which I know exist but never really interacted with any :/ -

Either that or more adults will buy whole boxes now that there are no bar codes. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion

Series 3 is looking gorgeous, it seems like as usual the first is the idea, the second the polish and the third will be the definite template. Only thing I do not like about it right now is that as if we didn't need more nails in the SP3 (and also Space themes in 2011) coffin the Space guy and the Alien pretty much confirm all our fears... -
Hehe. So it was true. The theme is about ninjas vs skeletons using technology So my guesses: - Ninjas fight the skeletons through time. - As a firm believer of the rule of cool: Sets will sell like pancake. All while AFOLs will decry it for being ridiculous they will secretly buy as part of a guilty pleasure. Kids will love it. - If it is confirmed the ninjas have mechs, and that's very likely so. I am gonna spend a lot on this theme. Anyway, the blurry, preliminar pic is not going to be helpful at all at predicting how the actual figs and the vehicles will look so I wouldn't bother about it.

Nice kermit, but it is just one pic. If the upload limit is hurting you, may I recommed brickshelf?

I am attempting to rebuild/revamp some of my favorite Slizers. So far, I rebuilt Electro, Flare, Turbo and Blaster. Though to be honest, Turbo and Blaster raised the bar (even though they are not great mocs, they are still better than the other two) so I plan re-revamping Electro and flare before releasing. Here is Blaster. Note that I took tons of "artistic" licenses (more of licenses than artistic) so my revamps are pretty insane or nonsensical in some parts. (click thumbnails for larger pics) Oh yeah, Blaster used to be the largest Slizer, but then things like the exo-toa and Brutaka started to appear on my display area and Blaster started to look small. The project to rebuild a bigger Blaster started. Ultra large gun? To me the wing part in his left arm in the original design was meant to be a blaster or something. Which made me go towards the big gun. The legs, I like what I did there. Weaponry. Sorry about the white stuff. It seems that dust is a mild issue only until you ask your brother to take close up pictures with his ultra high res cam in a place with "good" lighting. I was not aware of it until seeing the picture. The small missiles are meant to be shootable. Yes, there is a canon just inside the head, in part it is because of how slizer heads work and cooperate (or fail to cooperate) with the design. Yeah, the legs work, it is fairy stable considering it is heavy and the Gun is way heavier.

So a slizer/bionicle fan ends his dark age. Tries to rebuild some old sets, but they are either kind of small in comparison to the newer ones or some pieces seem missing. Answer: He makes mocs instead. Here is Turbo. Note that I took tons of "artistic" licenses (more of licenses than artistic) so my revamps are pretty insane or nonsensical in some parts. Click thumbnails for bigger pics: Turbo's personality seems to be "fast and green". Back in the old days I actually got me the medium sized green car just because of the metallic green wings, with intentions to do something like this. 8 years later I actually manage to do it. Sort of. Of course, just wheels and disk thrower are not enough for the current times: Remember what I said about artistic licenses? Hidden saws and canons, plus the metallic wing parts work as armor. Yeah, it is probably over the top.

It is not just about some parts being impossible to produce in better plastic. The quality is worse than 'normal' minifigs. People have noted plastic differences in head and hands between collectible minifigs and those we find in sets . There are also production issues: People have reported legs that are looser than in usual minifigs. Personally, I have seen off printing in many of the pictures so far, that's the only issue I can for now detect as I have not gotten access to the minifigs yet. Seeing as to how they are supposed to be collectable, I wish TLG would have raised the price and given us better plastic than usual, instead of the other way.

No wonder TRU is basically giving these away!

I would have tried some for the parts if not for the freak-expensiveness. Even glatorian pricing would at least be acceptable, but 15 is just too much. -
Wow, does the post actually say that Ninjago is "Ninjas vs Skeletos WITH technology"? My wallet is going to suffer.
-
Sounds strange, I mean , isn't ninjago an action theme? And so is atlantis, then does this mean we are going to have 3 action themes?
-
It is indeed disappointing TLG would outsource plastic for these things, considering how incredibly hard to find they are and how their retail cost is the same as impulse sets that come with bricks AND a normal quality minifig. I would really not like to buy 30 of these to complete the series only to find out the plastic looks like Woma... I am actually glad it is unlikely those figs come to my country.

Hey, doesn't the EU already have enough clone brands around? I think LEGO's legal attempt was to cause a change, but now with the ruling, there won't be a change. Ultimately, competition may be good or bad for LEGO but it is good for us. Anyway, it is not like Clone Brands stopped selling until the ruling was made. So it is unlikely we'll see more clones because of the ruling. It is also a major statement to say that LEGO will be forced to compete with lower prices = worse quality. TLG's way to compete against megabloks in the US does not indicate that it is the way they compete... Clearly, not all costumers want just lower prices. Else we would all be just happy with the clones already.

Yeah, I suspected as such...Will we get into a grand father paradox soon? :)
-
Meh. I just hope the Racer X helmets don't triple in price after this. It looks... perfect. Man I actually freaked out when I saw that and thought you must have used a decal or something.

Due to a lot of bulk purchases of used parts that usually come with clone garbage as well. I have pieces that look like those. They are pretty bad as a clone since they are not compatible with anything else. I'd rather find megabloks et all in the bags I buy because since they are compatible with one another at least they will be useful for charity donations. I honestly don't know what to do with the ~6 pieces I have that look like the ones in your pics. Since they are not even LEGO compatible, I think you got robbed :(. The whole story about they being old Lego makes me think those people were intentionally deceitful, shame on them.

She did break the intercom, so without being able to tell anybody about it, there's little Jawson can do about it.

It does make separating plates easier.

It is a town sub-theme so it is highly unlikely.

Well, it is deep and very interesting. But it is a typical corporation sponsored research. The conclusion is almost an advert :) (I mean, take a look at page 84). Not like I disagree with the conclusion, but still: I don't think it was meant to earn anyone's masters but just to show how LEGO fits in this new world and why should parents be buying more of it (and they should). Regarding LDD, I wonder how many kids actually use it. I will not put in doubt that many are probably perfectly capable of doing so but as far as a 'toy' LDD doesn't have the physical part that would attract kids to LEGO or the interactive part that would make them want to play video games. So really, does anyone know how strongis LDD doing with kids? It always seemed like AFOL-service to me:)

I like it. I disagree with the posts about the body being too small in comparison to the head. I think the real problem is that the arms are hard to see. Granted, T-rex had freak small arms, but these ones need to be slightly larger, imho.

I'll try getting one of the mechs I saw in September as an experiment*. With some luck I'll try a review if not just some pics and opinions of the quality. Again, The plastic quality didn't seem terribly awful at first sight but I can't be sure without really touching the bricks. I don't really have my hopes up now that I know it is a bootleg, in fact, I am not sure I like the idea of rewarding such behavior with a purchase. * Unless someone makes a good review before I am able to purchase it and the plastic quality is proven terrible.

Yeah I also use containers that were actually meant for food ( R&M "tuppers" ) and they are FTw. The food industry is a blessing for the AFOL. They are inexpensive and since they are meant for food, they close hermetically so your pieces will be protected from the elements, and the stacking cannot ever be forgotten. Plus they come in all sizes. My relatively-small collection keeps changing in size and also in what specific kinds of bricks I have the most so it is nice to just be able to buy more containers if needed and also to just move to a bigger/smaller container for a piece kind when its availability varies. Edit: My current worst worry is the sun. How do you guys protect from UV lights? Is just avoiding direct sun light enough? Or is light reflected from the sky also as harmful? I have some space but most of it is close to a source of natural light.
