Who have you banned from looking at/touching/playing with your LEGO
AFOLguy1970 replied to legoman19892's topic in Community
My sons have plenty of their own sets. They are 5 and 7 years old and have not learned how to take care of things. They often lose pieces and sometimes damage them. My MOC project, Modulars, and Lord of the Rings collection is off limits to them. Someday, it will all be theirs, but not until they can appreciate it.- 64 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
It is quite possible that Grand Emporium sales are doing well because so many people think it is the next one to go, therefore they are buying it before it is gone. You have people who are new to Lego or someone who just came out of a Dark Age who decided that modulars are great, and they are! Naturally, if you wanted to collect them all, you focus on the one at risk of going first. Then, you have others who want to make a profit and are stocking up on them assuming the price will skyrocket when they retire. I will bet they are not going to be happy when TH suddenly disappears and GE is still around. I have not really decided about TH one way or the other. This is currently the only remaining modular on the market I do not own, but it does not really excite me as much as some of the others. Hopefully it will not be long, and the rumors of the new modular will start to surface. A bank does sound nice and would fit right in a central town scheme. -
List the Female Minifigure Leaders
AFOLguy1970 replied to Mister Phes's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I was going to suggest her, but she is subject to her mother (Hippolyte) who is Queen of the Amazons. As a member of the Justice League, she does not lead it, although I would say she shares power with the others. -
Jean Lafitte is quite the legend around the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast. It would be great to have him in a set. I agree that historically accurate pirates would be great for all. I would also like to see a Spanish fort design like the one in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Agreed, I do not really care much for stickers. However, it does appear that the slopes with the planet logo will be printed. Some highly detailed photos indicate that those parts are not stickers. The others will likely be stickers, but I can live with it. To date, I have yet to buy two of anything, but this might be the first time I do so: one set for the spaceship, and one for creating a Classic Space MOC of some kind.- 2,626 replies

It looks like most things have already been covered. If you plan on buying any of the official modular sets to add to the ones of your own design, bear in mind that each lego modular has a white lampost. They all match when put together. The pieces are really easy to gather. They also typically use a couple of metallic grill plates for the street. If you want the sidewalks to look uniform, then this would be the way to go.

What do you mean by "still"? I never ever saw those bricks on a PAB wall. Had they been there, at least one cup would have been nothing but those regardless of which color they were.

This. I would like to eventually do a mod on something like this and make the building modular size, and then add it to my other modulars. Ideally, it would come with some printed tiles for the newspapers and have some type of assembly line. It absolutely must have the iconic planet, preferable on top of the building. An old style phone booth on the outside would be great. Also, have both Clark Kent and Superman in the set.

I ordered the new battle pack (Lion group) because it looked interesting. After reading this thread, it is somewhat disappointing that it all comes preassembled. I thought the whole point of Lego is that you get to put things together. Yes I know that it would take very little time to put 4 guys together, but still, half the fun is the assembly. Even the minifig packs come in pieces. I also agree that Forest Ambush seems to be a better deal, because you get the same number of minifigs, but more parts.

Some popular (and possible) theories: (1) The light demand from wave 2 has led Lego to believe it would not be profitable to produce wave 3. As you will see from the thread, the choice of sets/characters in wave 2 has often led to the blame for not selling well. (2) The Lego Movie came out this year and had quite a few sets associated with it, as it should. This has required a great deal of shelf space, and something had to go to make room for it. (3) The situation everyone is hoping for: Wave three is already planned, but it is postponed until after the third Hobbit movie gets its run.

Looking good! This will certainly grant you a lot of floor space on the inside. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
It would appear that some people are taking the threat of a sudden retirement of TH to heart. It is out of stock for 30 days on the US S&H site. This kind of surprised me, because I figured people would at least wait until April 1 (double points for VIP) to buy it. I have to wait anyway, because that is the next paycheck. Although TH is pictured next to the more recent two buildings, that alone would not guarantee it is going to be around for an indefinite amount of time. My guess is that it will be around for at least a little while longer. -
It can certainly be a chore to try and figure out which is the better deal. Being from the States and sometimes visiting Europe, I do appreciate how the prices in the stores include everything, even tax. I completed the survey and noted that if option A and option B led to basically the same price, I would prefer the one which states the total up front. US sellers do not typically charge Paypal fees, but I noticed that many European stores do. It is my guess that offering Paypal does present an extra cost to them. It would be nice if somehow shipping, fees, and handling charges, if applicable, are somehow included in the cart as you add items so that you would know right then and there how much the order is going to be.

There could still be hope. If the Mirkwood Elves are armored in BOFA and Lego has been given a chance to somehow preview the appearance of them, then an armored variant could emerge. There might be a separate armor piece, or it might simply be printing like they did with Thranduil. Agreed that members of the dwarven company will probably be repeated, although probably not all of them. Since the Erebor set is apparently based on DOS, then it would really limit the set to Bilbo and some dwarves. Laketown, BOFA, and the Galadriel/Witch King set will provide the big chance of seeing new characters.

I also have an official spill for the same reason, except my boys are 5 and 7. However, I was lucky enough to have it happen on the "shelf" next to where the cups are kept. Most of it did not hit the floor.

Well done! You have really captured the scene well. This is really your first MOC?

I think the inclusion of the white Classic Space guy in the exosuit will be the most deciding factor for many when it comes down to whether or not to purchase this.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I am also in the 5% who thinks it is rather important to know which modular will be gone next. I have a limited budget, but would like to acquire every modular I can get a hold of. My first modular purchase was PC in October 2013. At that point, I knew I wanted to buy the others. The choice to get FB next was solely based on the likelihood that it would soon be retired. Thankfully, it was the right choice. I then focused on GE and PS, because they were the oldest ones still available. I bought PR when it came out and left TH as last in priority because I figured I had some time to get it. Many people are just now getting into modulars. Like me, they would like to have them all, but do not have the resources to purchase them all at once. It took some overtime and VIP points to help get some of them. I need TH and am now to understand that it might be on the chopping block. Now, I am trying to hurry up and save for that one before it goes. Knowing which one is next to go would certainly help people make an informed decision when purchasing something. -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This is going to be another one of those moments where I buy it online the instant it comes out (11PM the night of the Lego S&H website update). Judging by the comments, and by the shared popularity with kids and nostalgic AFOL's, this might be a difficult set to find for a while.- 2,626 replies
